It's got nothing to with being "tough" or that the Dunns are not great trainers. I did not say that. What i said was Captain Dolmio, in my mind, performed better when he was trained by Matt Brinsdon at Gore. The horse came to Addington a number of times with Brinsdon as trainer and always performed well regardless of how tough the grade was. The horse has not been the same since being based in Canterbury in my opinion.

I don't want the cup to become a mobile start or the race will be in danger of becoming just another race, as the Auckland Cup did as a mobile 2600m race. But you are right Thejanitor, Mulcay and Ron Carter before him did not have the trouble this starter has because once a horse played up more than once it was sent to the outside before the rest of the field became unsettled. Also I think in fairness to Lamb trainers were better at getting a horse to stand properly. The horses and drivers though have to now work out whether it is a stand or a walk up which doesn't help. The "old school" had i

La Zip, you are 100% correct, trading has killed the domestic market and Asia has destroyed most NZ families. Broodmares particularly and a lot of Stallions too. Sadly on Thursday at the RT,R, I just added another nail to the coffin of my own family by selling a nice colt to Malaysia at cost. Fuck it were my thoughts at the time, and they haven't changed since.

And wait for it your trainer is----R Dunn. Good on you for being so loyal, if he cant beat AS in next few seasons then perhaps you might want to change stables and make some money for your syndicates

Aussie racing gets plenty of people punting and going to racemeetings without Winx. I agree great horses would help but have we even had one since Sunline? Not something we can rely on and with our shitty stakes who in their right mind would keep a great horse here? Hence I see stakes as a far greater issue. I would also argue trading is the only thing keeping NZ racing alive at all as who would be crazy enough to have a horse/train/etc without a re-sale market? Surely we would have 500 horses nationwide if no-one could ever on sell. I do respect your thoughts and you have valid reas

Excuses have run out. I amsure we may have brought some horses North if a travel subsidy was offered. but never any contact from anyone. I realise a saddle trot a novelty and the once a year corporate clients that buy some refreshments will have a great laugh at it. Why not have 2 saddle trots (10 races) a

I see you are still barking up the wrong tree La Zip, what you are suggesting will not make a blind bit of difference to the survival of NZ Racing. What it will in fact do is drive those who still race a few and sell the rest even quicker out of the game and exasperate the problem. Those people above whom you state do not recompense the industry, are providing employment for stable hands, trackwork riders, admin staff, facilities staff, vets, feed merchants, farriers and so on, plus paying fees all over the place. Its a bloody long bow to state they are not recompensing the industry in s

What compounds this problem are 2 issues. Trading to Asia has killed the value of the Stud book. As you say Insider, selling a colt to Malaysia will do nothing for your family. And anyone that wants to argue that a win in Singapore, Macau, Malaysia and to a degree Hong Kong enhances your family, go and take a dose of salts. Secondly, we sell these horses, in the majority of cases, with no GST payable. And whilst this is a government policy, it’s actually detrimental to our industry. We’re asking the Government to see its way clear for funding but we’re sending our assets offshore

Fear enough Newmarket, I agree we did sign for a few yearlings last year but if you look at the average price it was quite low. I hope you are right and we bought well and somehow take out a premiership but those all stars are bloody good.

I only ask as there does seem to be an overwhelming percentage of people that have expressed some degree of concern with his methods. Jack Mulcay was a brilliant starter. Just had the knack.

Not that easy to get a horse into All Stars , you don't pick them , they pick your horse. Very selective ,and can assess a horse quickly. As for the rest I believe the Dunn stable is as good if not better than any. They turn their horses out well ,place them to advantage and have good communication........and obviously get very good results.

If I based Picking a trainer based on winning a premiership I would certainly be with the all stars but at the moment I'm more than happy to go out on a Saturday morning and drive one of my own. As for a connection gearing up there own horse I find that very hard to believe, John is very particular pre race and I have been in the stables at every meeting at addington over the last ten years and haven't witnessed it yet. But who knows it may have happened. As for being a successful syndicate or not maybe you base results solely on making money , as for me I think if you can break even and have

If you are someone who has been following the Trump/Russia collusion.. and have had heard bits and peices from Alternative-media.. regarding the Obama spygate /Mueller with President Trump impeachment etc This Clip with Dan Bongino connects all the dots in a manner which is very eye opening!! i love the breakdown, and the simplistic way in which he makes the presentation!! Its a must see!! Not sure how long before the clip gets censored and removed by youtube!!

    Wet track sires?

I think Gubes that dogs are not affected by the tracks as horses are. Most will run similar on whatever surface. In my experience with dogs though some don't like racing in the wet (rain) more than others but I have never been able to link that their sire.

    WILL HE OR WONT HE?

The horse, Long Leaf, was mentioned. Should it come, and it has connections here, J Mac will probably come as well. Michael Guerin did say "probably" in relation to the 3 meetings referred to above. He speculated that anyone who had a horse in one of the big races, and did not have a confirmed jockey, would no doubt be interested in booking McDonald. The reference to crowds escapes me. I did not hear MG make any reference to those.

the drivers know Lamb's ways and try and get a flyer by anticipating his call. The more he uses the jog up starting method, he has invented the more these "cunning" drivers will play it and try to get an advantage over others. Lamb also appears to have the mantle of Senior Starter for the harness code so there is no one to "sharpen him up"

It was. Starting methods seem to have changed. When Jack Mulcay was starter the procedure was that the No. 1 horse would line-up at the tape first and the others follow suit, you would end up with a straight line of horses on the tape, they would stand for a moment and then the tape would fly. This years Cup was different, the No. 1 horse, The Fixer, was three lengths from the tape when the tape flew. Fortunately, for the horses' connections, it didn't matter much because many other horses were also out of line. Despite breaking for a few strides the horse soon made up ground. I think the

    What the

With the current rules in place in NSW and Victoria, numbers have decreased dramatically in the last few years. It has really hit NSW and Victoria hard. Many meetings are reopened for one or two days at a time these days. I understand sprinters going to NZ. Unless you are a small hobby trainer having some fun or you have one of the top 5 best sprinters in the country, they are not viable to keep in Australia. Better of sending them to NZ where they can make 30-50k. Same goes with middle distance dogs in NSW, if you can't compete at the top 5 or 6 tracks in NSW, these same dogs w

As claimers didnt take off in Nz perhaps another separation from the present set up used extensively in USA to keep horses racing.... is conditions such as "FOR UP TO 4 WIN HORSES THAT HAVE NOT WON MORE THAN $3000 LAST 5 STARTS." the wins and dollars won can change but advantage is trainers could find race with other horses in a struggling category.works well in uSA.(maybe even 1/2 points for win) dont like copy trump country but may be some merit with trainers/handicappers ideas.

Each to their own Tim but the gearing up bit came from connections. As for R Dunn being a great trainer , IMHO he should be doing a lot better given how much he spends buying both tried and untried horses. A quick look at his massive last yearling sales purchase suggest he should be winning premierships very soon given team AS scale back

Problem is NZ are forced to sell best where UK, Ire and Australia keep best sell the ones below that and the ones below that stay in country , race on decent tracks to keep the midweek meetings ticking over for punters with horses moving up and down handicap, with a rating system that's pretty straightforward for punter to follow. The handicappers that go for years keep whole thing ticking over. Ireland went through a period of decline from mid eighties for about ten years , coincided with Vincent O'Briens career tapering off and in jumping game anything half decent going to UK. The clas
