  2. I don't have anything against anyone and to say I have is being disingenuous. I haven't criticised the club, I've criticised the process. If you don't have the tools how can you manage the process. This inconsistent reporting of track conditions, or final execution of race surfaces is a shambles. you are in fact trying very hard to defend the indefensible. You don't actually get the logic for the concern so you shouldn't be debating this. That you have with such conviction means you have/ had a vested interest in the outcome. So are you telling us that you are not Brendon? A simple yes or no will suffice.

  3. If you believe that Brendon then you'll believe in the Fairy Godfather. I've looked at the historics of some of our weather stations that are close by and the soil probes attached to them. And just in case you doubting Thomas's think I tell porkies, I've attached where those weather stations are. They work and don't lie. Either everyone's so used to the wet that they now think a dead 4 now looks like a Firm 2, or some idiot doesn't know how to read a track and put too much water on, or the water they put on was done in a time frame too short, or some idiot didn't look at the weather forecast before they put it on during Friday evening, or the amount they put on doesn't have correct gauges or someone is telling porkies. Now that we know what your role was, Brendon, why don't you tell us your theories as to how a dead4 turned into a slow 9 with 14mm of irrigation and 7mm of rain over a three day period when there had been so little rain that people are telling you it would have been a F1 if it hadn't been irrigated. Are you finally understanding the problem with that fused concept? Hastings weather.doc

  4. 14mm 4 days out with rain predicted was simply too much.

    GRNZ update

Log in Races Getting Involved Trainers Greyhounds About GRNZ News Investigation Update An animal welfare focused investigation is currently underway. The lead agency in this investigation is the RNZSPCA operating under the Animal Welfare Act. The SPCA have a number of specific powers under this act. The RIU is providing support to the SPCA investigation. Greyhound Racing New Zealand has provided full support to both the SPCA and the RIU in relation to the investigation. It is important to understand that the investigative process must be allowed to progress and not be undermined. GRNZ is unequivocal that the integrity of greyhound racing in New Zealand is our foremost priority, that includes a zero tolerance to any proven form of inappropriate animal welfare practice or issue. GRNZ has done all that it can until such time as the investigation is complete. We have not been given any indicative timing as to when this may be. We understand that this is proving to be frustrating for some greyhound racing participants, however, the investigative agencies have to be given time to complete a thorough and systematic investigation. Once the SPCA investigation is complete and any action taken by the SPCA implemented, the RIU will then be in a position to investigate whether there has been a breach of the Rules of Racing, and advise GRNZ of any action that should be taken. Until that process has concluded we have to wait and allow the investigation process to continue. 8. Whyisit - just accept they made an error of judgement to firstly apply irrigation and more importantly to apply 14mm in one go. As soon as they decided to do those two things they were vulnerable if any rain arrived to a downgrade of the track beyond the dead 4 they were aiming for. It rained (as was forecast) and they produced a track which was slow 9. They stuffed up. Its only reasonable that questions are asked. Col PS - using Ellis as a character witness after his horse won the big race on track conditions which suited it is a nonsense.

DM can make a difference, he should have Beernaard Saundry's job, and / or John Allens ( arguably ). I think what frightens them about him is that he knows his stuff, and he's connected, so he exposes them as ignorant fools, whereas they like to pretend they know their stuff and they insulate themselves from critics by surrounding themselves with really average people. DM is not average.

    Baseball anyone?

Playoff picture still looking pretty much as above. Colorado have almost wrapped up the second wildcard in the NL. Cubs won Central today. yankees vs Twins confirmed as AL Wildcard game. Only race that looks like going to the wire is for best record in the AL. Cleveland one game ahead of Houston with both teams having 4 games left. Cleveland have easier finish and should hold on. I also think they win the tiebreaker if needed. Gruff - Harper back for Nationals (big help) and JD Martinez keeps hitting long balls for the Dbacks - fingers crossed.

While I believe in innocent till proven guilty, if the allocations are proven to be true, what will happen to all the stake money earned while under investigation? With positive swabs the stake money is returned, does the same apply in a case like this? (Anyone clued up on the racing rules?)

  23. The same way Ellis defended Te Rapa after their debacle. This isn't an isolated case, It isn't just Hastings that are at fault, all everyone can do at the moment is complain about the tracks being to wet and needing an all-weather etc when the amateur hour that NZ Racing is continues to have repeated cases of over watering/irrigating tracks!.

    Waikato Stallion Parades

Agree guys. Personally I wouldn't be bothered with a mare who was a witch - I do the handling and even if I can handle her - it's gonna be uphill trying to produce a nicely behaved foal when the mother's trying to turn her to the devil! And if I was struggling - would it be fair to inflict some rogue on all those poor buggers down the line - farriers, breakers, trainers etc And I do know of sires who have been stroppy but their progeny no worse than average. On the other hand I have heard of sires who are unremarkable themselves but their progeny have a reputation for being a handful. All part of the challenge for us breeders I guess - part of the rich tapestry. And remember - when you breed a vicey, ill-mannered beast - and it wins lots of races - it'll just be "tough" or "spirited". But if it wins nothing - it'll simply be a pig. And I always try to have a Plan B in case they're slow - and if they're pigs - no-one who'll give them a good home will want them.

I'm sure his strike rate keeps him awake at night, seeing as he has trained Cup winners galore, Slipper Winner,Cox Plate winner, Guineas winners the list goes on. I've never understood this over reliance on Strike rate in assessing trainers , particularly when there are so many facets to training horses, that you can't take the stats seriously. Such as the above trainer preparing jumpers for starters.

  26. Totally agree with the above comment, also a foal spends the first 5-6 months with their dam and that must have a influence on their temperament as well.

Pasadena Girl comes to mind being a G1 winning 2yo over a mile as well as a Listed 2yo winner over 1000m (both in Aussie), Hasahalo Stakes winning 2yo, Gold Fever Matamata Breeders' winner. Some of his better performers did win a race at 2 including Sangster, Soriano, Hall Of Fame, Savvy Nature, Addictive Nature, Lady Kipling, Nurse Kichen etc, but were just minor races. Definitely not a noted 2yo sire, Masque's full sister is Costume who was a dual G1 winner as an older horse over 2000m.

  28. Thanks Lloyd. What a hassle for them - I didn't know that. Yep I've never seen Super Easy in the flesh - he looks a very muscular type from photos? A general comment - the thing that's hard to guage with all the sires (from the breeder's seat) is temperament - once there are a lot of progeny around there is more to go on as far as what the trainers, breakers and owners say. Parades can give at least a glimpse of the stallion's nature. Most of of us only have 1 or 2 of a given sire so it's not fair to judge on that sample size. And of course not many stud masters are going to tell you their horse is a fiery type!

  36. I see that a couple of races at Te Rapa on Saturday are celebrated in honour of Frank and Colleen Ritchie and their 50 years of marriage. Up until a couple of weeks ago, Frank Ritchie to me was simply the trainer of Bonecrusher (probably the horse that I enjoyed seeing race the most). A couple of weeks ago, I joined Stu Hale's Waikato stud tour for a day and sat across from Frank. We had a few chats through the tour and he came across as a lovely guy, so genuine, interesting and interested. So to Frank (and Colleen), congrats on an amazing milestone. I hope you have a great day of celebration on Saturday; and Miss Dalghar wins the fifth race for you.
