What's with this "weighted out of South Island" comment you carry the same weight as per your rating right throughout NZ its the same scale. If you win races you get penalised. SOZ was only rated 84 prior to his last win 11 rating points below the top weight = 5.5 kgs that's why he had 54.5kg Its not hard to work out in fact all ratings and weight scale is listed under rules and regulations on NZTR Website YOU DO NOT GET GIVEN MORE WEIGHT BECAUSE ITS SOUTH ISLAND UNLESS YOU ARE THE BEST/HIGHEST RATED HORSE IN A RACE By the way I feel gutted for Kevin and Pam they are really good people who would have been looking forward to racing at Flemington

  4. Hero's Major wins maiden first-up off nearly five-year spell By David Hocking 3 hours ago https://www.punters.com.au/news/horse-wins-maiden-off-five-year-spell_170769/ Hero's Major appears to be peaking as a 10-year-old Persistence paid off for 10-year-old galloper Hero's Wager, who broke his maiden status after nearly five years off the scene in an action-packed second event at Mountaineer's Park on Tuesday (AEST). The milestone win was even more sensational given what unfolded in the run to the judge... Three-year-old colt Veritzi had taken over upon straightening and looked a key hope until his saddle slipped, dislodging hoop Kevin Gonzalez at the 250m and scuppering any chances the pair had of claiming victory. That threw the race wide open and Hero's Wager ($17), under the urgings of Ricardo Barrios, finished too strong for his nine rivals - including the riderless Veritzi - to post a 1.75L win over Sully's Folly ($4) with favourite Pointer ($1.20) a neck away in third. And it wasn't just the horse that tasted success for the first time, with the result delivering trainer Ted Randolph his first career victory. Four trainers had previously tried - and failed - with Hero's Wager and it was Randolph who finally delivered with the son of Partner's Hero. Hero's Wager may be long in the tooth but he isn't exactly a seasoned campaigner, having had only 14 starts in his six-year career, 13 of which occurred between June 2012 and October 2013. His record now stands at 14:1-1-0. No one knows how things would have panned out if misfortune hadn't scuppered the chances of Veritzi, but for a previously winless trainer to prepare a 10-year-old horse to win its first race off a 1737-day layoff is nothing short of extraordinary - even if the breaks went their way. The Thoroughbred Daily News reported that Veritzi's rider Kevin Gonzalez didn't have to attend hospital, despite losing his helmet soon after hitting the ground. Yet again racing has thrown up some extraordinary scenes with an action-packed race delivering a milestone win for horse and trainer. In summary: Horse claims maiden at ripe old age of 10 Said horse turns out to be first-up off a near five-year spell (1737 days) The win also happens to be the trainer's first success And all of which may not have occurred if Veritzi's saddle didn't slip Only one of Hero Wager's nine rivals had been born when he last took to the track You've gotta love horse racing...

"What could happen if a horseupsets him? I believe he is likely to lash out and ill-treat the animal." This is the only comment I was referring to, suggest you read again if you can't understand that! Not once did I say his rants were ok, again have another read! Never said the last part either, can you read at all? I do wonder. Seeing as you like facts and English lessons, here is how your comment I was referring to is what I said it was. Profiling = The use of personal characteristics or behavior patterns to make generalizations about a person, Prejudiced = Preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. Did you see or know that Bronson has lashed out and Ill-treated a horse??? Just because I abuse another driver for cutting me off does not mean I am going lash out at him! Bronson has made some poor choices, but as you rightfully said Taku, referring to "They" and "Both sides" Is saying he wasn't the only one carrying on like an idiot. An all round poor performance from two - three of our best Junior Drivers. But let's not forget, that's exactly what they are! Not everyone is perfect and they are still learning their craft. Do you think they will learn from this? $1.01 they will. Why? Because they love the industry, the people in it and most of all the horses! If you don't believe that then just read the profiles of our Jnr Drivers from the champs and see what drives them, who their mentors are etc! Now do as a Janitor does, mop up the dribble and keep things clean!

  8. I was involved in coaching Netball for over 30 years, retiring at National Age Group competition level. I have taught at both secondary and primary schools and coached three other codes. I held various coaching qualifications as well as being a qualified sports medic so I have earned the right to have a say. In my time I have witnessed many changes. Three that stand out as detrimental to many sports are as follows: 1. The revamping of national championship competitions which reduced the number of areas able to compete at national competition level. Extremely talented kids continue to miss out as they are never seen and never receive the coaching or finance they need. 2. The introduction of Kiwi Sport at primary school level which put the emphasis on taking part has been detrimental in more ways than one. The no winners, no losers philosophy introduced across the country does not promote healthy competition and does not equip our kids for the future failures that they will inevitably experience once the duvet is removed. I see a link to this philosophy and the high youth suicide rate. Kiwi Sport was in part meant to be our response to child obesity, it failed. 3. The abolition of the 5-day working week has significantly reduced the coaching pool, again talent has been lost across the codes because of work commitments. Ask any club and they will tell you that they are struggling to find staff in all areas. I feel for any coach that puts their name forward in this current environment. If they find themselves at odds with any individual or admin, they are pretty much doomed. Players who have been conditioned over time are often reluctant to embrace change and can work to garner support for their view. It's about culture, a word used often in sport. It only takes one to topple all.

  9. If you're racing on Wednesday or Friday and need to trial a dog in between then Sunday is ideal being either three or five days prior whereas Thursday is either a day after or a day before - no consideration at all for a proper training regime. The same goes if you need to trial a dog twice in a week e.g: breaking in, coming back from spell, getting fit, etc. then Wednesday and Sunday is ideal.

  10. OK cheers Scooby , however still a tough gig the triple crown, followed the yank stuff for donkeys years from days of Ferdinand and Alysheba battles in early 80s , a lot of horses don't see light of day after triple crown races or end up boxing round in 5k claimes at likes of Finger Lakes , but totally agree with you it's a fact horses get injured anytime any place . Some bounce through it like American Pharaoh and go on with it. No way at all I was trying to have dig connections and only view of minority owners opinion reported in Post that Justify won't race again

Good post E. The White Ferns have just gone through the same thing. At least the NZF CEO had the sense to "retire" before the inevitable enquiry, but you have to question the competence of both Boards here, who were responsible for, and approved, the hiring in the first place. Jennie Wylie certainly has a few questions to answer, but probably won't. I see she was Head of Finance previously, so people management might not be her strongsuit.....

Prejudiced profiling? What does that mean? My comments were not prejudiced as I was stating facts. Fact one: Mr Munro was banned from rugby for 46 weeks for a "racial insult" to a Fijian player during a rugby match. Fact two: Mr Munro abused two female drivers during and after a race at Forbury Park. He has pleaded guilty to the offence. You may think that Mr Munro's racist and misogynist rants are OK but I do not. His behaviour in both incidents is indefensible and wrong. Now we have a further claim from Taku Umanga (see above) that after the incident on the track they were "driving horses into each other". If this is true, using horses as a weapon is abuse of the animal so my fears are correct. Having a "competitive nature" does not give one the right to racially abuse people or insult women. I suggest you head back to the beach, dig a hole and stick your head into it where it belongs.

I feel that there is a place for both paper print and digital/social media, and agree with Liz that it is a bad decision as their stallions are not there for many breeders to see. Has anyone received a brochure from Westbury in the mail, or are they only trusting on breeders to be subscribe to their social media pages or email list?

  17. As for Te Akau, don’t apprentices go to the next level when they leave there! Look at Jasmine Fawcett. Struggled to get rides whilst there and look at her now. Te Akau should stick at what they know best, training horses, not mentoring apprentices.
