  1. Yesterday at Pukekohe we had R65 horses running around for $10,000 and R72 horses racing for $11,000. Sobering to realise that John Allen is paid this amount every week regardless of performance. If he was a horse his form summary would read- Racing well below par and hard to see a form reversal here.

    FORMER PM A WINNER?

Well Scooby I will tell you who I support, with as much as I possibly can. It’s certainly not within a bull’s roar of what John Key gives to charity, but as a % of my little wealth, it’s probably OK. Anyway, I invite anyone and everyone to check out the ‘Nelson Ark’ and the fantastic job they do for youth and dogs, it’s absolutely amazing. Liz P.S. Simply google them please.

  3. More of a harness man myself, but always taken an interest with the photos of the betslips CBT posts. I must have missed the Brutal one, but don't doubt it. Takes a set to do what he does; part with the coin and post the pics before a race. No doubt a few people would have been lining up waiting to give him some advice on stopping trains etc if that thing didn't win today. But good on him I say.

    FORMER PM A WINNER?

But no , he would have needed to register that as PM , as he sets the policy of the country, so conflicts of interest comes into it . I am speaking generally here not a particular PM. It was subject to at least one OIA request from a Google search. To be fair Scooby iam not that bothered who or what or how much as any donations would have been scrutanised I would have thought as a matter of policy and accountability anyway. But a PM is in a completely different position to Joe or Joanne Public .

  5. A person I was chatting to said “what’s equity?” I used the example that In 2017 the business I owned had net assets of $69.3 million and there were no borrowings. In January 2019 that same business had net assets of $63.5 million but we now had bank borrowings of $25million So not only had the value of the business gone backwards, it had also “mortgaged” itself up by a not inconsequential sum and was intending to get even deeper in debt. The friend asked how borrowings would be repaid? Sadly the NZRB hasn’t publicly said how this will happen and most likely because it will be somebody else’s problem - Hughes, Allen et al will have moved on. Winter is approaching Phantom.

  6. why did he bother broadcasting the fact and stand by while it took on a life of its own as if he donated the lot...then! Virtue is it's own...reward.

  7. He never claimed to be 'generous'. All he said was that he would give a portion of his annual income to charity. You sound like the jealous type who likes to bring those with a bit of success down a peg or two to level the playing field..... you aren't Marama Davidson are you ?

Your comparing apples with oranges in that scenario. Someone running for public office stating something on the public record during and election campaign or just after is completely different to a private citizen.

  15. I'm sure John's answer to that would be "that's ok, I don't have a share in a horse either".

  16. I think it is disgraceful that the only jumps at Riccarton are during Grand National week. They expect everyone else to provide the lead-ups for them. It is a pity that time honoured names like the Homeby have disappeared.

  17. If the figures posted by Eclipsed are correct, that the equity of NZRB dropped from 53.5 to 38.2 in six months; then how come Racecafe is the only place showing any worry about that dreadful trend. This is alarming in the extreme. My old lawyer mate, who is so old that he raced a horse by Test Case, told us on Saturday that he no longer has a share in a racehorse and that whilst John Allen runs the show, he will not have another share in a racehorse. This matter has now become extremely serious.

Condolences to the Schofield familly, I cannot believe I have not read anything on the Greyhound NZGRA website in regards to the passing of David. His contribution to the sport for many years help grow the sport to what it is today. A very good dog person and we can view viideos all day with some of the great Greyhounds and prestigious races he was involved with. It is just a pity the positive things had not been told This puts a bad taste in my mouth and have just about had enough with Greyhound Racing in NZ

  19. So smart trainers will send horses to Auckland from all over the country to ensure their horses are given every chance to qualify. ATC is also rewarded for increased stakes with better larger fields. Win win methinks

  20. Hmmm....Riccarton likes the 'glory' of staging a Grand National, but does shit all to contribute to the development of jumpers overall. The schooling fences have only just been put back up after their summer 'repairs' and there is no jump racing held there now apart from the G.N.

    Cran and Nigel

Why do you say some want them to fail? Can't observations be made without the negative spin. I could say a more correct observation would be some want the perception of a negativity put on observations based on facts. Since im here my thoughts on why the two mentioned trainers have not been as successful as previous years. In the McGrath case I think its just some years he has better horses than others. His udr has always been a bit up and down in recent years. As to mr dalgety. I think he currently is using an out of form driver a lot, he has had several positives in recent times which may have made him more cautious,(or maybe that is just coincidence) and he doesn't seem to have many new promising horses currently racing. I may be right,i may be wrong, He seems a nice bloke and a good trainer but I know I couldn't care less whether he returns to his former glory days. I will leave the caring to those who support him. One observation based on fact is if you look at his udr and number of starters in recent years, there is a consistent pattern of both dropping.

