TeRapa Hizzy and that was bullshit. In this day and age, all the information that is out there, punters can make their own judgement call and don’t bother listening to the so called informed opinions. I always give an honest appraisal, but my owners come first, as they pay the bills.10 points -

Thank you Brian for a first-rate performance doing the scoring today, and in particular updating for us after every race. Superb. Thank goodness guys like you and John step in so admirably for PJ. I feel bad I can't take a turn as well but I have absolutely no ability with spreadsheets and simply couldn't do the job to anywhere near the standard that PJ, John and you do. Thanks again, Brian.9 points -

Yes, it does make you wonder Robert. I have a small share in a trotter, but that is as far as it goes. Graeme Stiles is a pretty competent guy, and I am sure he wouldn’t have wanted the meeting not to go ahead, You do have it over us in a lot of ways, all weather tracks being the main one, but your leaders had a bit more foresight than ours over the last 30 years, but in saying that, Cambridge Harness doesn’t get the fields like they used to and Alexandra Park seem to get all the favours, would this be right? We are so far behind in infrastructure, and I doubt we can ever catch up, it is alright saying courses have to close, but how it it that Ellerslie closes down over the winter period and it is meant to be our flagship course? A patch up job is on the way, will this see us racing there 12 months of the year, I doubt it. You don’t see the 4 metropolitan tracks close down through winter in Melbourne, the trainers would be in an uproar. We are very much a splintered group here in NZ, every section has their own agenda and this is not helping us to unite and fight the battle against our diminishing product. 20 years ago you would have never have seen 4 nominations for a maiden 1200 at Ellerslie on a Saturday. Dwindling foal crops, horsed sold from the sales, privately or being sent off shore by NZ owners is another concern. Sad, but true and until this is addressed and John Allan gets a wriggle on, this is going to be the norm. Fancy not being able to present a balance sheet at the recent Roadshow/ Sideshow........ One young fellow from the audience provided more information than the heirachy, and was asked afterwards by one official, where did you get your information from, as we don’t make that information public knowledge anymore. Does the right hand not know what the left hand is doing down in Wellington? Seems a bit like it! Robert, I will stick to my code, but gee it is getting harder to support the powers to be that are supposedly running it!6 points -

I have heard Mr Pitman on occasions label a horse a certaintly only for it to run poorly. Surely that does just as much harm to more people. Crozier's horse did pay almost $45 so there was hardly a plunge on it. I imagine the trainer was more surprised by the result than most punters. I'm sure he doesn't deserve abuse after having a surprisingly good day at the races.4 points -

napier and 3 others reacted to Tauhei Notts for a topic
That Graeme Styles at Matamata is possibly NZ's best course caretaker. He is in shock at the abandonment decision, and rightfully so. Just to add insult to injury, two hours after the abandonment, and with party time people at the races, the on course screens were still showing the abandonment rather than Riccarton odds. I am convinced that NZRB and their TAB staff have a much better knowledge of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi than they know about running a betting business. They cannot comprehend that genuine punters want to bet on gallopers, not poker machines that bark or thieves on wheels. This abandonment might just be the straw that breaks the camel's back. One horse slipped less than 15 centimetres with a hind leg, not a front leg, and that horse was so scratchy in its preliminary that anything could have happened.4 points -

I thoughts on that is that too much money is being given to the Prem clubs and the industry clubs are struggling because they are running race meetings and the cost to both is around the samebut what they get from NZTR is alot different. 30g compared to 50-60g and no share of the tote like the bigger meetings. If you look at Elleslie for example on Saturday the fields were alot smaller than what was scheduled for Matamata to day but because of the grading system that is in place Elleslie will get more money than what Matamata would get. Can you tell me that Ellselie needs more money to prepare their track compared to Matamata as it is obvious the answer is no. Track preperation cost the same no matter whether you race on a mid week meeting or a saturday meeting so perhaps the stucture needs to change3 points

Just wondering how the track can be rated Good3, then with no rain it is dangerous to race on??? especially as the bend had not been negotiated. Stipe interviewed on Trackside said nothing about an irrigation malfunction causing an obvious "soft spot" so maybe it was one of the vagaries of racing (and life) where a misstep was taken. Horses slip over running around in their paddocks FFS. Next thing they will abandon when a strapper is head-butted or stood-on by a horse deeming it an unsafe practice to try and control the noble beast.3 points

My earlier comment about Lazarus's main competition being the track turned out to be pretty much right, except that it gave too much credit to the track. I should have had more faith. The ease with which Lazarus won meant the race didn't have the drama of last year's, but it's always a pleasure to see a true champion in action. The toughness of Gammalite combined with the brilliance of Christian Cullen.2 points -

