You have plenty to say on your first day. Just sort your spelling, grammer and break your sentences up...those commas make it awfully hard to read.

Give those presenters a break you lot. Jayne Ivil copped a ton of flack here yet is now an star in Victoria and as for critizing their selections well I consider those people to be no more knowledgeable than I am myself so never listen(not hat I claim to be any sort of judge just a mug like everyone else). Dufficy doesn't tip the card every week as far as I know even though he is entertaining. As for the Fahey girl's clothing down south well it looked perfectly acceptable to me. Anyone with wives and daughters who like dress shops would be totally accustomed to that type of gear. NZ racing has a bloody sight bigger problem than who the Trackside presenters are and what they say. Liz Whelan is a loss however

Good 2 . Shower of rain at 8a.m. End of the penny section. NZ Racing is at top of the podium for the most dysfunctional racing jurisdiction in the world. Our failed stallions sometimes end up in places like Turkey or the Chatham Islands. Pity our administrators don’t finish up their as well.

The one aspect I don't understand about coverage particularly on massive days like yesterday at Trentham is why they don't have someone on the day who is an experienced horse person i.e. retired horse trainer or jockey, someone who has been there and done that. The rugby and league shows seem to be able to use these ex players to get a better inside insight into their sports than racing does. No criticism of the presenters though , they have a very hard job to do, most stuff off the cuff and some times talking to people who don't want to be interviewed and you simply cannot criticise anyone for poor tipping as that isn't an easy gig by any stretch of the imagination especially in NZ. I admire Rodleys enthusiasm for this great sport,he appears to truly love the game as much as many of us here do.

Over the years the Pitman team has re-jigged the career of many a N.I horse...and no, I'm not pissing in your pocket Pitty, you and I can agree to disagree on many topics. But it must give you an enormous buzz to take a former has-been back north and win with it. The hair stands up on the back of my neck every time some N.I trainer says glibly ' oh, it'll be ok down there, not good enough for here..'

Agree she was very good I thought, SI racing is a hard sell at the best of times she sounded quite enthusiastic about it.

  12. I have never stated that they don't, all the GAP volunteers and foster carers I know do an amazingly job, can't fault them. I am purely stating there is something wrong when there isn't an available greyhound in the entire Sth Island ready for adoption when we know there are plenty out there waiting for a couch to retire to.

  13. It's always good to have some (free) user testing! The tote system was designed to be pretty simplistic, so you might see a completely different format not involving tote odds next time. Stay tuned.

    Ben Hope Rulz

Firstly this is my first post on here. Ben has learnt from this drive!! He has, as he does every drive, watched the replay hundreds of times and discussed with us in detail what he did wrong, and what he will now do in the future. Ben does feel for the connections of Laytons Lass. Both Ben and I dont agree with the rule and Ben thinks his fine, which he is paying himself btw, should be paid to the owners of the affected horse in this situation. Ben's whole life is his driving, when he make a mistake he knows it and is the first one to admit it. He is young and learning and the only way we learn is when we make a mistake. He is hard enough on himself without the likes of Who Knows and Richie knocking him on a public forum. Before you want to knock a young kid learning in an industry he loves more than anything, just think how it affects him!!! I believe all the mistakes he could make on a racetrack would pale in compare to a grown man rubbishing a kid under a fake name on a public forum .......

  18. Oh shit. Allan won the first Harness comp of Bruce's I was in. An astute harness picker, and always seemed a gentleman going by his measured posts. At 65 I count my blessings for everyday of life. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Go well Allan.

    Woodville Gone Today

This meeting was traditionally held at Trentham on this Monday for as long as I can remember! I cant go back prior to the Second World War. The decision to remove it was the Dates Committee of the NZRB who think the old timers were wrong and that betting would be much improved by moving it. You see they have all sorts of “models” that they use to arrive at a decision, then they go to the clubs and say, “we are moving this date to such and such because we know best”. What they forget is that the old timers new about weather patterns, tracks that were still safe irrespective of the weather or irrigation because of positive camber etc. See what fools they are and how foolish we were to give all the authority to the young university graduates of the NZRB lead by Bankers, Postmen etc.

