  1. You always have to think of the scorer when having a comp.Keeping it fairly simple for them is a big thing.Chestnut does an amazing job on scoring. The pairs comp is a great idea.

  3. Some people like points comps and some like dividends comps. At the end of the day it comes down to luck on the day.As long as it’s all good fun it doesn’t worry us which ones are done. The two picks per race are good,as you can pick a favourite and an outsider if you wish.

How good was that !! (The) Bostonian (NZ) beating some of Australia's best sprinters in the Doomben 10000. By multiple Group One winner Jimmy Choux who was recently sold to Western Australia has now sired his first Group One winner! Doesn't this always happen? When a Sire dies or is exported.... the progeny decide to run a lot faster! Come in pogo (Aus)

  5. It is a sad day when HRNZ get so sensitive regarding strong debate on anything or anyone who dont tow the party line. There are a number of great men and women in our industry at all levels and there are some self interested idiots who cant see the wood for the large green things and believe bluster and threats can win the day. I am a little disappointed in many on here who I regard as mates( although never met) getting into attack mode but hope it all ends well.My name if anyone gives a toss is John Albert Penney ,a bettor, a drinker,a womaniser (most reject me now !!)a horse owner, and all I want is more wins in harness racing . Is that too much to ask at 71.

  6. Hahaha what a joke... I see you joined just to stir maybe????Good on them for winning the Group1 but if she does not win HOTY ...with what she did this season...then its not fair JMO.

  7. I think this type of format can create a ton of banter amongst team mates and other teams...thats the thing with PJ's comp it creates a lot of team spirit..this type of comp Chestnut thought up also can do this I believe.....thanks Chestnut it was a great idea this comp.

    Interesting drive

The winner pulled away from him over the last 100m. Might have made the winner work a tad harder if he'd bumped him 3 wide on the turn, but in the end I don't think it mattered. I'm sure if Blair thought he was going good enough he'd have come out. The last 100m showed he wasn't.

  9. Great competition. Always knew that even though we lead most of the day that if a 40-1 shot won the last couple of races we would be toast. Half a head and it changed the scoreboard by about $55. Oh dear, how sad, too bad.

  10. The comps are great fun. I like how they are run and you can track your progress (or lack thereof!) through the day. On the topic of suggestions you could just allocate people an imaginary $50 to 'spend' on their choice of 10 races....? That would mimic more closely how most people bet, I think. So perhaps people have to have at least 5 bets, totalling $50, to enter. Just a thought. But I do appreciate the effort that goes into it all.

Yeh mate that’s him. The breeding was low key but the horse was a champion. The trip to Japan buggered him up. His 3 year old season was unreal.

How could he not see him... attached is proof that he was easy to see.!!! Saw this print on Trade Me a few years ago and just had to have it.... sits on my wall just above my computer. Its an Alistair Simpson print, an Aussie guy who'se apparently done quite a few like this.

    jewels day

Would like to know peoples thoughts on the hospitality prices for Jewels day. I was told last week that Spectators is $125 pp which only includes entry and some food! Last year I was in the Clubhouse Bar at Cambridge and the package was $100 including beer and wine and food. I have come to think Addington Raceway is very greedy and it is a rip off so I wont be going at this stage. As a side note the beer prices at Addington in spectators are a disgrace too. $16 for a jug!!! that is one place I wont be having a beer in! Regards AC (first time poster on this forum)

  15. Relying totally on memory, I can't recall any NZ horse who has won HOTY purely because of their deeds at the Queensland winter carnival. I suspect Rough Habit would have won HOTY the year he won the Stradbroke and Doomben Cup, but he was going so well that year that he probably won Group Ones in NZ and elsewhere in Australia that season as well. I can't see anyone getting near Melody Belle this year to be honest.

  18. Jack, there you go again making unsubstantiated claims, I have never, ever, said I take 'great pride in not makin any contributions to harness racin' you have absolutely no idea whether or not I make any kind of 'contributions to the sport of harness racin at all, there are other sides to harness besides bettin! and yes I am proud of the fact I DONT BET! bettin aint the be all and end all.....I do know you aint makin sense, rumours, what rumours? what the hell you on about there? oh and the product is 'legitimate' it's been passed by RIU etc, and what side benefits other than healin a part of the horse (by using it's own serum) that is causin an issue, could have the potential to 'skew the playin field'? huh? IT AINT PERFORMANCE ENHANCING! and in your own words a permitted product! and if you did watch BoxSeat you clearly didn't understand it, or didn't want to hear the truth of the matter; keep graspin at straws mate and makin your innuendos, you aint botherin me with your rubbish.....LMAO Cheers Iraklis

  19. Now you are starting to piss me off...which will not end well...and where did i say anything of the sort???? I am the one they come after because of the unsubstantiated innuendo you are throwing about...so either respect the forum rules or don't bother contributing unless you are prepared to put you real name and details to the post.

