  5. Fair enough. I saw it differently and having ridden and driven a few i know how they can pull themselves up in bad going but go again should another horse come along side.

  6. The Stewards report suggests otherwise as they were satisfied after talking to him that he gave the horse every chance. ENHANCE YOUR CALM - Stewards spoke with driver M Purdon as to whether he could have displayed more vigour in the early stages of the run home to establish a bigger advantage over the trailing runners. Mr Purdon explained that his gelding had travelled well throughout however did not respond as anticipated when he released the deafeners near the 200 metres. He added it was the gelding's first attempt over 2600 metres and that combined with the track conditions may have contributed to its inability to quicken when asked for an effort. Unlike his training partner Mark Purdon has never been an aggressive driver in terms of whip or rein use which is to his credit and his record suggests he gets the best out of his charges. I suppose its ironic that winning driver Bob Butt got a 5 day holiday and $500 fine for excessive use Its the same anti AS nutters who bag the likes of MP and NR when they win or lose. In that respect I must congratulate those who currently post on here and to the owner for the civilized behaviour and respect that's shown by contributors and moderators alike to others posts.

  8. Actually I sorta kinda agree, WAPost, my first thoughts were MarkP was caught by surprise, his horse was truckin and he thought he was sorted, by the time he realised it, and the horse responded to Mark it was too late, hey it was only the tip of the nose in it but there it is.....no conspiracies, sometimes yuh get that on the big jobs jot that one down to a big fat BUGGGAAHHH!!!! Your idea, very sound as it is , is one that has been mooted on here many times but it falls on deaf ears on most occasions with the powers at be. Not sure centralising it with breeders having a say is a good model after watching what they have done to gallops but am never afraid to be proven wrong.

    $2000 Import Fee

the 250 dogs a year( i don't actually know if this is the no.coming in) are as a rule ready made race dogs..... if these cease they will need to be replaced by NZ breed pups or we will lose racing dates and then revenue you cant have both less dogs and same racing without causing another welfare issue........... too get the 250 race dogs i would imagine it will take at least 500 more NZ breed pups a year and who,s going too breed them?? another 150 bigtimes 150 homebushes? wouldn't this really help our code....... the ideology behind these anti-import policies is that we are some how helping the Australian industry by taking these dogs, in the 17/18 season Victoria alone re homed 2600 dogs, nationwide i would imagine in 18/19 season they would be re homing well over 5 or 6000 dogs could even be more so 250 would not make alot of difference....... i would like too think welfare is at the top of everyone's agenda but this policy would make no difference what so ever, its all most a "green policy" mostly feel good but very little common sense......

I see the nutters are crowing conspiracy theories about MP's driving as per usual but your classy enough as are most on here to ignore such rubbish.

    Mares Races

8 of the Mares in the Matchmaker series being run at Yonkers presently are former Nz ers. If we catered for 4 year old plus mares here most of those would still be racing in NZ. Instead the owners are forced to sell because the people programming races here won’t cater for them adequately. As a consequence they are lost to our breeding industry. Is it time to take programming off clubs and centralise it with a national committee of breeders, trainers and owners involved, that can oversee complimentary programming nationwide and inject some common sense into the system?

  13. Its great to see a southland horse win so impressively, and also to see mr Kilkelly as the owner. Having said that,In my opinion some are getting carried away. The horse has been described by connections as a day to day proposition, with tendon trouble apparently twice ending previous preparations. It is trained on the beach, and conditions should have suited the other night, and it got the perfect run. I hope it stays sound so it has the chance to fulfill its potential, however I think it has a way to go to be described as the next big thing.

  14. I have been very critical in the past of the NZ Racing Board, and I believe my criticism has been justified. So, this morning I wish to compliment them on their live coverage of the Grand National Steeplechase from Aintree. It was wonderful.

  15. I couldn’t agree more. How their performances over the last 5 years can be supported by anyone is totally beyond me. The success or failure of any business is measured in it’s profitability and balance sheet. Look at theirs and the flow on effect which Is in free fall for all participants.

