  1. Very interesting, good to see that interview. Sheldon and Luke are certainly a class above most others going around in the industry intellectually. Good to see a relative outsider like Luke who actually knows something about the industry being able to look at and understand the bigger picture. To often we get total outsiders with no knowledge of the industry at all brought in to provide the "fresh ideas", something that has never been successful to date.

  2. Sheldon Murtha & Luck Radich are a class above any Trackside presenters we have. Awesome to see both back on Trackside. Luke is a very smart individual and should be listened to. Maybe he should throw his hat in the ring to run NZ Racing? He has always had the passion and smarts for a top racing administrator!

    Te Aroha races

281 noms all up. To accommodate owners and trainers we will be carding 11 races with the two maiden 1400m races being split into 5 races meaning 80 maiden horses will be able to get a start. The maiden 1200m is also will split into two races as well as the R65 1400m meaning 64 horses getting a start for those races. Should be a busy day.

    Jacinda Ardern

Close analysis of her speech revealed the following: She believes that a country should put ” Global” interests before it’s own self-interest and economic wealth for the “collective” good and for the sake of the environment. Quote. There was a strong flavour of Socialism running through the entire speech. Quote. She spoke of building and sustaining international peace and security by defending an open, inclusive, and rules-based international order based on universal values (whatever those are.) In contrast with patriotic president Trump, prime minister Ardern did not appear to love her country or be proud of it because of its unique culture and values. Instead, she took pride in being part of a collective. Quote. I have mentioned the United Nations Agenda 21 and they also have a later agenda Agenda 2030. One relates to Globalisation and the other which is virtually the same for a country. Socialist Cindy is a Un disciple and over the past twelve months one can see she is following these agendas. This is very concerning indeed. Hence a poverty agenda, stopping of the oil and gas in Taranaki etc etc. have a listen.

  18. Come on Dave its just the way the world is going, a bit of self promotion. Would you like a Trumpian type figure? Do you want P0000per back? I am, pleased that Dani' feels safe to post on 'Cafe. If she stirred things up it would only excite trolls. Keep going young lady while you are comfortable. The upgraded site and the effort that Leigh has put deserves the support.

  19. The best thing that could happen would be competition or a major revamp! They took away phone betting, a major mistake, they had a minimum bet of $5 when it was in existence, a major mistake. Freeview went bush, a major mistake, taking away self service machines at a lot of venues, a major mistake! Not competitive in the commercial market, even though they hold a monopoly! The cost of running the TAB is out of control, where will it end?

  38. A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will commit $33 million towards Victorian thoroughbred prizemoney levels from 2019, supporting increases to minimum levels across the state. Racing Victoria will add a further $7m, taking the package to in excess of $40m should the Government be returned in November's state election. This has been designed to further drive continued local and international investment in Victorian thoroughbred racing and supporting jobs across the state. Martin Pakula, Victoria's Minister for Racing and Attorney-General, made the announcement at the launch of the 2018 Stella Artois Caulfield Cup Carnival on Wednesday night. The increases will be spread across all levels of thoroughbred racing with an emphasis on grassroots competition, which Pakula said generates more than $3 billion annually for the Victorian economy and supports the equivalent of 25,000 full-time jobs. Implemented from January 1, 2019, the package would boost minimum prizemoney levels for every racing category to the equal of anywhere in Australia. This includes lifting minimum prizemoney levels at Victoria's 170 country race meetings to $35,000 per race and $50,000 minimum prizemoney per race for mid-week metropolitan race meetings. Saturday metropolitan races for three-year-olds and staying races over 2000m or further will now be worth a minimum of $135,000, while there will be $125,000 minimum prizemoney per race for all other Saturday metropolitan races excluding pathway races. "It is really important that Victoria maintains its pre-eminence as the number one racing jurisdiction," Pakula said. RV Chairman Brian Kruger said that this commitment from the Andrews Labor Government was an outstanding result for the state. "We welcome this strong commitment from the Andrews Labor Government to strengthen their support of Victorian thoroughbred racing and importantly the 92,000 people that actively participate within our industry," Kruger said. "Victoria has long been regarded as the premier racing state in Australia and like the Andrews Labor Government we are committed to maintaining that position of primacy. "A vibrant and successful thoroughbred racing industry is great for Victoria. Enhancing returns to our owners, trainers, jockeys and breeders, particularly at the grassroots, is crucial to that. "Eighty per cent of our racing is conducted outside metropolitan Melbourne and this package would see minimum prizemoney increases at all country TAB meetings. "This continues the support for grassroots racing with increases already implemented this season for country non-TAB meetings. "Victoria is the home of the stayer, hosting 40 per cent of the nation's staying races including its most famous cups. "Through this prizemoney package we want to ensure that Victoria remains the destination to race a stayer or a three-year-old." Kruger will appear on After The Last on Racing.com free-to-air channels 78 and 68, Foxtel 529 and streamed on digital at 5:15pm AEDT on Thursday to discuss this announcement and other plans for the Victorian industry.

    Well done Waverley!

Was great to get to this course recently. Last Thursday saw some great racing and definitely some blackbookers to take away from their meeting. Yesterday saw a large contingent of horses for the jumpouts with runners hitting the line hard - something you cant see in the print in the now "compulsory" results from these events Well done to all involved. PS: best meat sandwiches of any course in NZ. Fact.

  41. How much have we missed Luke in the last ten years????!!!!!!!!!!!!! He spoke more sense in one hour than anyone ever has in his absence. George spoke with his usual "north of Taupo" bias that was littered with illogical calls. Luke actually "gets" racing. He is willing to listen to, combine, assess, and formulise ideas to do with the industry for the good of ALL. He can see through the crap as well - a quality that is part of the new Weigh In and why is has been more popular this time around.

    Kiwi Made

What is the definition of a NZ bred race dog? To me a true NZ bred is a dog born and raised to NZ parents in NZ. Some examples: Blitzing Mayhem - Vicki's Quest produced Tyson's Quest to win a C5 at Wanganui at its last start. Unfortunately, all the commentator wanted to crack on about after that win, was how the also-rans managed to lose. Shame on you. On Monday there were three truly NZ bred winners: Above All - Spot on Maggie produced All Black Star who progressed to C4. Kilchurn - Regal Dancer produced the promising racer Billy's Churn. 8 starts, 4 wins, 2 2nds, 1 3rd. Peking Tom - Dolly Scramble produced Lucha to head back to C3. These are just some examples of breeders breeding Kiwi's yet their efforts rarely get a mention. Is it not time to start talking these breeders up and rewarding them for actually legitimately flying the Kiwi Made Flag?

As I said before I used to post on here all the time, but felt like they weren't getting much attention so thought I'd try some where else. And I've also said that I have no preference over the 2 racing sites...I'm a racing fan and im supporting both sites...and I definitely won't be starting anything malicious.

    How Can This Continue

surely here is (part of) the problem. An awareness of the probability affecting Saturday races, but good enough for every other day of the week? http://www.stuff.co.nz/waikato-times/sport/8699635/Te-Awamutu-club-loses-Saturday-meetings From 5 years ago, but a club on a constrained and reducing budget trying to maintain race condition standards for a few race days each year.

    How Can This Continue

Short sighted. All weather isn't the answer unless you want all weather racing surfaces which generally is boring racing. The grass is not the cushion, although our idiot commentators would have you think differently. It's the humous and roots in the soil profile that are both the cushioning element and the anchor for the 5 tonne of horse purchase that is required. When they get off the chemical fertilisers, get the right grasses for stability and endurance and stop the incessant watering, we'll start to see an improvement of track conditions
