  1. All is confirmed, registration went through today, High Sparrow locked in, a lady who has always given me the time of the day at Counties RC has also copped 5% for being a good person. I love people that are involved in Racing administration that get sweet FA out of it, the big cheese swoop on the profits and leave the day to day running of the industry to these people and they get no recognition. Not talking about individual club admin, the fairs at Well bug me > Hopefully our boy does us some justice team, we will head to the races shortly, and if he doesn’t come up with the goods, we will go again !

  2. I suspect dissolution of Clubs assets is a priority, they won't save themselves a single cent by going about closing tracks(not to mention the cans of worms that will be opened). Well at least the ones they have said they are prioritising to close. I've not heard a single sensible argument for closing tracks in this country, is there one? They need to get getting punters punting again as the main priority I'd have thought.

  3. Thanks HS You must remember it is not the person who invented the wheel that was smart, but the person who invented the other three. We could have a case against him for aged discrimination.Being one of the old soldiers when we poke our heads over the trenches there is always someone there to shoot at us .So p####s like Allen who is about our age has got the cheek to take a shot at us,at least we left our employments or businesses in a far better place and proud of what we did, which is more than he can say,Cheers

John Allen is a muppet ,Because his web site is such an un user friendly site .He blames us old soldiers because its a dog to navigate .I consider myself pretty good on a laptop and by the look of the rest of you cafaians [think thats a word] Im sure you are to.I bet he would struggle to log in.He is reminding me of George Costanza in Seinfeld when he worked for the Yankees, they sacked him but every day he turned up for work again . Just remember Allen its not us old soldiers to blame but your crap web site .And were the f###did you find a word like OUTRIGHTS what happened to ODDS so simple.Cheers

  6. Snap Cubemeister. My late Dad was a Sapper in 6th Field Company (engineers) during WW11. He spent 4 years and 3 months as a POW. A really fit 10 stone 7 pound top cyclist when he went away on the first troop ship out of Wellington (had been married just three days) and Mum never saw him again for five years. He was repatriated by The Russians and when he got home he was 7 stone 10 pounds. An Army can't do without the grunts like the Sappers - so well done mate on a good contribution. .

  7. A little one sided in your assessment Lights Out. You have failed to factor in that they will no longer be racing at Waimate. When those savings start to flow through to the industry as a whole everything will start to come right.

The Cubemeister once rose in fact to the rank of “Sapper” in the NZ Territorial Army but as that is the lowest rank available in the Engineering Corp it wasn’t much of a glorious military career...Anywhoo...that is a thread for another time... 13. Great comments and research on here people from Lights Out's opening stanza to Boss Hogg above my post. I have enjoyed reading them. They are right on the money. Some fine research (Lights Out) to remind us of what an unmitigated disaster the new website has been since the day it went 'live' (I use the word "live" in its loosest sense you understand). The feature film should be coming out soon: "Let's Re-Invent The Wheel And Make It Square This Time" (With the great comedian John Allen in a starring role). I wonder what the title of the other film would be if it were a double feature? Any suggestions?