  20. Very sorry to hear that Maria - thanks for letting us know. Thoughts & prayers with him and his family. You're right, that is way too young. Had a good friend pass away just before Christmas aged 54. I'm not that far away from that age, so you're exactly right - carpe diem!

  21. Hi everyone, I'm sorry to have to pass on some sad news to you all. Alan (Osceola) who took part in many of these wonderful comps over many many years, I think he was in the first one ever held, and who also was an avid fan of harness in the deep south, has passed away. Some of you that I'd spoken to in the past may have known that he has had a brain tumor for some years now, which had gone into remission, but unfortunately over recent months the diagnosis wasn't good and he has been in a care home, hence his absence. A kind and lovely man. He was only 53, far too young. It shows us all that life is for living whilst we can still breathe in the air. RIP Al baby.

  24. Im a bit lost at the single mindeness...i think you will find it is failed nz bred pups filling gap more than imports...our lack of breaking in facilities is causing this....as ive said and will say it again why dosnt grnz set up on the back of the levin kennels a designated break in track.with a emploed trainer who could train up and coming trainers on site...be a intresting breakdown to find out how many nz bred pups turn up at gap not chasing or poorly broken in compared to aussie imports...

  37. I will probably be made to regret this post but the Tony Lee calling now is not the Tony Lee of old. This is not a personal attack on Tony I'm certain he is a really good guy, but have noticed of late that he seems to get "lost" for names (Race 4 on the first day at Wellington is one such example).I so used to enjoy his calling and for the most part still do but somehow it is just not the same. This is not meant to turn into a lets beat up on Tony Lee just my thoughts given that for the most part I just listen to races not watch them.

  41. In the future, If these races were for only New Zealand bred and owned dogs, you would probably find there would be 8 heats. People are not interested in getting their heads kicked in by the hot Aussie dogs any longer. But if the New Zealand breeder knew that there was an incentive to race in the group races, you would probably find that the betting on them would be better and the competition very even, instead of it being a one sided exhibition on who has the fastest import. Lets make the industry a New Zealand based industry where we are all on a level playing field and at least have the opportunity to race in good races. As well as making it a fair go for all, the money goes back into our Industry, as we all continue to breed and sell for a fair price. Unless we start thinking to the future, there may be no future?

  45. Thanks to everyone who had a go at my little maths exercise, with a problematic UI The tote is now closed, so it's just a matter of following the results, rejoicing in all the bizarre dividends, and distracting yourself fron the impending Draft... And it's a very bizarre start with Supera coming out victorious. She was left pretty much alone on the tote paying $460.50! 46. Like it or not GAP is the face for the re-homing of greyhounds. For those not involved in the industry many are unaware of other smaller, private re-homers. I gave this family in particular the details for Hounds 4 Homes who are smaller, non-funded rehomers, this family they had never heard of any other re-homers other than GAP. Im aware that the Amberley kennel is also a boarding kennel, but for there to be ZERO dogs at the kennel available for adoption is just abysmal, I'm not sure when they were intending to get more dogs in, maybe there is just not much incentive to take the greyhounds in a decent amount of time. Maybe other options are needed to be looked at in regards to the Sth Island dogs, I know one trainer who has 15 dogs on the GAP list waiting to go in, many other people just cannot afford to hold onto so many dogs for so long so what is the alternative? With all the issues going on in regards to welfare and re-homing of dogs, this should be one of the top priorities, I hope no one out there is out looking for a greyhound to adopt in the Sth Island any time soon ( and people are!)as I don't know how long it will be until the next one is available, well at least at GAP kennels anyway.

  47. I am surprised at the lack of recognition accorded Reon Murtha in this thread. He was an excellent commentator and my favourite caller from the immediate yesteryear. Age wearies all commentators but, like boxers, they tend to stay beyond their days of excellence. This makes it hard to objectively rate callers in hindsight. All the best. Ashoka