Strained a muscle in my shoulder prising the Challenge Shield off the boardroom wall at Mighty Blues HQ. Wasted effort, as new champ and shield-holder Pete put it straight back up on the wall at ...you guessed it .....Mighty Blues HQ. Sooner or later , most likely much later, we'll be letting someone else play with the Challenge Shield. But just like the mainland cheese ...these things take time you know. Meantime just leave it in our Mighty Blues capable hands. Thanks very much for doing the scoring today, John. Much Appreciated. These my selections will run the nine quinellas today at Trentham :- R1 2 - Gift of Power Plenty of upside, nicely weighted, CWJ doing the steering, what's not to like. 4 - Celebratedachiever G&D Rogerson quinella to kick off the day. Will give the fav plenty to think about. R Elliot in good form. R2 5 - Katiem Marie A horse on the rise, well-weighted and should run the 3200m out well. 1`- Doctor Watson Has been up a long time but still putting in on each occasion. Very solid stayer. Claim brings him right in to this. R3 1 - Espumoso Ticks all the boxes and a deserved favourite. Will take a very special effort to top him off. 2 - King Louis No fancy price this quinella. Ran home ever so stoutly at debut, and will be a better horse now. R4 5 - Savvy Coup Has furnished quickly in to a very nice racehorse. Nicely drawn, CWJ on top. Has to be the one. 6 - Kirkland Was expected to run well at debut ...and did. Second up not so good, but expected to bounce back strongly at a decent price. R5 1 - William Wallace Looks a special. Weight won't stop him. Money in the bank. 7 - Scandalo Is doing everything right, and CWJ to aid the passage from the '9' draw. Should run the quinella. R6 Best Bet 1 4 - Star Quality A promising type representing some value in a wide open affair. Has my vote. 12 - Play The Field Has been all around the winners circle without quite cracking it. Today may well be the day. Matt Cameron on board from the ace draw. R7 Best Bet 2 2 - Hoist Efforts to date hold much merit. Is well up to winning this, and a bit of weight relief helps. I'm on. 3 - Eagle Bay Impressive formline in short career to date. Looks a strong chance to carry that form on kicking off new campaign today. R8 1 - Kawi Has beaten much better fields, and if he's still the Kawi we know he will put them away in this. 10 - Coldplay Very nice last time out. A horse on the rise. Should get a sweet trip from the ace draw for J Parkes and be ever so strong in the finish. R9 9 - Seraphim Anyone who saw Seraphim win last time out wouldn't want to be on anything else. Wins. 11 - Classic Touch Very strong two starts back, and not far away last time. Overall form very sound. Should run Seraphim the closest.2 points -

You only need some longer grass in places that perhaps the mower missed, that can get slippery in the sun, I think we all remember days of wetting grass a little or longer grass hot in the sun that softens, and sliding over it, lawn surfing, when younger. Often a brush before the races or during can help. Some spots, one horse hits it, it causes indecision and what ifs set in and there you go.. unsafe. I don't think it needs to call for the track supervisor's scalp... we are starting to get like sports teams that lose a match and sack the manager. We are seeing, I believe, just me ... global warming and unknown seasons, weather patterns, making a huge difference to soil, growth, drainage.. many things that track supervisors in the past could monitor and forecast pretty well.. not now. It's a demanding job these days and perhaps all weather tracks will be something to be considered for more reliable scheduling.2 points

It does happen. Two weeks ago I was at the races and a "good" friend of mine had a runner having her first start back from a spell. She's a nice horse (by Sebring) and his Trainer, whom I know very well said this. " she's really well but It will be too short for her and I'm just looking to her to run home from the back. I can't recommend that you back her". We were having lunch with about 8 other friends and my friend told everybody at the table just what the Trainer said. Don't back her. But he then went on to say, "Look, personally I think she's an each way chance paying $40. She looks well and she might surprise us. I think she's got a bit of quality about her". With that, most got up and backed her each way. Another friend of mine (Alan), put $100ew at $38fixed odds and also put $100 on a one out quinella with a horse I said "I" was backing to win. Yep, this story has a good and bad ending. The good part is the Trainer was right (and wrong). The horse flew home from the back and got up in the last stride to WIN ! Everyone on the table (thanks to the Owner) were jumping up and down, especially Alan who had tickets in his pocket worth $9000 (yep Quinella got up). All the while, I was sitting there with a dud win ticket on the 2nd horse!! I didnt had a cent on the winner! That's racing It ended up paying $41 on the tote. So, how can you blame the trainer? He gave an honest appraisal of the horses chance but her quality got her over the line. (By the way, theTrainer does not bet).1 point

the problem with this is punters stop betting if fed misleading info by trainers etc, and even more people think the whole game is a rort. By all means give the owners the best information you can (trainers can be distinctly average there as well mind you ). And then either tell the truth to the media or just avoid the media. Pretty simple really (and maybe Danny did exactly that - makes you wonder about judgement if that is the case though doesnt it....)1 point -

fully agree with everything you have said. Going by the replies on here it seems many believe there is a need to prevent members of the public viewing races in which dogs get injured, then they point out anyone can view it on the nz greyhound website anyway. One assumes they realise anyone includes those who do not support the sport. this comment reflects the way you have viewed my statements,i think it unfortunate you have knowingly or mistakenly put a spin on what I have said to discredit my comments, I don't take it personally as I know its an emotive subject, and you clearly have strong beliefs.