  16. From NZRB 2018 - 2020 Statement of Intent published 2nd August 2017 - The investment costs relating to the Fixed Odds Betting platform (FOB) initiative are expected to be $9.6 million in project expenses and $20.0 million in capital expenditure ( I make that $29.6 million advised to the Industry) https://www.rita.org.nz/sites/default/files/documents/NZRB Statement of Intent 2018-2020 Final.pdf April 2017 .John Allen re the Betting Platform A final decision on our partner has yet to be made, but will be within a month. We would expect an investment of $25 million to be made over a period of years. https://loveracing.nz/News/21415/Prize-money-injection-for-New-Zealand-racing.aspx 7th Feb 2019 John Allen The fixed odds betting platform has been a significant advance for the industry. In the end, the implementation from the business case to launch took about 18 months and the total cost was $40.8m. This is marginally more than the $38 million the NZRB Board initially approved in May 2017. https://dochub.com/emily-laws0b3093e7/MByge7/industry-update-february-1-pdf ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John please explain how the NZRB under your leadership you could advise in August 2017 that the new betting platform would cost $29.6 million but then in Feb 2019 you stated to the Industry that the amount approved in May 2017 was $38 million. I don't know if finances is a weak point with you but the sums verse the dates don't add up. It would seem you have plucked the $38 million out of the sky to justify the huge over runs to $40 million plus and rising. Very poor also to fail to mention the $17 million a year to be paid for operating and maintenance cost to Open Bet /Paddy Power until after the launch. From the Statement of Intent We are budgeting for the new platform to deliver an additional $11.6 million of net profit in the 2018/19 financial year. $11.6 million extra income doesn't go into $17 million expenses too well does it - $5.2 million deficit.Any wonder why the Industry is #@$#ed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ June 2019 - Industry Update from John Allen . The outgoing Board are leaving the organisation on a strong footing, equipped to be able to deliver increased returns to the industry on the back of a competitive betting platform, solid technology and world leading presentation of racing content betting platform. . Finally, we are currently working through our Statement of Intent, which outlines the strategic direction for the organization over a three-year period and includes a discussion of the outcomes being sought by the main priorities for the three years ahead (your Statement of Intent going by the above is a complete number plucking excercise) And finally please explain why the NZRB galloping winners don't have the barrier draws listed against the placed runners, important early info when tracks are at 11 like today. Yes one can scroll back to the race fields to find the info but you advised that the site would be quicker for the customer. Strangely enough you stated the web site was based on the Sportsbet site but guess what they have the barrier draws in their results on NZ races. $#%^ me who designed and formatted this piece of crap. Its not hard to get it right but if your clueless guess its near impossible. Whoever sold this lemon the Board and whoever was in charge of it should have been sacked. Pay for itself in 3 years he said %^$% me

  17. ENTRY THREAD : WINTER TRANS-TASMAN RACING TIPPING TRIO COMP SATURDAY 6 JULY : ALL WELCOME ! We will be trio-ripping through Te Rapa, Royal Randwick and Morphettville! As you post your selections I will add you to a trio and your team of three will compete against others on Saturday .. Please read the rules and note that the comp closes at 12.32pm on Saturday and scratching replacements can be posted up until 12.45pm. After that only late scratchings will revert to the TAB sub Please read the Rules: 1. Post two selections for each race on the Schedule. You can post the number and the name but I will only take note of the number. If the number of the horse and name of the horse are different, I will go with the number. Also please note .. If you don't post two selections per race then I will disallow your entry unless you correct your entry before 12.32pm. 2. You will be awarded 5 points for each winning selection. There are no points for finishing second or third. 3. You will be awarded an additional 10 points if your two selections in the race finish first and second (ie. get the Quinella). 4. You have two Best Bets to use. You can use a Best Bet on any race but you cannot use your two BBs on the same race. If you use a Best Bet, any points earned will be doubled. For example if you win and use a BB you get 10 points or if you win and get the Quinella, you can earn 30 points. 5. You can post selections up until 12.32pm, 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of the first comp race. 6. NOTE: You can post scratching replacements up until 12.45pm. I will also allow other members of that trio to post scratching replacements for another trio member between 12.32pm and 12.45pm. The trio member's replacements once posted, will stand. If no-one posts replacements then the selections stand as they are. After 12.45pm no scratching replacements are allowed and only late scratchings will revert to the TAB sub. 7. The winning team will be the trio with the most combined points at the end of the schedule of races. If there is a draw on points at the end of the day, it will be a countback on winners of all three in the team, then quinellas, then BB winners. If still the same then you share the accolades 8. A spare set of selections will be posted at 11.30pm should they be needed to make up a threesome. 9. Have fun PRIZES $210.00 split 3 ways $70.00 W/P for each team member. 31. A. It's worth $200k. B. It is only over a an hour and half period. C. You could win the total pool with only a small percentage ticket. eg a 5% ticket. Giving the smaller punter a chance for a small outlay.