  22. Hey Rusty, My great uncle Merv Corner used to be President of the Auckland Trotting Club. We had a family reunion there many years ago (I was too young to know about horses & punting then). I had a Waikato University excursion, when I was living in one of the Halls of Residence there, to the Cambridge Trots one night. That was my first personal direct contact with horses and punting and I’ve never looked back since. I remember backing Terminating at Alexandra Park one night. I had $10 each way paying 10s and was so excited I nearly pulled a muscle my back. I’ve been to Gloucester Park in Perth and to Melton a few times in Melbourne. Love the trots!

  26. cindys royal commission into the Christchurch mass murders might be interesting . I wonder what part her appointment of nikki hager and others who distrust our SIS has played in missing important intelligence . With people like these looking over the shoulders of our SIS operatives it must make their activities less effective and much more difficult . The intelligence and security watchdog has established a group made up of journalists, lawyers, academics, and security experts to help ensure intelligence and security agencies act lawfully and properly. Investigative journalist and author Nicky Hager has been a vocal critic of some of the actions taken by NZSIS and the GCSB in the past. He is a member of the group. .

  32. Unfortunately, it's the big clubs like Trentham and Riccarton that have the worst winter tracks. Hard to really see how they could be improved given the results of all previous attempts to bring them up to scratch. The SI does have the use of good winter tracks at Oamaru, Waimate, Timaru and Ashburton: oh yes, just realised most of them are going to be closed down. And there are reasonable existing tracks in the north as well, such as Foxton, but there is a reluctance to use them.

    All Weather track Waikato

Personally I’d rather see the natural surfaces and facilities upgraded at the city clubs and keep our country clubs as a feeder system for both horses and general interest . At the end of the day selling a country club would probably only yield the resources to cover some unknown consultants fees . Which would be a complete waste of money and history.

  36. If JA stuck his hand up and admitted the website wasn't up to scratch and needed to be better , I am sure he would get the support of 99% of all the punters in this country, (1% thinks it's great and WE should learn to navigate it better) C'mon John , be a man John

    $2000 Import Fee

Yes Steve the northern region has and will continue to become the dumping ground for the 2 biggest puppy farms here in NZ as trainers require replacement racing stock.Dont expect Cup winners etc they will only be sent north when they are past their best and they dont have the worry about there dispersal.Perhaps they should be charged a fee once the dog leaves their racing kennels to goes towards rehoming.

    Coprice

For those of you that are using Coprice Working Dog and have any concerns, I have been able to get a statement from Coprice to say where they are at, in regards to the Green Tea in the Working Dog. Hope this helps 29th March 2019 CopRice Working Dog Food CopRice has been using an antioxidant pack in its Working Dog products for the last 6 years. This antioxidant pack is sourced from a reputable supplier and as CopRice understands, it is commonly used in the pet food industry. In February this year, CopRice changed it’s Working Dog packaging, and in the interests of transparency, CopRice chose to show the ingredient breakdown of the antioxidant pack, an element of which is a very low level of green tea extract. CopRice acknowledges that the greyhound industry considers caffeine a banned substance, owing to the fact that it is considered a diuretic and a stimulant. CopRice notes that the level of caffeine in the CopRice Working Dog products is below the recognised threshold and as such, it is unlikely that a Greyhound fed only CopRice working Dog in accordance with the feeding guidelines would return a positive result for Caffeine. CopRice confirms that there has been no change to the recipe or ingredients contained in the Working Dog Product, nor to the recipe or ingredients of theof the antioxidant mix, CopRice also notes that it is not aware of any Greyhound that has returned a positive result for caffeine while being fed CopRice Working Dog. Furthermore, to support this position, CopRice submitted three separate samples of Working Dog to an independent laboratory for testing, none of which showed detectable levels of caffeine. Currently CopRice is working with the Greyhound Racing Integrity Unit who are independently testing CopRice Working Dog food for caffeine and we will share the outcome of these tests when finalised in approximately 2 weeks. If you require any further clarification or information, please do not hesitate to contact your CopRice representative who will put you in touch with our nutrition team. 43. Winsome Ashley was fast - very fast! But not quite that fast. Well spotted, it should have been 29.83 I recall her as having an extra gear which she slipped into at about the 120-150m mark.. A two-length lead very quickly became 8 to 10 lengths. And, of course, they were G1 races so there were some very handy dogs in behind, chasing a shadow. Interestingly, when they did a doco on the Faheys 18 months or so ago, Jean very definitely stated that Ashley was her utmost favourite. For her nature, as much as for her ability. PS Re the GOTY. If memory serves me correctly, the points system got the go-bye after the Pizza Girl/Winsome Ashley bizzo.
