How did we let this happen?

I have been almost overwhelmed in recent times by the sudden changes happening to our constition and rules. I'll bet I am not the only one that may not be fully aware of the detail and intention in many implementations. How did we the members let this happen without a whimper ? At the last AGM gone by lunchtime became a reality. No discussion or remits , no chance to make the feeling of the participants known. The removal of the licensed members representative gone with the stroke of a pen . We are now run by head office with more staff than ever before, most not from within the industry who go about deciding what is set in stone for the participants without any input or discussion from the participants. The anonyms board members who we do have some influence over appear to be mere box tickers for the new brigade from outside the industry. That point actually makes me wonder what the role of the elected members actually is. During the Paul Connor era it was stated that the elected representatives should be seen to be representing all the clubs in their area's, and must have regular contact with all the clubs in their area Can someone from Otago or Southland clubs tell me if the Southern representative carries this duty out as was expected of Paul. Do all of the rest of the clubs get attendance at meetings from their elected reps? I remember many years ago being at an AGM when a remit from the executive was tabled to say that the executive should be able to change rules as needed because it was too cumbersome waiting for an AGM as was required. I immediately thought that reasonable but my old sparring partner Brian Hunt representing Taranaki jumped to his feet and thumped the desk forcefully telling everyone (as he is want to do) that it would be a very dangerous step to take where the members lose the little control they had over their own destiny. How right you were Brian

James is back and watched his rides today and without doubt the best rider in this part of the world. Not knocking Hugh Bowman who is a great jockey but someone,Dont know who rated him the worlds best.I doubt he would have that accolade without Winks whom even I could win on.Chris Waller who is probably one of the best trainers in the world hasn't wasted time in getting James on and that paid divis today. My interest in Sydney racing is back

  3. Boris remembered the great Geoff Mahoney race cours commentator at Royal Randwick after The Greatest EVER ken Howard stuffed up the Doncaster and derby anh he took over the job with a voice like a ecolution teacher when he called the 1972 ? AJC derby the horses left the straight 4 the first time and he called Gold Deck...... Gold Dick, the laughter was louder than Boris’s a o tee oh rower shirt, n0?

  4. Great to see him riding today. Welcome back J Mac. 2 wins, 1 second, 1 third.

  5. Has a full book of 9 rides at Rosehill on Saturday... 4 for Waller and 1 each for Snowden, Ryan and a "lesser known" trainer of Matthew Dunn. But also riding 1 each for Gavenlock and Pepper.... who.??? Not something he could have probably done when riding for Goldolphin but I bet those 2 trainers are absolutely over the moon to get James's services and win, loose or draw then get great feedback on the horse. Well done James and his agent...

  7. Paper is tangible real and has a soul . Interesting that my daughter dislikes how teachers and her school are using computers and tablets In preference to pens pencils and paper.

  8. Psyc You certainly can use your computer. On which you can view the same regurgitated stories that come from the Racing Desk and NZTM. The newspapers are lazy and print what is given to them by others, the Racing Desk and NZTM. The Informant does actually make news, provides perspectives via letters and their own correspondents. Their information is widely used in Australian media, paper, radio and TV. In my view, it is much more interesting to read fresh and interesting stories, rather than what is available on the NZTR and NZTM who I believe are under resourced for such publications. A number of online publications charge for their information, because it costs money to generate it. So you do have to charge to recover expenses. The way your note is written, it sounds like you are looking for a free lunch. Gen X I imagine. cheers

  9. Great to read the list of 47. Interestingly, 8 of the top 10 were from the South Island, and 5 of those horses raced only in the South Island from memory, where there were very few, if any, mid week meetings. Cheers. Robert.

    The Rocks!!! Wow

If you really followed the states racing you would know that both Boston red rocks and wakazachi Hanover were 2-3 years passed there best. BBR was a very nice 2yo and hasn't delivered since. You may not be aware he has only won 1 race since 2016. Personally I hope he turns it around for his" new trainer" WH while he was 1 of the top 3yo of his year he has never carried that on as an older horse. Last year he was racing way down in the classification system trying to regain his form. I had hoped he was turning it around with a win 2 weeks ago but not by the way he went at Chester on Sunday. Also western fame has been following the better ones around his whole career. Thought maybe another year older he might have strengthened up but was poor after his early burn on Sunday. this series continues on Saturday at poco on. No heaven rocks a but there is a couple of better horses lining up. Dr j Hanover and Mach it so. In saying that Mach it so has waited his whole career for all the good ones to retire and last year as a 8yo he finally looked the goods. Just lucky no more ABM or WIJI around. and if you really followed states racing you would realise that all eyes would be on the PAss that night were the real good horses are in action.

    The Rocks!!! Wow

So you are calling me a liar. Sounds like you think any horse that can break 50 is a great horse. So any trainer that has a claimer that can break 50 has wrongly classified the horse. I would love to see you tell those trainers how they have no idea. i thought I would name nemisis as it should have been well known to any nz harness racing fan but it was obviously above your simple mind. Here is a list of this years sub 50 performers. Take out shartin and filibuster h plus a couple of others in there that go ok. There is a lot of very average horses in there who would be very non competitive in stake races. How would you like to own ghost pine? 8k in 7 starts manage to break 50 and not even close to earning your keep. Maple, is that all you got??? I did say and ask alot more, but if you just want a scrap I'm more than willin to oblige! you know you really shouldn't go gettin your undies in a knot like that it'll make yuh talk funny!!!! oh an keep taking the white pills mate, big glass of water, an breathe it out yeh, breeaaattthhhe it out, for chrissakes......US site is fine for lookin up entries/results etc but for past racing history etc etc gawdsakes specially when unfamiliar with site, but, since you made initial statements and clearly find the site is so easy, obviously very familiar with it, then how bout you post (cos I noticed you never answered questions) all of these 'plenty of average horses goin in 49' in here so we can all see, yeh?? you named 1!!!.....and for your info where did I mention horses goin in 49 or less are 'Stars', all I'm sayin is that's a bloody good time 1.49.4 hell anything under 1.50 has gotta be great, wish I had an 'average horse' who could do that on a fricken sloppy track!! let alone a good track, and given The Rocks can be a handful hey I'm lovin he ran good time, simple! GOOOO! The Rocks...... Iraklis

  15. I use online and paper. My informant or Best Bets ends up looking like a 5 year old got hold of it with my ratings down the side, brief notes for horses, opening fixed odds down the far margin etc etc - much of the info obtained from watching videos or reviewing old form on line. Much easier for me to then spend an afternoon watching the races on TV, on track at the pub wherever with everything I need (plus racing colours etc) at my fingertips. And I do bet via my ph or laptop mostly. I like the trackwork and articles etc as well - so one old fogey it still works for

  21. The Racing side of the Tab gets in the way of the real profit, clubs need to find some method of self sufficiency because these people running the show aren’t Racing enthusiasts, the racing experience is more than just getting your money on,only my opinion , something these overpayed underperforming bean counters won’t get.Another nail in the coffin
