Well done to the club and its larger than life CEO for yesterday's successful event. Heard on the grapevine that on course turnover was over the million mark making it one if not the biggest betting days on NZ calendar Obviously aided by POTY and Riccarton being abandoned but good to see some good numbers for a change.

Short sighted. All weather isn't the answer unless you want all weather racing surfaces which generally is boring racing. The grass is not the cushion, although our idiot commentators would have you think differently. It's the humous and roots in the soil profile that are both the cushioning element and the anchor for the 5 tonne of horse purchase that is required. When they get off the chemical fertilisers, get the right grasses for stability and endurance and stop the incessant watering, we'll start to see an improvement of track conditions

napier bang on as usual. Course managers should ignore the dictates of the ignorant boffins. Instead they should talk to local farmers, bowling club curators and golf club green keepers who are experts at pasture management and growing grass. Of course this will not happen and so expect more abandonments.

  8. Yea am not sure how i feel about being in front with a number of races to go.Not really sure what my plan of attack is/has been.Try and pick consistently and throw in a couple of roughies and hopefully keep the points ticking over.Certainly an enjoyable comp to be a part of.

  9. I would like someone from NZTR to tell me how constructing 3 x 10 million all weather tracks is going to stop these type of abandonments , neither of these appear to be weather related , therefor i assume management related , i stand to be corrected if someone more informed than me wants to put me straight . Gobsmacked that after all the bad press over last 18 mths this SHITE is still happening . Gone from 5 horses to 2 in last 18 mths . Said i spend my money in Aussie after these 2 if things didn't improve and events like this weekend aren't making the decision a tough one .

  10. Tomorrow morning they are showing races from Greyville, in Durban, but the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe does rate a mention. The TAB's knowledge of world racing is matched only by my knowledge of nuclear physics, a subject upon which I am totally ignorant.

Pre 2000 clubs did not have OSH and H and S type responsibilities. If the RIU and/or club decided to carry on with a meeting after jockeys claimed the track had an issue should something happen thereafter all hell would break loose legally, It might be over the top PC stuff for the old timers but its the law of the land today

  20. Haha done that plenty of times myself Puha. Mind you we also had $13k ish after the last race at Hawkes Bay many years ago and ran second . The difference between first prize and second was enormous. We did use the travel prize to go to Vegas and rip it up though so wasnt complaining.

Bang on for the last 4 posts, when you run in the wet is it easier on long grass or short, trouble is the "boffins" (uni graduates) are brain washed into thinking they cannot be wrong (I know I have worked with them,).How many meetings have now been abandoned after 1 or 2 races,it never happened pre 2000 so why now???.How many people have traveled to those meetings & vow never to go racing again. We have to have all weather tracks or racing is dead or how about dirt tracks like the USA & pull all that grass up LOL.

  22. Not quite with Murtoa , it was due to Rabbits. Holes in the track and a runner injured itself in one after race 2.

Just CUT the grass so horses can get purchase on the soil, especially when there is some moisture? They talk about "cushion" and "plenty of grass cover" but thick swards of moist grass are very slippery.

Trackside coverage this morning dropped the link last 200m , but got back for replay of finish. Facebook has full replay.

  25. I believe Murtoa yesterday was a similar situation to NZ abandonments. NSW was just wet tracks. People who think synthetic tracks will make any significant difference are quite deluded. It just means that rather than a bunch of wet track specialists racing around midwinter at places like Matamata we will have a bunch of synthethic track specialists racing around at Cambridge or wherever; we aren't suddenly going to see the likes of Savy Coup racing around midwinter.

  30. I suggest you look up Natural Justice re time it takes for cases to be heard and matters resolved one way or the other. If you want to write stupid inane posts go for it but there's a few on here who might take exception and advise you to STFU and who could blame them IMHO

  34. Don't agree Ohoka , this will strengthen Trump , the damage has been done to the dems , it's self inflicted . I have no doubt Americans believe in natural justice and behind the scenes many demos can't be happy with guilt by accusation , when these radical women's movements attack a man with garbage they for get these men have mothers, sisters , daughters and ignore an important reality , women victims of crime have brothers , fathers and sons , everyone is effected which is why this whole degrading tactic by the dems can only have a negative impact on themselves . All trump has to do is keep hammering home the injustice of this whole situation and he's home in November , a quiet investigation into some of these baseless accusers would help as well .

  36. Just watched the 4th from Hastings. Seems Tony Lee mostly interested in the run of the runner-up ( "green, work in progress"etc excuses) as it was ridden by "Jonathan" and Tony's bestie the jockey's agent Sweeney. The well deserved win by Langkawi seemed to be secondary in their eyes. Not unusual in NZ though. George has also been embedded with the Logan/Gibbs stable for too long although he has recently rectified the balance with Donna moving to Singapore. JMO and I know in a small pool familiarity can hinder professionalism, not just in racing.

Nothing is new.I was a regular attender at Alexander Park for many years, till I saw Miss Ghana being pulled up so hard the horses head was side ways looking at us in the stand. It was favourite and it's stablemate won. That night I stopped punting on harness racing and many of the group I was with did too.