Imho, The Bostonian May have won the Doomben10,000 but his form during the season does not warrant him being HOTY. However, if he “wins” the Stradbroke, then all bets are off. He should win the HOTY in NZ.

  21. Jack, I aint an average punter I DON'T BET! and that statement of yours is in fact not correct, when you were talking about the treatment bein an anti inflammatory I thought you were talkin about the surface rub type application (as I've already explained) which do have witholding time etc, but as this treatment is of the horses own blood enzymes and not performance enhancing (if you had watched BoxSeat you'd already know all this) etc, couldn't see why you keep referring to it as artificial, and needing significant withold times? I say again your clutchin at straws trying to make something outta nothin, only you just can't see it or you can and you're just bein ignorant....and the thinly veiled snide remarks to Lee in reference to the BoxSeat program confirms it for me.....I suggest you go back to Lee's website, and re-read all that info you so carefully found before, I'm sure if you do it more slowly, more thoroughly this time you'll get your own answers! LEE HAS ANSWERED YOU BEFORE AND IN DEPTH! Cheers Iraklis

  24. Yes the dollar based comps throw up the chance to pick one winner and win. Same rule for everyone so anyone can grab a roughie. Just gotta be shrewd enough to spot the roughie. I suppose The Bostonian looked good to some people based on his good form in the north last year. Well planned raid by Pike.

  25. Are we becoming a police state? by Christie Photoshopped image credit: Boondecker I want to make it clear that I have always respected our police force, and hope to be able to continue to do so. Some of their recent actions have made me wonder what is going on in the force though. Perhaps those of our readers who are current or past police officers could shed some light on recent events. quote. They went through an 80 year old’s underwear and pointed a gun at a 12 year old? Was that really necessary? quote. This is not the only case either. quote. It was legal to buy those guns at that point, and there is no reason to think that either of these people would do anything inappropriate. People on farms and lifestyle blocks have weapons. It does not mean they will go out and kill people. They could do that with their other weapons anyway. Also, I have seen claims on Twitter that the police are telling people to stop calling Jacinda Ardern a socialist on Facebook. The evidence for this is anecdotal, but apparently someone called Magic Talk Radio and talked about this on Thursday. Is this the society we live in now? One where we cannot make what is a factual statement about the prime minister, who has been a socialist all her life? I do not know what is happening here. It may just be a gross overreaction to the Christchurch massacre, but the police have got the guy that did it. It appears that they are now treating innocent people as suspects in a crime that they clearly had nothing to do with. Why are the police ‘defending’ the prime minister from statements of truth? To call her a socialist is accurate. Why do the police think they have the right to tell anyone not to say so? It seems to me that the police are searching out people with attitudes and opinions that they do not like. Even white supremacists are entitled to their opinions, so long as they commit no crimes. That is not, however, how things are starting to pan out. Now it seems that you can be interviewed by the police because you have right wing views. It is good to see the police enforcing the law so vigorously on ordinary citizens. Shame they can’t treat gangs in an equally forceful way.

  29. ' Editorial content' i.e. very strong criticism - is exactly what the Racing Board didn't want and couldn't tolerate. No point concentrating on that....attempts to rein in De Lore were never going to work and are/were completely out of place in journalism.

    Allstars website

Website has been down since Thursday evening... hopefully it gets renewed as it is/was a good source of free information. For all the All Stars haters out there; the blue army do, or at least did, an excellent job on their website, with updates on their horses, plans for upcoming features and also sharing Nat's, Mark's and Tim's thoughts on their charges. No Purdon website, TAB and HRNZ websites, both worse than useless, no informant, the nails keep going in to the coffin.

  31. No insinuations or unsubstantiated allegations from me. Simply asked a few questions about the latest fad product and it's legitimate uses. I haven't alleged anything about any person to have to retract. People have been using products in this game from day one to try and find "an edge". I merely question whether this is happening here or not.

  36. OK, I may have paraphrased a little! You along with a few others on here you have got hold of the wrong end of the stick! The issue I have is not with any trainers that are using ACS as they are doing so legitimately under the current rules. The issue I have is with the legitimacy of the product itself and the pain killing anti-inflammatory benefits it provides as compared to the benefits most people are aware of. There are no names to name. The users are quite open about it, and rightly so. After all, it's a permitted products under the current rules. The side benefits however have the potential to skew the playing field! If raising the issue makes me a bad person, then it's little wonder the industry is on shakier ground than me!

  37. This we all know Iraklis. You seem to take great pride in the fact that you don't punt or make any financial contribution to the industry. By the way, the term "average punter" is a slang term referring to "an average consumer or user of a product or service" as opposed to someone with technical knowledge or expertise in the field. Rumours that I deliberately planted a word with a double meaning in that post just to see you reply in capitals are just that. Unsubstantiated rumours! I did watch the Box Seat, every single word of it in fact, but being from a scientific background .... well lets just say (oops, Scooby has told me opinions contrary to official HRNZ policy will not be tolerated, so I can't say!). I'm looking forward to Part 2 which should be enthralling!
