  1. We all know how bad stakes are in NZ , they have been poor for many many years so nothing new there , owners and trainers know what to expect but we still have plenty of horses going around . I see Rachael Frost picked up a $136,000 race at Caulfield yesterday , the winners cut must be around $75K , well done . We all have choices , life is self inflicted .

Certainly can't be easy to make a living training in nz, and many must be tempted to make the shift, having an interest in a horse more a passion for me, whether winning a 10k maiden or a 35k open handicap, I didn't go into it make a dollar, so any win along the way is a bonus, but the thrill of having one at the races a buzz for me.

  5. If you’ve got a handy horse, send it to Matty Dunn at Murwillumbah, just south of Tweed Heads. Top country trainer who has NSW stakes available from Grafton, Ballina, Coffs Harbour etc, all within a short float trip and big NSW prizemoney.

Tomorrow the time honoured Parliamentary Handicap is to be run at Trentham for a stake of $40,000. Ten years ago in 2009 the stake was $45,000. It was won by the aptly named Strapped For Cash. The wheel is still turning but the hamster is dead.

For what it’s worth, I thought the “eleventh hour” Captaincy of Williamson was very poor. Firstly, for the Golden Over, he chose a bowler who was his worst bowler all day and it proved so as he leaked all those runs in his last two overs of the match and golden over. Secondly, his choice of his worst performing batsman (Guptill) all tournament to front in the Golden Over was imho a huge mistake. And it proved to be so. Poor Captaincy IMHO. Having watched the entire match from start to finish, it was disappointing to go to bed for a couple of hours sleep after watching such a riveting match. Why wasn’t the “Bat of God” hit declared a “Dead Ball”?

  9. There was also a women's rugby comp held between the top world teams. It was shown on Sky and reminded me of Grass Roots Rugby with only a few spectators and playing on crap fields.

Dexter wins a $126,500 stakes race on Millies Possesion who is 7 for 7. 3yo filly trotter. Slow half in 57 and change and he was 4th in single file and moved up to sit outside leader and wore it down near finish. This is a really nice filly. Jim Campbell trains her. He also won the big Trot tonight with Crystal Fashion who beat the champion filly Atlanta. Jim Campbell is John Campbell's brother

  13. Rusty you're quite correct. Blame the f,,,wits in Internal Affairs & politicians for creating this dinosaur the AML Act. It's Law now whether we like it or not. Don't delay putting your bets on when on course...if someone ahead of you is betting $1k the race will surely start before anyone else gets a bet on. I'm in commercial property management & have my Real Estate Licence. Since 1 January 2019 before listing any vacant commercial space with any Real estate agents all Bldg Owners must supply their passport & evidence that they live where they live. Further more, if they multi list with several different commercial agencies as most do to cover the market they have to replicate this information each time. Why, because its Law. What's achieved. Absolutely nothing except more time lost by owners and agents. Particularly, as only one tenant will lease the space anyway that in fact the owner could do directly without the agencies help. Why does the process start at that point when no money changes hands. The Int Affairs staff and REA/Institute national body have worked this process out together & produced a 49 page RE Guidelines FFS that all RE agencies in the country are grappling with. The Act comes with the usual threats of fines etc The f...wits have forgotten what they're trying to do, reduce money laundering.

I am quite surprised that the likes of Pike, Marsh etc haven’t made the move. It can get to be too late if you don’t do it at a young stage. Paul Shailer is doing great running Waller’s Qld Stable. Bussutin/Young are in a good spot building their credentials, Bjorn Baker is now well established. Mike Maroney, John Sargent are two others - albeit a little older. The tick is ticking on Marsh, Pike and co. Winning $1m in stakes in NZ won’t make them much with 10% cut. I would set up in one of the rural training precincts if there are boxes available. In NSW or Victoria. Ballarat, Cranbourne, Pakenham etc or in NSW country. Availability may be a problem. A Syndicate I am in, we won a maiden at Ipswich on Friday at our 3rd start, first up from a spell after she finished 5th at her first two starts. We got $11,600 prizemoney, plus we get a QTIS bonus of $8000, making a total of $19600. Not bad for a Friday meeting and the way she won there’s more to come! ( I should have been a poet ). My point is, you can leave the move too late and miss the bus. Call it timing - just ask Chris Waller! Thanks to Winx, his 10% is about $4m and counting this season!

I agree, I actually like her as a rider, and have been impressed with her improvement, and if she can ride a winner for you, she's the best around, and as I said before she takes a great photo with a winner, with that beaming smile, good on her, I hope she keeps kicking them home.

That didn't come across very well....Tanya has ridden a winner for me, and I have always wished her well...but she has had difficulty settling in to the regime of a 'training' stable environment. Her last place of employment gave her every opportunity, put her on the stable's best, but she struggled with the discipline required and left. This 'situation' that was engineered to allow her to remain in the industry [ otherwise, she was going to be lost, a stipe told me ] has certainly worked well for her but she is lacking quality tuition and is strong-minded enough to be a challenge in that respect.

  18. reminds me of our younger days - used to send Rolly in to the bottle store to get a dozen when we were under age - always got kicked out because he asked for a dozen 'brown lions' !

  19. Winston Peters went to great lengths to institute the Gold Card. He also happens to be the Racing Minister. As an insult to Winston Peters the TAB tells all that the Gold Card is no good for ID purposes.

  20. At our local race course there used to be a middle bar for all us dodgy sorts. There were 30 of us who were always in there on race day ,Out of the 30 which included the barmen 28 had convictions I dont know about the barmen but they looked dodgy.I can only imagine the reply the TAB staff would have got asking that question.Loved those days.
