Riccarton races
chelseacol and 3 others reacted to Pam Robson for a topic
I'm not a trots fan to the extent that I would go to Addington....but, as a parochial Cantabrian, take some pride in the positive feedback given to that venue - and equally, want to hear good things about Riccarton. It's my home track, the premier club in the South Island, and of course I want it to be the best. I am told I have been derogatory and negative, perhaps that may seem so, but if one can't proffer opinions in the hope that good may come from them, what is the point in caring?4 points -
It’s having supportive owners that make the difference thanks Tim3 points

Execute was unraced at 2. At 3 he raced 7 times for 2 wins. He won his second start over 6f at Te Rapa on the 22/5/71 ridden by Greg Chitty. At 4 he won 5 from 28 starts including two Open Sprints at Ellerslie and Open Sprints at Avondale and Paeroa. At 5 he won 4 from 13 starts including two Hurdle races at Ellerslie ridden by Colin Lewis. At 6 he won 3 from 11 starts. The Campbell Hurdles at Ellerslie, the Awapuni Hurdles and the King Country Steeplechase at Waipa. At 7 he had an amazing season winning 8 from 21 starts. Amongst them a Steeplechase at Rotorua. Open Handicaps at Paeroa and Waipa over 2200 and 2000m respectively. The City Of Auckland Stakes over 2400m at Ellerslie and the Founders Plate 2100m at Te Rapa. John Riordan rode him in those two races. He capped off his 7 year old season by winning the Great Northern Hurdles ridden by Tom Fallon. Not sure if he raced at 8 or beyond.2 points -
I think you will find he speaks for the silent majority of Aussies and Kiwis as displayed by the fake news being wildly wrong with Brexit, Trump and Scomo. Our fake news is no exception....they want you to be outraged but we are not. The outrage is with the leftist scam.2 points

Complacency is the biggest foe in our sport. The thing that really annoys me is that, as a horse racing spectacle, jumps races are far more entertaining. The horses are older so you sort of know them, the distance of the race makes it more engaging and the jumping makes it spectacular. In the UK jumps races hold 8 out of the top 10 betting events. Cheltenham and Aintree hold the highest average on course patronage figures and there are more owners involved in jumps races than flat races. So what's more to market to our leaders? There might be an argument that more horses die or get injured in jumps races but interestingly, more horses die or get injured in training events in flat racing training than jumps training, and that is also a greater per-capita statistic. Flat horses are put under duress more structurally because of the speed in which they train and the training/ racing surfaces. Training a good jumper is an art form and therefore the horses are generally "abused" in a horseman like manner, whereas flat gallopers are often "abused" in a factory like manner. Complacency hasn't looked after the horse. The lack of training facilities hasn't helped the horse. The lack of funding hasn't helped the horse. So complacency is a cancer in our industry. It won't change until the people change.2 points

Riccarton races
Pam Robson reacted to chelseacol for a topic
Totally agree Pam. I love Riccarton - great track (talking dimensions and fairness for all etc ), setting (the views first 2 days GN looking out to the Alps were stunning) and the Members stand is pretty bloody good. But the catering isn't great often - Phar Lap Room seems to be same stuff every meeting with occasional one off dish. Downstairs a bit the same. Balmerino was ok last time I ate there but who has time to sit down for a few hours on raceday.... Wine list ordinary etc etc. It's not a disaster - just could be a bit better I would've thought. Prices pretty reasonable though1 point -
An interesting relatively new stallion at stud in Aust is Hardham. He's by Redoute's Choice from Nureyev's Girl thus a full brother to Kings Rose. K's R has already left a gr winner in Satono Arther by Deep Impact.Hardham won $657150 was a Gr2 winner and seemed to have S Moody and Sir Patrick Hogan among his owners. He doesn't seem to be advertised so may only be used Privately but I've noticed a couple of mares sold in foal to him on these past Digital sales. What a great way to sell they are, full credit to Inglis.1 point

Your dead right JL, sports bar concept with casino works well in USA but I don’t think any government here is going to allow us to go down that road. Some years ago The Met tried to get a licence for some pokies on course but the CCC wouldn’t allow it.1 point -