    Scratchings

Anybody know why the NZ TAB just changes the jockey name to Doubtful, but leaves the horse in the fixed odds market when horses are scratched from Australian races? Some horses still in their markets were scratched from Flemington over eight hours ago. When they finally take Organza out from Race 1 tomorrow morning it will result in a near 50% deduction. They really are good at pushing punters to look elsewhere for a bet.
    1 point
  33. I don’t think the market was ready for it 20 years ago and this time, it’s returned with a different focus and a new breed of punter - the ones that were between 2yo - 15yo some 20 years ago. Also, there were no corporates and Lotto was not as big. It’s a new ball game and the Industry gets 100% of the direct benefits.

    Gout

Memphis Yeah pain is unbelievable I got gout when I was about 30 went to doctor he said you have a broken foot and strapped it up .Went to pub for medication to help ease pain. Our barber came in for a beer and diagnosed me with goutgave me some of his tablets 2 days later I was back to normal. Went back to doctor told him Barber said I have gout and I"m a lot better after taking his medication.Doctor suggested I should go to barber for all my problems he was pretty snarky. After getting every joint pain possible in the next few years the docter gave me these tablets which I took for 12 months .Touch wood I have never had gout since. You do have to watch your diet no pork, red wine [found that one out after a 3 day bender],never again.some sea food mussels not good .IBU profen is only a short term help you need good stiff only a doc can give you.Otherwise just keep drinking and eat what you want its more fun.cheers

  41. I have seen plenty recover from heart attacks but guess what they don't last long. #$%# me he is going to say as much crap as he can to extend his lifeline we have seen it time and time again. Last week he said " The outgoing Board are leaving the organisation on a strong footing". Hello that one statement throws all his previous quotes in the bin where they belong. Biggest problem ha ha age of the site user $%#^ me you couldn't make that up. How about the biggest problem was the age of the CEO and Board Chairperson who approved it. If the age was the problem how the hell did they use the earlier platform but accordingly to you they struggle with this one. Hello John Allen said the new platform would be more user friendly,so your saying just another spin story? The Board goes first, then the CEO, then the GM's then there is a reduction in staff that's what happens in the real world where we live not in a Grimms Brother fairy tale. The NZRB has no money they owe an o/d of $25 million due for repayment next year, sold all their assets, have a crap betting platform that cost millions in overruns and isn't returning the dollars promised and is actually proving to be a liability when you take into account the annual cost to maintain and run it so its a good thing your not connected to the Industry when you say it doesn't matter if it takes 10 years or more as long as it pays for itself. That's the clueless mentality that has put the Industry into the position we see it in today. Take all the above into account no its not automatic re staff losing their jobs its blatantly obvious. Through possible outsourcing which = job losses. And guess what John Allen has a cheek giving his employees false hope, he won't have any say in what is going to happen RITA are there because he needed someone to hold his hand. " The outgoing Board are leaving the organisation on a strong footing" ha ha you poor delusional soul if you want to believe what John Allen says.If you do then you and John Allen have something in common your both clueless.

  43. Agree wholeheartedly. To be fair to Ashburton, I was referring to the horse facilities which are awful. The stand is actually quite acceptable. The arrogance of our local administration is astounding with their assumption that Timaru stakeholders would meekly relocate to Ashburton when the track closures were implemented. That of course was dependant upon the allweather track being installed at Riccarton, which was supposed to uptake racing from the redundant courses. That looks less likely now. My concern now ( one of the many) is that NZTR will carry on implementing track closures without the penny dropping that the remaining tracks cannot take any more racing. To add to your thoughts, the facilities at Timaru, although dated, are excellent for horses and spectators alike and the track usually very fair.

  45. I read where the ANZ is concerned over Mrs Folaus support for her husband. Seems odd that the ANZ have suddenly developed ethics. Were they not the bank that was found guilty of not advising farmers of the pitfalls of''swap rates''. Were they not the bank given a kick in the bum from the RBNZ recently. Don't they take about a billion each year in profits out of nz every year. Didn't they buy a house for 10 million and sell it to Hisco's wife for 6 million. A bank with ethics,f..k me what next.

  48. The whole thing has created a mountain out of a molehill. His original post included most people in life but one particular group jumped up and down led by the CEO of Qantas who wanted him sacked. From that we now have this situation and it will only get bigger and could well be played out for years.
