    John Allen's latest "conversations"....

Go back and read a recent article in the Informant which set out John Messiahs view of NZ racing and the direction we should take. The headline read 'start with a blank piece of paper" and create a Racing Act relative to these times and technology. Codes wise he favoured separate administrations controlling their own destiny and not a collective. It was a very thought provoking and constructive interview from an administrator with a proven track record. Read it.

    Worst punting track.

I must admit Wanganui is a lot more predictable. Just stick to the one trainer and you are in the money Bigtime

Sadly, I am in total disagreement. The Owners are important, very important.

Surprised there was no investigation made by the nzgra or riu into how someone managed to falsify the papers. Seems strange.

If you couldn't find Baxstreet Boy, Dark Princess & Sweepstake on the punt in those fields you shouldn't be punting. W Would you really have backed Ozil off a jump out win in that field?

Speaking of speed in the race, the Japanese horse, Ambitious has broken two minutes for 2000m four times (yes, I understand they run their races differently over there) - after a nice run for second over the 2400m of the Tancred last start, he could be the smokey...

The 2003 Racing Act is outdated and unfit for purpose. That it is where changes must occur to give each code its optimum opportunity to thrive.

Does it not concern you that Messara is only a Gallops man. Also, have the Ozzies been of great assistance to NZ racing when put in postions of authority? Appointing him to do the review as well as mentioning the 2003 Racing act in the same Pres release should be sending alarm bells to both Standardbred and Greyhound codes. I'll stick my neck out now and say that in time its going to be a free for all with each code going there own way and the NZRB being downsized and not running the abysmal show they are now with their monopoly.

Good luck with the mare she is bloody honest and if the great mare was to be beaten by a kiwi owned horse lets hope its yours...anyway run in the first 5 is better than winning a Group 1 prize money wise in NZ.

    Winx OUT !!

Firstly, the fucking ball tampering underarm sandpaper artists are at it again, they’ve had the sprinklers on every day this week, presumably for that very good NZ bred mare who’s trained by the very good NZer, Chris Waller. But let me tell you this. The Australian media are arrogant, borderline smug about her chances here, and pride comes before a fall. Bowman rides her like a drunk on a pushbike anyway, so she’s going to travel 30m further than the rest of them. You might be able to do that on wet tracks against second rate horses but this ain’t wet, and these horses against her aren’t second rate. Secondly she’s in a race with three go forward pace makers, so they’ll go a decent gallop and runabout 2.01 for the 2000m. She’s never got close to that in her life although if Hughie ever rode her near the rail she might be able to run 2.01 Thirdly, Waller is giving it to her in training. She went to Randwick last Saturday and galloped really hard between races, like a G1 sprinter, then he’s reported to have given her another hard gallop Tuesday. That suggests she’s in 1400-1600 mode and they’re trying to take the top off her, get some speed out of her legs and get her to relax. Plenty late enough to be trying that four days out from a critical G1 race I’d have thought.. Tomorrow her world comes crashing down, they’ll go hard and the horse that does no work in the run but who can round the race off will win....it’ll be a NZ owned horse ......

The point is some would have backed Ozil if the heat was visible, won good money and re-invested, and that is the name of the game isn't it- turnover. Instead, Trackside viewers find out a few minutes before the race it has gone ok in the Jumpouts, a little too late for those invested in the early quaddie. More punters get frustrated with the lack of basic information and look elsewhere to invest their spare money. Melbourne have got their act together here with updated vision of jumpouts. The philosophy should be ' If the information can give punters an excuse to invest, then find a way to show it.' Something akin to Hong Kong where they know the importance of doing just that. Racing.com now have the interviews with the winning riders after most races added on to the replays- that doesn't cost much to do but the information must be generating punter confidence and turnover.

    Maternal families & breeding blog

Coming from a different philosophy (not theory or system) and Encouraged by some international interest to my TBL pedigree blogging posts www.thethoroughbredlink.com , thought it was high-time to put it down here! Its primed upon importance of maternal families and engaging the female family tables so it might be of interest to a few who apply these for breeding in their own right. i.e. not commercial sale. Food for thought and all that. Enjoy. Also on FB - The Thoroughbred Link. Cheers.
