Big Boned I am not jealous of Lou at all! In the last few years as an owner I have had far more success than he has for an outlay of well under 5% of what he has spent. I started this thread because I am extremely sorry that Jacob McKay has lost a potential life changing horse from his stable. He deserves better than that in my opinion.

At last count Lou has purchased 19 horses following his big Lotto win. Most despite their hefty price tags have proven to be limited and that is being generous! He gets a potential Group One winner in Aalaalune and shows no loyalty to his trainer whatsoever. Not a good look in my opinion.

Some owners have more money than brains...particularly new ones who have no idea! However that's their prerogative! Aalaalune is arguably the best maiden in the country under Mckay's guidance. She was never gonna win over 1000m fresh up being a back runner. If this was the reason? Poor young Jacob Mckay has done all this work from yearling to 3yo and now won't reap the rewards of his hard work. Amazing results achieved with her as a 2yo because she was always going to be a better 3yo over more ground than 800m - 1400m. Mr Universe has had 16 starts for 10 stakes return...hardly bad results from the young trainer??? I see Rogerson has other Te Keeti Bloodstock transfers too.....Huckleberry Hussie, Global Diamond and...... King Midas ---------> J M Mckay ---------> P Huxetable ---------> G A Rogerson .....it's had as many trainers as it's had starts! Actually It looks like almost all of Lou Te Keeti's bloodstock are now racing out of the Rogerson barn? I hope they love going to the races....because the Nomination/Acceptance fees will be more than the training fees!

  4. I'm messaging Leigh with this prize bet please from last Saturday's team comp win. $ 50 win Otaki Race 7 Horse 1 Hurry Cane surely this will be Hurry Canes' day, after a string of strong placings. I've had a very recent collect from a comp prize bet, so I've had my share, don't want to be greedy, so any collect from Hurry Cane to go back in its entirety to the Comp Prize Fund. Go, Hurry Cane ! Thanks, Leigh.

You are all jealous. This man is most likely a life long punter and / or an enthusiast of racing. He comes into some money and spends it on the sport he enjoys. In return dickheads mock him. What he should do is ask for a return of money under warranty and false advertising. No doubt every horse he paid for was "nice" or a sibling to something or from a new hot sire, blah blah blah. As if anyone on this site can tell a champ from a chump as a yearling.Let him has some fun and appreciate that he loves racing so much he has spent alot of his money on it.

Think Mckay was between a rock and a hard place. Guess he took her there for a good track but taking a back runner to Ruakaka over 1000 was never going to win easily....shocking price BTW. No problem with the horse though...ran the fastest final 600 for the day by some margin. Hope the owners realize this.

Note that the highly promising Oaks type filly Aalaalune has been transferred to Team Rogerson following her Short Neck defeat at Ruakaka on Sunday. Feel extremely sorry for her previous trainer young Jacob McKay. He has done a marvellous job with this highly promising filly. Racing is a tough game.

I don't think so either...as most have stated here "owners prerogative" and good luck to them. Just an observation that young trainer Jacob Mckay has produced the best results by far with only 2 of the 19 odd horses purchased/owned by Te Keeti Bloodstock. Another observation by most racing fans here is.... it seems a harsh move from the owner considering the most success thus far has come from the McKay stable? Why do owners pay trainers to train...when some think they can do it better. The saying..."$50 a day if I'm training it.... $100 a day if you are training it" ...springs to mind ?

So everyone is jealous , ok . He's burning through his own cash and hopefully having fun doing it. Fact is there are a few slow horses there , if he's been a punter all his life he should know there are slow ones and accept it . I think taking those horses off young trainer who has done ok is rough , but his money his rules .

WOW! ....I see the writing was probably on the wall early on with this owner's musical chairs tendencies. King Midas as a yearling presumably under Mckay's care was broken in, educated before trailing twice as a 2yo winning both!..... but was still removed and transferred to the stable of Peter Huxtable (horse since transferred again) Who here would do that?... if you had a 2yo win two trials with particular trainer! Strange ? Anyway owners prerogative and good luck to the horses third trainers Team Rogerson! I'm sure Rogie would have quadrupled its career starts before it is moved to the 4th and next stable!

    woman drivers

I have a newspaper article dated February 1979 with a picture of 10 woman drivers who took part in a ladies race at Cambridge S Roberts who was licenced to drive at a tote meeting in Oz, Julie Cave (Fraser), Sally Fenning, Diane Cole, Susan Town (McKendry) Ann Cooney, Helen Brice, Vi Mercep, B Lee, Susan Gee (Branch). Julie won it with Yarver Ann 2nd with Crafty Beau and myself 3rd Effie Hanover. As I recall at that point we were only licenced to drive at trials and non tote meeting. The Eye Lure Derby was run at the Park. Belinda Holmes was another about that time

  17. Kenedna grew a leg in Qld and won 2 good races. I doubt she can win Sat but it is The old Liston and there’s often upsets. Hartnell is probably the danger for MJ. He’s working well and can run fresh. Outside Hartnell, the Hayes horses often perform well fresh. I love these races with a hot fave. I’ll be anchoring her to run second in a F4, looking for value in a unlikely upset.

Please Note: Most here would not begrudge any success that comes Te Keeti Bloodstocks way. With that kind of investment in our industry it is certainly deserved! I just don't think moving stables frequently is the recipe?.... particularly ones getting good results? Another saying..."THAT'S RACING"

I suppose with all this climate change goings on putting a couple suitcases of 100 buck notes on a fire burning them and toasting marshmallows with kids in back yard not allowed ,this appears a carbon neutral way of burning cash whilst eating un cooked marshmallows. Hope he gets a decent winner and enjoys the ride .He's giving it a good go so imho deserves some success. He's more chance of winning lotto again than a Cox Plate though. A half bro to that Huckeberry horse still hasnt finished in the hacks race at GN meeting , that horse looks expensive .

