When it’s run 100% as a business and it’s all about money I can see why it’s pushing $3400.Being part of a syndicate that trains at a country course the cost can be alot less and the enjoyment just the same especially when you get to dent the odd reputation. Like anything pays to shop around and join a syndicate or trainer that mirrors your values or views. The highs are high and the lows are low so strap yourself in and enjoy the ride .6 points

Trump written off
6xes and 2 others reacted to tripple alliance for a topic
Well here's something to think about , it seems you are the only one on this site who thinks Trump is shit , if you use this as a guide then 85% think Trump is great . Now let's not get carried away , I for one would never have voted for him , my mistake but if I was an American next time around I would vote for Trump , he's perhaps one of a very few who understands what's happening internationally . The left world wide are a real threat to western civilisation , Trump is a shining light for those who believe in freedom . Look what we have , cindy , what a left wing looney , she forgets some one must pay for what she gives away and then we have her global warming , yea rite , just an excuse to manipulate young people , vote for us , save the world and while we are at it we will smash western civilisation's and economy's and all the while China grows in strength , if you want something to worry about just look at China and then say thanks Don for standing your ground . A real man is our Don , balls of steel .3 points -

Training fees ' a bit high ..' are you serious? Most trainers I know - apart from those in the top bracket - are chewing the paint off the walls...those that aren't may have family money, properties etc which keeps the wolf from the door..but rest assured there is f all money made from training.3 points -
Agree the track water problem is unbelievable..2 of my 4 dogs did pads...why put water on the track and then put the pads around 5 times after on the tractor which drys out the track....unfortunate we have robert roberts running things and no management...track staff dont want to be told what to do by a robot in the office...i was told when i scratched 13 dogs 3yrs ago by the riu that someone has to be at the track the day before racing.....this has not happened ...bow your heads again auckland your a disgrace..2 points

Make Harness Racing Great Again
Fartoomuch and one other reacted to We're Doomed for a topic
I must admit Harness Racing does confuse me with its class structure. At Winton today all of the maiden races are worth around about the $12,000 mark, whereas a race with several winners in it is worth only $8,000. All of the races with winners in them seem to be worth no more than $10,000, mostly less. Is this some sort of novelty gimmick just for today, or is it a common approach. I think one of harness racing's biggest problems is the lack of incentive or willingness for horses to go through the grades.2 points -

It would be because of the more serious charges that are pending. The Rasmussen diversion thing was very predictable, just the way the system works, Having a good lawyer no doubt helped, but it was likely to be dealt with that way anyway. Seems a fair outcome.2 points -

AUCKLAND DROUGHT
yorky reacted to Flabbergasted for a topic
It appears that Auckland is in the grip of a drought given the track surface today. The distinct lack of water is blatantly evident and as usual complaints and expert advice just falls on deaf ears. Those in power at the club always know better than everyone else and treat lp's with contempt just shrugging them off as being whingers and poor losers. Well that's BS because i never had a runner today - but I am not blind and never had a bet because I saw how poor the track was. Dogs are just struggling to get footing on the loose and at least one dog has already been injured and there is little doubt that it was due to the poor state and it'll come as no surprise if there's more. With the Auckland Cup and Railway on their doorstep it's time to get their act together before it's too late.1 point -

Yeah exactly and it's about time they bit the bullet and did something proactive for the sport especially with such a high focus on animal welfare and they keep serving up poor surfaces mainly as a result of under-prepared tracks. Thanks, wedding venue is about 30 mins from here, so I won’t chance it. Had a little hand in the breeding of the champ, we trained Al Akbar when he was racing and Paul Cash asked me when he retired if he was a chance of making a stallion. I gave him the thumbs up, and the resulting progeny was Vegas Showgirl, Winx’s mum. Al Akbar met a sad demise, and his record as a broodmare sire is very good! We did bring him to Sydney where he won a G3 race beating Big Dreams. He was a real gentleman around the stable, although he did fancy mounting the fibreglass horse at Riccarton after he won the Stewards Handicap, our strapper on the day Stu Munro was able to reign him in.1 point -

Do FACT-LESS claims become FACTS in the minds of many?Do they count on the fact that w/ work, family, stresses of life, etc. that the typical person does not have enough time in the day to research topics for themselves and therefore would believe narratives projected in the echo chamber w/o the need to provide facts or substance other than opinion? Why do they try so hard to keep you DIVIDED by race, gender, class, ……?Notice an increase in this push over the past 2-years? No negativity towards them from what I can see Nick, I can understand where they are coming from for sure, however I have raced plenty of horses over the last 10yrs and have 5 right now, NO ONE is paying me anything for providing the show. No argument about NZTR from me, but as Puha has said there are countless volunteers that have put in months if not years of voluntary service to ensure everyone can have a party in the sun. Not to mention this BGP movement as they call it was never sold on the premise that anyone should make any money out of it, it was a feel good facebook movement of like minded individuals and now its heading in a completely new direction, before they start seeing $$$ for bringing young punters on course I'd like to see owners looked after with a starters allowance or appearance fee. You're kidding if you think these guys will save racing by bringing 300 punters on course, unless you mean to put the rail up,put the track back, muck out the tie ups etc etc etc1 point

. I remember going to the trials at wyndham one day about 25 years ago and there were over 240 horses in and a large number came from part timers. They are the ones who paid the studs to breed a horse, paid a professional to break in their horses, paid the transport companies, paid the farrier and the vet, had a bet, brought along the family to the races and had the extended family follow their horses, often some of whom later became involved. They are the ones who helped make up the full fields which provided driving fees for the professionals at the races and trials. When I watched the full fields at rangiora the other day I was taken by some of the drivers who may sometimes get 1 or 2 drives, actually had 10 or 11. Why because of field size, and many of those were trained by amateurs. The point is the more people that participate, the greater the money circulated. To maintain participation levels you must strike a balance which allows everyone to participate. Im not saying closing some tracks is a bad thing, i think it inevitable in some instances and actually agree with that. They just have to be strategic in the choices.1 point -

not when virtually every comment you have made is an insult to a large trotting fraternity with collectively millions invested in property and horses. some of your amateuretc etc. insults are against people such as Doug gale a group winning trainer also Stephen Doody trainer originally of Blossom lady and Te Kawau. Perhaps Auckland track should become more apartments and the funds distributed around centres such as cambridge/manawatuI have personally only stayed in harness racing because of Manawatu Harness racing and the tremendous efforts of a volunteer committee who do their best to produce top facilities/for horses and patrons often on a shoestring budget. After 50years in harness racing as an owner/breedertreasurer/committee man and fulltime sec.manager for metoeven give you any sort of reply. I have fought battles when the odds were against winning over introducing a passing lane to nz/free entry to courses/ $75000 trainer bonuses etc all worked may explain why Messara report will only be implemented where it is economically sensible.
