  1. For fooks sake Leo, just became the “Nikki’s of this world hang around the Viaduct, it doesn’t mean that the real people of the rest of NZ don’t know what they are talking about. Again for fooks sake, your mob had 9 years to fook everything up, and what a bloody good job they did. Lets see who gets more likes, your post above or mine!

  2. I will put my hand up as a lifelong National voter and someone who dislikes Winston for his usually self serving hypocrisy. He has done more for racing in a year than Nationals Guy and Bennett did over a decade. I think based on recent events he should be given the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise.

I cant see any positive advantage at all , You have to wonder how many Passionate Club Members, supporters, committee people , locals etc. that have some sort of ownership in racehorses and will feel aggrieved about this situation and finish their association with NZ Racing? The Messarra Report : I'm not exactly comfortably taking business advice from an Australian whose own business in Aus. is based around selling his produce to the same clients NZers are selling to and need to sell to to survive , Surely We are competing for the same market! To Me that like DOMINO'S PIZZA having PIZZA HUT as their business Mentors or consultants!

The only punt for the club is the weather. Were it gallops it would have been canned. I had a work day interrupted so watched the whole thing from my lounge Bloody good coverage, bloody good racing, bloody good that there was a roughy placed in every race. I have no problem with any of the commentators. You have to keep the banter going and if you dont agree with their assessment then follow your own logic. That's what punting is all about although I never had a bet all day. Maybe that's why I enjoyed it. Got a share in something lining up tomorrow so saving it for that.

Who cares about race times? You can't have a bet on what time they go.

    Bounding's half brother

Bounding' s half brother by Galileo now favorite for Guineas and Epsom Derby after winning Futurity at The Curragh overnight. Called Anthony Van Dyck he is by Galileo. Coolmore mixing that Galileo blood with Aussie blood again like Highland Reel and Idaho. Anthony Van Dyck was according to Wiki a Flemish Baroque Artist, bit over my head all that but do like those names for racehorses as I learn a bit from it.

  7. It basically gives you a free throw at the stumps up to $30.00 especially when smaller fields get placed in the first couple of races at meetings ie Auckland the last two weeks, Trentham last week, Waikato the week before etc.

Good horses and some very good drivers showing a lot of talent, still like the mile racing though, they are race times we like to see

Seems like it was a good day for the club despite the weather, its a great concept that makes the Gallop fraternity jealous. Good to see the best horses in the country win most of the races...congrats all concerned.

  13. Luckily for Queensland Racing the Government there don't agree with your thoughts. I wouldn't call the Industry total bludgers with the employment and taxes it pays but it should have sorted out some major problems within itself eg NZRB management and better business plans before going cap in hand to the Government wanting hand outs. The 3 Racing Codes knew the problems and should have gone to the Board and demanded they sack senior management rather than leave it to RITA to carry out. They have displayed weakness and have let their codes down big time. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/oct/26/queensland-government-caves-in-to-racing-industry-on-eve-of-strike Good result for Queensland but how good was it for them when Russ Hinz was Racing Minister. I admit you wouldn't have bought a second hand car from him but you can't disagree he did look after the Racing Industry. https://justracing.com.au/2013/04/04/201727russ-hinze-gone-but-not-forgotten/

And it's not really as if Waimate has been told: "shift to Oamaru or Timaru and you will experience fantastic facilities and attract much bigger crowds".

The usual argument with track closure is save some money and the club can use resources at another track in another town. Closing a track isn’t closing a club, but the will to continue to volunteer for your local club must wane when the racing is many kms up the road.

None that I can see, and a real negative in that racing is removed from the community concerned.

  17. Pretty little feedback on here from the meetings so far. I attended the one at Te Rapa today, not a big turnout but then again I don't believe they were well advertised. However I am sure that John Allen was pleased to get away to catch a flight back to Wellington as he did get a drilling from a few with very little positivity towards the board from those who did attend. The new betting platform was slated with Berri Schroeder stating that we have the worst betting tab site in the world and that was after spending $40+ million on it. Others stating there is no meaningful form and a distinct lack of information for punters. The demise of The Informant was topical and Dennis Ryan was scathing of the NZRB over this matter particularly on the aspect of the provision of the fields data etc. Gary Hennessy told John that he is a slow learner and asked him to resign. The message from the floor was that the TAB platform needed significant improvement and that the Board has focused too much on delivering on a sports platform (with lesser return to the industry) to the detriment of the actual racing and that racing desperately needs more mainstream media content for the public. A good point made at the end of the meeting was that there was no one taking any notes from the Board on what had been said and recommendations raised during the meeting. ie do they go in one ear and out the other? To be fair, with what is currently going on re the legislation process underway through the parliament which is well documented and with RITA coming into full action 1 July I couldn't see any real justification for this current round of meetings across the country (at a cost) at this point in time.

As a “bean counter” by profession I would really be interested in what $ savings the racing industry will achieve by closing courses that are largely run by enthusiastic locals. I’m sure the industry can come up with other benefits of rationalising tracks, eg health and animal welfare, but what cost will be avoided by this action? in Australia they seem to have an operational track in nearly every town, sure they run non-tab racemeetings, but they keep the tracks going. Such as Tabulam, in NSW, one meeting per year as I understand it.. Rough as guts but cleaned up b6 the locals for their annual go. I know there has been plenty of discussion on this part of the Messara recommendations, but what is the real financial or operational benefit of rubbing these tracks and people out?

  19. 1. Fair enough but there are just countless examples of that insurance policy not doing its job and the opposite occurring. Zacinto and Per Incanto not sure if they had particularly high TF ratings but are doing a pretty good job locally. 2. Do you think the Deep Impact line will be competitive 2yos in Aus.? By this I mean competitive in Melbourne and Sydney before the end of April? I just see the Aus 2yo as a completely different type to that racing anywhere else including what we produce here locally.

  20. Embellish best value for mine, bloodlines that are proven to work in NZ, do the Timeform ratings matter that much when selecting a mating? Will be interesting to see how Deep Impact works down under looks to be a sireline you need to wait for?

Seriously !!! .. you can tell by the lack of enthusiasm on this thread how exciting it was. Honesty and respect for harness racing would be at an all time low.
