  1. Sadly, a subject that is of interest to only a small minority. I wonder if the SI trainers and owners ever complain about the incompetence inherent in SI Racing. Take today at Wingatui for instance. 20 balloted horses and probably another 15-20 eliminated. Not a single balloted horse got a start. Only one horse that was in a field scratched. All the ballots and eliminated horses in rating 65 and maiden races. In contrast, not a single ballot at Trentham. And four open races at Ellerslie and Trentham this weekend with 6, 11, 6 and 7 starters. This is surely a sign that the structure of racing in the South is all wrong. The pattern of feature race-meetings and industry days isn't appropriate to the South. It only works if there is a choice of one of each, each week. Why run only 8 races at Wingatui when there are clearly enough horses to run 10 races? The only 2yo race in the SI this month was a listed race at Riccarton on the 4th. And yet there are dozens of 2yos going around at the trials. Why would anyone race a 2yo in the South? How do trainers organise syndicates to race horses when new "investors" want a quick return and yet there are few opportunities for 2yos. And very few opportunities for 3yos at this time of year, at a time when 3yos are winning maiden races all over and owners would aspire to try their budding champs against their own age group. It is easy for everyone to focus on the waste involved in a $50m computer system, but what about the wasted opportunities through not investing more effort and common sense into running SI Racing. I sadly can't see a committee of "change" experts suddenly turning all of this around. I think more could be achieved by one person with a vision and a passion for the game..

  2. Iraklis, you're letting your freakish levels of exuberance cloud your comprehension. The issue is with the the treatment itself - not anyone using it. There is no hate. There is no wrong doing. There is nothing being alluded to or alleged. The rules permit the treatment ... for now. This treatment is a disaster for the industry. But who can blame the opportunists for jumping on it. What it's doing is driving the wedge between the elite stables and the average stables even wider, which will force more people from the game. Effectively what it's doing is saying to the already struggling owners and trainers that "you need to folk out another grand for this or fall even further off the pace". The question marks over ACS use are obvious to any fair minded person who steps back and takes an unbiased look at the "before and after treatment" performances.

  3. In fairness the trainer in question has been around the dog racing circuit for a very long time and has also overcome injuries that many may not of recovered from as well as she has. Maybe handlers/trainers that are more capable and physically fit could offer to help, my guess would be that she doesn’t want to ask for help. Some younger newcomers could benefit from her knowledge might I add. It’s a tad harsh crucifying someone whose obviously still got a passion for the sport but physically struggles with the odd over eager dog. I’ve seen a few battle scars, ie black eyes on trainers far stronger than she is as a result of temperamental hounds. Keep doing what you love and training winners Shirley.

    Damn TAB app.

There are just so many aspects of this site that shows little if any thought or care the NZRB have for the racing punter .... many are major as discussed i.e. lagging, info inconsistency, compatibility issues, App issues, upfront and re-occurring costs associated etc etc... this is before you even get into the upfront build cost and how we have ended up here.... but like a lot of things in life, for me it is also the little things that sometimes count , and when these little things are missing... many and most times the reason these are missing is the supplier simply do not care and or have passion for what they are doing.... which kind of sums up a large reason why we as an industry are in our current position.... One of the little things for me is the info displayed on the race itself when either looking at tab platform of extended form.... 2 very interesting and important aspects for me around a race are its grade.... G1, 2, 3 listed etc and also what purse of the race is...... both these points help me establish seriousness of entrants from top to bottom along with caliber of entrants and just all and all gives me a full picture of the race prior to engaging in form, barrier, ground etc.... but these are deemed unimportant to list.... is this because of the share embarrassment of seeing the grade of race and purse in comparison to our Australian cobbers ... good example ..... 2YO 1400m lsited race for 50K @ Ellerslie, Listed WFO 2800 Flemington 400k... or is it as i said they really just dont care?? Seems Oz tab can easily list... Its the little things, as my punting may be a drip from a tap leaving the TAB as a customer.... a dripping tab still fills a cup and a leaking ship will eventually sink...

So how do you think it'll play Iraklis? Just MHO but The Belle would have to try and lead. Buzinga wont, Bubbled Up to go hard with her early and allow Princess Tiffany either the 1x1 or drop into the trail from where she can bomb The Belle. Either way should be a good one. The draws level things out a bit but remember it's 1980, not a mile.

Condor its not that its the little things that show up most on the website but the magnitude of them as you point out. Incidentally I had an association with a horse called Condor many moons ago. Nice name. Every day I am discovering new anomalies that just don't make sense. Overall my biggest gripe is the disappearance of the controls and alerts which have cost me dearly. So much so I have gone to different providers. Even if we ignore the purchasing of the system then the launch in January should have sent those authorizing it packing. A major business principle is "never launch a half ready system". Many faults with the system are so basic that one must wonder if there has been an intentional effort to damage racing. AS others have experienced there seems a devious effort by management to make the staff portray the system as a success. Needs to be a full investigation into all aspects of the commissioning of this abomination.

    Laura Cheshire

I felt a tad sorry for the poor beggar when I watched the video Baz posted but I think full credit to Laura for the way she handled a potentially awkward conversation with class. She was honest and went to the point of being self-deprecating in order not to crush the poor beggar completely and I think she let him down as gently as possible given the circumstances. Tough as teak as a jockey but obviously kind-hearted too and as a top jockey once told me "Be kind to horses and they'll be kind to you too." I hope plenty of horses are kind to Laura in her comeback.

  17. I don't see anything wrong with Jack expressing his opinion. He seems to think it can be used as a performance enhancer, and obviously many do otherwise why would one vet have referred to trainers using the treatment pre race, and the other vet saying it can improve lung performance. Of course that was just one part of the stated uses and needed to be taken in context.. Anyway, the reason the box seat did the segment was so people could better understand its benefits. Its not as if the debate was going to end overnight after the show. I agree lee27074 has probably answered as much as he can,and he has said to visit the lab as he has nothing to hide. The problem with that statement is I don't think anyone thinks he is hiding anything, they just have different takes on his product. I haven't seen any hateful comments on this thread,so I don't think it fair to describe jacks or anyone else's comments as such. That's my take on views previously expressed.

  20. Just spoken to one of the owners, Jerry is on the unruly because of the trainer request. They have tried in the past putting him back in the draw but he was disrupting the field, wouldn't it be great if a few other trainers did the same.

  21. I suggest everyone give up taking Jack on , clearly a complete waste of time given his fixation bordering on obsession with the topic. No one will be able to answer his rhetorical questions so why bother especially you Lee as he has had you in his sites since day one of this thread. He is not brave enough to say but its pretty clear he thinks there is something majorly wrong with the treatment Greg

  22. ACS is only restricted in NZ - Really? So there are no restrictions as to how and when the treatment can be used in Australia, USA, Europe or Scandinavia? You may not have "personally treated" any Manawatu runners but you'd have to be happy with 8/14! It speaks volumes for ACS's "ability to skew the playing field"! You seem to have a fixation on the words "hate" and "positive swabs". This thread is about questioning the use of the ACS treatment in general. To the best of my knowledge you are the only participant with a side interest in hatred and positive swabs.
