    Cup day

Great day out at riccarton saturday, nice weather, top fields and a good crowd, the hardest part was trying to back a winner. Just thought after the feature races and un saddling of the horses in the birdcage , after such a hard race, the winner then had to endure the duration of the speeches and the replay of the last stages of the race over the loud speaker, then were expected to line up for the winning photo with the owners. A tough ask on some of the younger horses who are not used to the big occasion, and are all hyped up, after running their heart out. To their credit they were well behaved, but just thought the photos would be best done first and the horse wisked away for a hose down. Enjoyed the day out and after a big week of racing, looks like all horses got around unscathed, at the end of the day, that to me is the most important thing.

    R.I.P Pentire

Sadly the breeding industry has lost one of NZ's better stallions in Pentire. Condelences to John Thompson the Rich Hill Team with the sad loss of there founding Sire! Pentire was 25 years old who was trained by Multiple classic-winning trainer Geoff Wragg who passed away in September only two months ago at the age of 87.

  3. A new comp starting next week. Familiar format but an individual comp on 12 racedays (NZ only) between now and Christmas. Some midweek meetings. All announced in detail on Wednesday.....

  4. That's how Bruce used run our Harness comps. You could be trucking along quite nicely accumulating some dollars and some arseholes on nothing down the bottom would fluke a roughie and loop the field. Did that a couple of times myself.

  5. There may have been social media reports from the stud regarding staff being sacked = but at the end of the day the stud master and owner of the stud is responsible for the condition and care of ALL horses on the property - NZTR and the SPCA have gone to great lengths to investigate this and its NOT the first time. Rob Lewis has had horses uplifted by the SPCA previously - those picturs of horses heads over a barb wire fence - does that look like a reputable stud operation to you? No ! It doesn't - Regal Fern Lodge needs to step up and acknowledge they have fucked up and that skinny horses DID exist - blaming staff is a cop out - if that was a trainer in the same situation they would be de-registered and fined! But nope - breeders are not licensed people......................

    Cup day

Aaron, in England at Royal Ascot the staff of the winning stable are always there with a lovely silver bucket of water for the winner, each and every time as the winning horse has to hang around for sometime whilst the presentation take place. Maybe we need to start that same practice here, especially in the summer. However, would the stipes allow it? Somehow I don’t think they would!

Interesting you say about the after race stuff, I had mentioned to them after winning the national that they should provide a drink for the horse afterwards because at the end of the day they are the one doing all the hard work and don't even get a drink straight after.

  18. Of course, this thread appears after a bad week for their tipping, which every punter experiences. There have been other weeks with good profits, which is hard to maintain for them, because anything they tip is likely to end up under the odds. Whats more, if you feel they are deliberately steering you in the wrong direction, maybe the best idea is for you to keep it under your hat and make a killing on other horses at inflated odds.

    Jacinda Ardern

Dead wrong Bloke--National had the courage to be realistic, something the families found unpalatable and the dishonest Left saw it as a potential vote-grabber. Send that slimy Peters in there anyway, I say.

    Race Replays

I see they are now putting the race replays up on the GRNZ site faster now since the new Trackside system came in. I think it's about time instead of having to wait 3-4 days for them. https://www.grnz.co.nz/News.aspx?NewsID=2568

    Worst Ever

Pam and yourself certainly make a lot of sense in your posts on this topic. I would hate to think that this isn't being considered by the powers that be - needs long term thinking and commitment though (ie they will probably have small field sizes for a year or three) until it gets traction

  24. "Poor ol" is an expression. He wasn't describing CWJ as poor or old. If CT tipped out Winx as a good thing we would all think poor old Winx what has she done to deserve that.

  25. Wait and see I guess. I have an open mind. Including about any ex employees - granted there is such thing as disgruntled troublemakers - but there is also such thing as good people who took exception to what they saw and got "let go" as a consequence ... In this case I have no idea which if either could be in play ... J.

    joke thread

A 75 year old man Gary was having his yearly checkup when the doctor asked how he was feeling. “I’ve never been better!”Gary boasted. “I’ve got a 20 year old wife who’s pregnant and having my child! What do you think about that?” The doctor considered this for a moment, then said, “Let me tell you a story. I knew a guy who was an insatiable hunter. He never missed a season. But one day he went out in a bit of a hurry and accidentally grabbed his umbrella instead of his gun.” The doctor continued, “So he was in the woods and suddenly a grizzly bear appeared in front of him! He raised up his umbrella, pointed it at the bear and squeezed the handle. And do you know what happened?” the doctor asked. Dumbfounded, Gary replied, “No, what?” The doctor continued, “The bear dropped dead in front of him.” “That’s can not be true!” screamed the old man. “Someone else must of shot the bear.” “That’s kind of what I’m getting at,” replied the doctor.

    RTR Sale Selections.

Blue, you're right. Fillies are the basis of your racing & stud book. But here in NZ, both have been trashed due to the trading/selling nature of the stakeholders. And the everyone whinges about the lacklustre racing environment. You reap what you sow!

  29. One thing is for sure - Greg O'Connor will ask the right questions at the right time and actually let the subject do the talking. I seriously doubt whether CWJ would have done this interview with anyone else (in fact you could say that about a lot of the people he does these special docos on). Greg is by far the best at his trade.
