Guess most realise nothing wrong has transpired but it’s the integrity issue that we have had rammed down our throats the last decade or so that raises its head again . Surely if a jockey owns a fair portion of a horse it should be disclosed which it wasn’t . Then the day after Mr Marsh announcemed Danielle had a share and eyebrows were raised rightly or wrongly the details were changed .

Jockey X rode both Horse A and Horse B at their last starts. Today he's riding Horse B. Can punters assume that it is because he/his advisors think Horse B has the best chance of winning and then factor that into their punting? Or do we have to wonder if maybe he owns a piece of Horse B and we don't know about it? Punting is an information game. You take a stack of information, interpret it your own way, and try to predict future events. The less information you have, the less likely you are to predict the future correctly. The less likely you are to predict the future correctly, the less likely you are to bet. No-one's saying that Danielle is a crook or anything. She appears to have followed the rules (IANAL). But if the rules allow for jockeys (or anyone, really) to have hidden interests in horses, the rules suck.

. I remember going to the trials at wyndham one day about 25 years ago and there were over 240 horses in and a large number came from part timers. They are the ones who paid the studs to breed a horse, paid a professional to break in their horses, paid the transport companies, paid the farrier and the vet, had a bet, brought along the family to the races and had the extended family follow their horses, often some of whom later became involved. They are the ones who helped make up the full fields which provided driving fees for the professionals at the races and trials. When I watched the full fields at rangiora the other day I was taken by some of the drivers who may sometimes get 1 or 2 drives, actually had 10 or 11. Why because of field size, and many of those were trained by amateurs. The point is the more people that participate, the greater the money circulated. To maintain participation levels you must strike a balance which allows everyone to participate. Im not saying closing some tracks is a bad thing, i think it inevitable in some instances and actually agree with that. They just have to be strategic in the choices.

  6. NZ Racing has all the official ownership recorded, you state on the forms what names you want to have disclosed in the Racebook. Some people don’t want their names in the book, is that a sin?

  12. Nailed it , look around a course on normal day , look around a tab on a Saturday , most me included nearer the end than the start. Not many youngsters in city understand , want to understand or remotely interested it's a demographic time bomb that will eventually do for the game .As much as I do not understanding or have any interest in " gamers" they are the same with racing It will just be that track at Cambridge , getting them off the farm up and running for Asia , be no different than exporting milk and who stands there watching milk powder produced for fun.

Don't ever lose sight of the fact that the UN top job reject Clark is pulling the strings via the Heather Simpson conduit embedded in Ardern's office. As for Peters, well you idiotic acolytes reap what you sow.

Suspect does not have to mean illegal or illicit it can mean lacking in judgement as I think was the situation in this case. Yes the horse was on the bit, but not so badly he couldn't have waited for a second or two for the passing lane to come up. If he had done that he would have won the race

  16. You are correct., Chevy 86.Only the name of Vela was listed when i looked. My first thought was is that the first horse Vela has had with Marsh. It would seem to me that any licenced person with a shareholding in a horse should have it listed for all to see.

You must have had the asian translation version of NZTR Scooby. In little old NZ the full ownership was not on the site on Sunday at any time.I was very careful in checking TAB, NZTR sites before the initial posting. ( BTW, is anybody else ready to puke over the lazy advertising gimmick of Love Racing, Love Golf, Love the Supercity etc etc?)

    Ownership Clarification

So is a jockey allowed to unofficially own half a horse, not tell NZTR, ride another horse in the same race and strongarm their mount so the one they own wins? Are they allowed to do any of those things (for example the first one, which apparently was the case with Balios; while the ownership info on LoveRacing includes Danielle now, it didn't a few days ago)? The correct (as far as we know; who's to say there aren't more owners of Balios that no-one has accidentally mentioned on Trackside?) info is there for Balios now. How many other horses does Danielle kinda-sorta-own that NZTR/the betting public don't know about? How many other horses does Sir Peter Vela secretly co-own with other jockeys? If you don't need to let NZTR know the true ownership details of a horse, how many people who have been warned off are still secret owners? I have no beef with any of the people involved in this situation. I've had nothing to do with any of them (except as a punter). But having secret owners, and jockeys with secret motives the betting public don't know about, looks dodgy as ****. I don't think "It's sorted now, let's move on" is the right approach. It's not so much that we have bigger fish to fry, it's that this is part of the same stinking, rotting fish that is NZTR's ongoing incompetence. It's yet another example from NZTR's court that will further erode punter confidence in NZ thoroughbred racing, further erode turnover, and further erode stakes.

    NZ TAB Response

Matt Sole would be well advised to enrol in a remedial Public Relations Course. If he is serious about profitability why not scrap the morning American Racing product which would be running at a considerable loss. The turnover would not even cover the cost of printing the fields!

UN’s migration compact ‘reckless, unfair, and unsustainable’ by Christie Photo supplied to Whaleoil It seems that we have signed… as if it was ever in question. With a Marxist who wants a top job at the UN in charge of the country, we were always going to sign the UN Migration Compact. At least Jacinda is true to form. The real sell out comes from Winston Peters but, once again, I wonder why we are all surprised? The Irish publication, The Burkean has written an interesting article about the possible consequences of signing this compact… consequences we are already starting to see around Europe. quote. It seems that a Marxist media is not something confined to New Zealand. quote. We have now learned that the compact is going to be legally binding anyway. Why bother doing it if members could just walk away from it? quote. Do you have a shortage of builders? Tough. You have to take unskilled labourers from North Africa, who speak no English and do not know one end of a hammer from another. You cannot select, or discriminate. quote. All immigration policy has been ‘discriminatory’ up until now. It has to be. Otherwise we would simply have hordes of people pouring over our borders. Oh, wait… quote. Already happening and this compact will make sure it just gets worse. quote. Thanks, Jacinda and more to the point, thanks, Winston. You could have stopped this. Whatever happens now is entirely down to you.

  24. Online sports is huge, and it doesn't take a huge leap of imagination to get to the point where you have virtual horses created with random physical & mental traits that they have 'inherited' from their virtual parents. Trainers will have to try to get the best out of these virtual horses with combinations of different types of work, feed, and stable conditions, and then you will have jockeys (pimply youths in darkened rooms on comfy gaming chairs) controlling them under race conditions. There's already games out there that do this. The new generation is only interested in real horses once a year, but they'll watch this rubbish all year. The Greens will eventually win, the greyhounds are going to be on the wrong side of history soon, and then they'll get the momentum to severely curtail, or cancel, thoroughbred racing with actual horses forever - I give it 10 years. Like the demise of newspapers and programmed TV - if you can see it in the future, it's already here. I dunno, maybe I'm a bit grumpy 'cause I haven't finished my Xmas shopping yet...