  17. Agree Jack Sprat. I thought action all over. missed last race. but..... wow indeed that was the time and performance on the slush for everyone to take notice..very sim to grandad CC from Graeme Pearsons family (oaxaca lad/lass etc) exciting stuff. from a good sire with good % of winners (nek time 1.54, jos dream 1.55,my lucky belle 1.51,take to the sky etc) but great to see as you rightly say ,not from rolleston, and not bred in clevedon, .wish I had him . perhaps could swap house in Whanganui for him . (only joking bit cold sleeping in stable)

    Update April. John Allen

He is so full of shit. On $660K+ a year, been there five years and achieved absolutely nothing, spent $50m+ that the industry doesn't have on the worst betting platform you could imagine. And as for blaming the absence of Race Fields Legislation for falling turner is spin that Mitch McConnell would be proud of. Time to put the shot putter and return Postman Pat to sender, the board that appointed these clowns should be ashamed to show their faces in public.

I fly out on Thursday to see Winx. The two things I like about Aussie are their horse racing and the best newspaper in Australasia, by so far it is not funny. I mean, The Australian. I am sure I will enjoy it and hopefully get a quid at Randwick.

    Update April. John Allen

John Allen should stand for parliament next year. His spin is uplifting..... "Reported net profit for the first half of 2018/19 was $76.2 million, $2.8 million or 3.5% down on last year, a result impacted by the absence of anticipated Racefield’s legislation" Help me understand how a downwards trending result can be a factor of something that wasn't there last year and aint there this year either?? Income from racing plummeted by $8m for this 6 months on the same period last year however sports betting and pokies smoothed some of that chasm. The half yearly report has an Ariadne feeling with Bruce Judge at the helm.... NZRB's Equity at 2017 $69.3m NZRB's Equity at 2018 $53.5m NZRB's Equity at Jan 2019 $38.2m Fear not, as although borrowings from the bank have lifted from $10m mid 2018 to $25m at January 2019, the NZRB's liquidity is as good as gold. "At balance date, NZRB had available (undrawn) $10 million under its rolling credit bank facility" - how reassuring.

Fair point Newmarket, but very frustrating that nobody involved in handicapping or programming seems to show any interest in entering into a discussion on how to improve the system. Harness update on HRNZ website lead with story about entry for Jewels being a gold coin donation. If that’s the most significant story they can come up with they shouldn’t bother with podcast.

    $2000 Import Fee

To those of you who think this tariff will fix the issues we have. I follow the GAP list weekly as I have dogs on the list. There are always dogs on the list that were never named. If you increase NZ breeding, the numbers put up for adoption that were never raced will also increase negating any reduction in imports. You are just replacing one with another. The difference being that an import doesn't come with littermates that will never make the track. I can tell you who is placing dogs for adoption without looking the dogs up. We do NOT give these people the help or credit they deserve. I am posting part of a current GAP list. That list contains 5 un-named dogs, one named who never made the track. That list contains a number of imports that ended their careers with secondary trainers. Trainers who were happy to give NZ bred and import hand me downs a second chance and do right by all at retirement. Stop using rehoming as an excuse to justify this tariff. PS There will always be an issue with NZ litters all retiring at the same time. You breed 100 pups in 2019 and 3-4 years down the track you have a possible 100 dogs looking for retirement homes.

  36. I've always been amazed how the NZRB and NZTR have made such odd decisions in regards to personnel. You could swear that they've been hired to ruin racing, so pitiful the decisions that have been made these past 15 plus years. The spin lacks any evidence that things are about to improve, in fact it looks completely rudderless and looks headed for further demise. The latest Deloitte's report is another desperate attempt to find answers. WTF do they(Deloitte) know about betting and betting platforms - how much was wasted on this? Why wouldn't you employ someone that knows a thing or three. I know a slight/maybe big stretch but take Bet 365 for example - Denise Coates. Coates started out as cashier, marking up results in a small number of betting shops owned by her father, Peter, as a sideline to his main business of football stadium catering. After graduating with a first in econometrics – the application of statistical methods to economic data – from Sheffield University, she expanded the family’s Provincial Racing betting chain to nearly 50 shops. Now CEO of Bet365 her salary last year was 199 million pounds. The point I'm really trying making is wouldn't you hire for the position required. We have experts at ledgers, sending post and chucking heavy objects - whoever hired them the problem. Why (20 years ago and still to this date) wouldn't you hire an expert in betting/bookmaking/betting platforms???