What is your udr postie.mine is bad but I think could be better than u And definitely I'm picking worse than Leo's as a jockey. Couch experts are better than tiger woods better than the all blacks better than the warriors better than m guptill.trouble is a lot need a hand to get from the couch to the buffet. At least Leo and I have been in the cauldron had bad injuries so we understand how hard it is to ride drive.now u let us see your c.v to gain some respect.if you have one I'm happy to give u the respect. u will deserve.

  28. I think that MJ is right up there at the moment and it’s going to take an exceptional one to beat her. With TAS at Stud I can’t think of one at the moment. However, a friend of mine has a goodie called Zoustyle, trained by Tony Gollan. Watch for him to possibly dominate sprint races. Won a trial this week by 9 lengths and Jock was just sitting as still as a church mouse on it.

indeed ...so what's the rush to race her right now ...sell her for a small fortune? A classy back runner by Reliable Man, definite Classics / FOTY and Oaks prospect here and Oz ...why race her in EARLY AUGUST??? Maybe thats where the 'lune' comes from ...

imo they couldn't have picked a worse training outfit to transfer her to ...in retrospect the connections would have been better to have kept mum about their lofty ambitions and just let the horse do the talking. She may still be a Grp 1 contender and be the best 3yo filly in the country, but it's not clever to talk her up when the season has just begun, tracks are unpredictable as is the weather, and the horse has a lot of growing up to do. She is one of the few by Reliable Man to be Grp placed at 2yrs, so time is on her side..cant understand the rush myself...but i reckon Mr Rogie will waste no time racing her all over the shop and the horse will probably be buggered by the autumn (a la Contessa Vanessa, who I see is back in training after failing to sell at the GC sales). Just saying.

    Babies death

If we are to believe "Hands off our Tamariki" protesters; these parents and their five remaining children will be getting support from their whanau, hapu and Iwi. There will be no need for any intervention from a state agency such as Oranga Tamariki. Why this whanau, hapu and Iwi support wasn't occurring prior to the baby's death, I wouldn't know.

    Tab verification

Gruff I said on a previous post, back in the 70's there used to be a middle bar that us dodgy lot would meet. There was always 30 of us in there on race day.Out of the 30 or so that were there including the barmen 28 had convictions ,i don't know about the barmen but they looked dodgy.I can only imagine the reply the TAB staff would have got asking the question were did you get the money from? Loved those days, cheers BH

    New Season

What I hope for is that dog racing in the North survives this season...with very few newcomers around and others taking on tier 2 clapped out cast off's I feel its in dire straights...tip to all newcomers (and maybe some not so).... Another trainer will not give you a dog worth it's weight in dog poo if they thought it was capable of earning money, think about it.... Why would they? Yes there is the odd exception ie: not quite good enough for quality Sth island low grade middle distance racing but there's no excuse for low grade or near retirement age sprinters from the CD! Taking these dogs will not only mentally demoralise you and send you broke but also put you off the game in a big hurry. If a young comer has no other option for racing stock I suggest you sign an agreement with these "people" that they take their dogs away from your kennels if they get injured or upon retirement, especially so if the dog has not paid its way whilst in your care.

  44. Well done to Right First Time, Wrinkles and Jack on their deserved success yesterday. No thanks to me my team were amongst the 'also rans'. Couldn't pick my nose at present, I'd poke myself in the eye. Well done to Memphis and Right First Time on a couple of great individual efforts too. Form is temporary, class is permanent (or so my old running coach used to say). And Wrinkles said it all with his comments to maria and Scooby above. Class acts both.

  49. how this could happen. As has been well documented the relic that is called a new betting platform (word on the street is it might be new but the software which the NZRB don't actually own is in fact 20 years old) cost around $50 million to a struggling industry with bank loans already around $25 million. Pre the relic platform the NZRB's own developed system 'Jetbet' handled tote and fixed odds betting but surprise well to me anyway to wake up and realise that this new and wonderful betting platform can't handle or perform tote betting. So now you have two systems to service, maintain and employ separate companies and staff for your wagering requirements. So now the Industry can add to that $50,000,000 relic's cost and $17,000,000 a year to service and maintain all the costs to run, maintain and service Jetbet to deliver tote betting returns to a struggling industry. When Jetbet came on the scene developed by the TAB 30 plus years ago it delivered tote and fixed odds betting and was that good wagering companies came from around the world to view its operations as it was a revelation in the wagering world. No surprise to see that it happened in in little old NZ as they were the first to in the world to create an actual automated tote system. Rather than put the NZRB's faith in their computer experts they instead source a betting platform which only does half the job of the old system. %$#^ me how did it happen? Oh that's right nil and clueless management unaware that they actually could have saved millions and produced in house a better all in one betting platform than what they already had. Can someone please send me a link where the CEO informed the Industry that although they would have a new betting Platform they would operate now with not one but two betting platforms one for tote and one for fixed odds betting. Strangely enough I can't find any reference to this fact. Oh well at least the old and wise saying is two works better than one ha ha. Oh good to see a GM and the GM and manager who sold the relic to a clueless CEO are off and gone to Ireland on behalf of a struggling Industry to visit the Company who sold them the lemon of a relic.
