  1. I wasn't casting aspersions - I agree he is. Rather I was saying I cannot recall ever seeing an established trainer line up so many horses on one day which are new to the stable.... especially when they are coming in from England, HK and the North Island

    Appearance Money

On Catching pen the NSWGA have just put more money in to the pocket of the people who bring the Greyhounds that put on the entertainment. Now our GOVERNMENT have just told us they are going to put petrol up. It is time the GRANZ put back money on the 7th and 8th.They got $1/2m from the RB after a year long wait from the court case. Now it is going to cost more for people to get their vehicle to the track. Bev

  3. Messing with tradition hasnt really worked here in NZ. Possibly the Derby is the only race that this has helped, a bit more time for these horses to mature to cope with the 2400m.

    Waipuk Jump outs

The results from the jump outs a fortnight ago were submitted to NZTR as required. The results from today will be typed up and sent through tomorrow Note that there have never been results for any Awapuni jump outs ever? Brings up an interesting point though. There is no format required for these in the information required from NZTR. They don’t require riders to be listed, or times to be taken, so one horse could have the heavy stable track rider on and another a jockey with a 20 kg swing in the weights. They are very subjective in their interpretation

  5. This poor sod lost his career because of these lying little toerags. You might have expected a little more support from a school after 27 years, but apparently not.... And they wonder why men are in such short supply as teachers...... http://home.nzcity.co.nz/news/article.aspx?id=266964&fm=psp,tsf

And that's how it should be Puha. Costs need to be kept down for owners. A simple thing like posting the last 400 metres of jumpouts I'm sure would increase turnover which is going to in turn increase returns to owners. At the moment I know it must be reducing turnover. If we can do a lot of little things that aren't going to cost a lot of money, then collectively we are all better off. Remember when we had poor quality replays of races and trials - no last 600 metres? That has all changed now and things like that all give punters the info they need to have the confidence to have a bet and hopefully win and keep turning it over with a bit left over to keep the wife happy.

Really jimbob? Questioning the conditioning of RH Adcock..? I too would've liked to see a little more from him last 2 starts, but on the evidence of those runs, if he's pulled up OK and 'the master' chooses to proceed then I reckon he'll make the silver collar final. Goodluck Ray and RTB!

I say well done to TVNZ - sure they not the Olympics but at least you have 3 different events to watch. You guys would soon belly ache if Trackside reduced to 1 channel and only showed all Aussie Racing - and maybe the last 100 metres of the main race in NZ. Crusty, it's the same old story - if you don't like it, don't watch it. Afterall it's free-to-air which means we wont get the Sky treatment - endless replays!!

    Waipuk Jump outs

Which really does give punters a lack of confidence betting on CD races, especially maiden and R65 races. Just look at Levin's last Jumpout on March 14- about 130 horses went round and with no vision available, how does a punter assess the form properly? There have been numerous cases in the last few months of horses winning after placing in Jumpouts. I'd suggest, many have just given up and look elsewhere where they have more confidence in the form. Problem could easily be solved by NZTR making it a requirement to video the last 400m with even a cell phone, which would be quite adequate, if running any jumpouts. Then there's a handy site called Youtube some punters may have heard about to be able to view them on.

  18. Not quite true - we sponsored a race at Nelson Trots a couple of years ago named after our great pacer Chankai who had his first win on the course

  19. Very true but I did say "just now" and that was shown in the way Paddy went past Craig's best in both heat and final. However, I have heard that AA may not have been at his best and I see he has been scratched from today's meeting. Nothing serious I gather but a niggle is a concern at the elite level. Speaking of which, what a line-up at 6.56 this evening at Addington! There are many ifs and buts when choosing your picks in that one. A field job, perhaps, to start the quaddie?

  20. Tradition has never really been respected or appreciated in NZ racing, especially not in recent years. Every week we see races in Australia with time honoured names, and races named after famous horses. In NZ most of our races tend to have locality names, Auckland Cup etc. Very few names like The Stradbroke, in NZ. Some races had prestige through their name rather than the stake, but most have now been let to disappear; Haldon Plate at Riccarton, McLean Stakes at Wingatui, even the Chalmers at Trentham - I know it still exists in name only. I am always appalled that there are no races in the SI named after Grey Way, Show Gate, Phar Lap etc. That would never ever happen in Australia. Canterbury Belle is probably the only SI horse to be recognised in "recent" years.

I general I agree Chris - but I do think the move to put the Great Northern to the end of the jumps season was a sensible one.

With the favourite being scratched your chances were probably enhanced Barry and if not your horse's chance of winning remained the same as before , they were certainly not downgraded. In the latter scenario the chances of Opie winning the jockey's challenge were seriously reduced. What did the bookies push his odds out to win after it was announced he only had the three rides left? I bet they blew right out. What they should have done is refund the original bets under the stand alone option, recalculate the odds under the jockey challenge option and if punters thought that he could still win then they could back him again at the new, higher odds. I'm picking very few would have backed up.
