  1. This amendment is an absolute disaster for racing. Everything about it is geared at wresting control of NZRB away from Racing and onto Sports organisations. Hell they have even inserted Sport and Recreation NZ into the Act. Sport and Recreation NZ does not exist. Everywhere in the Act when racing is mentioned someone has ensured sport is listed alongside as an equal partner. Its got Glenda Hughes footprint all over it. Heavily involved in sports management, sports media on top of being a Sports representative for NZ. Using one of her media tricks in the bag she refers to Racing and Sport as Sport and Racing. How on earth she was put in and Alan Jackson taken out of the chair smells of something underhand. The average greyhound participant would not have objected to Jackson's appointment. They must have been led on by some anti racing pro sport government official. This Act stifles local innovation. Does nothing to stop betting leakage and just puts more control back to government. It ensures that no matter what the future of the TAB the proceeds will not flow back to racing but be shared with sports organisations. Expect huge legal costs as racing and sports squabble over financial returns as well as sports organisations themselves squabbling over a cut of the cake. Politicians will find more leaverage appeasing sports administrators than racing. This new amendment is unworkable and has hoodwinked racing administrators believing its about leakage whereas its nothing of the sort.

  2. The great man Laurie ,on his last day Training in Singapore was paid lots of Tributes tonight. Didnt quite get his final winner. Jesus, can you imagine the conversation at The Cambridge Trainers" shack, when Murray Baker, Marsh, Somervell and Pike see Lacko arrive with a couple of shockingly bred Vella fillies in January 2018. And he will do it. I was so lucky to drive the Majestic Horse floats that picked up Laurie's horses three times a week from his (Peake Road ?) property to take them to The Cambridge Track. Maybe 1984? Laurie demanded punctuality , skill and calm.I was very lucky that he asked John Kenny, the then Manager of Majestic, to be "His" driver: When Laurie's beautiful first wife was killed out side their home he went through Hell and like so many tough and wonderful people Laurie came back. Some how he did not self pitty. Laurie Survived. He Wept. Then he some how Reorganised his life: He gave me a pair of Empire Rose's Melbourne Cup racing plates. Great Man our Laurie. The Group One Bar in Cambridge will never be the same when he visits !! Rev

    Super Stable 2017

Hi Richie, I know you have been in the competition previously, and understand we have to pick two horses from the list supplied in each section by HRNZ, and then two wildcard picks. If those wildcard selections are not on HRNZ lists then they are rated as the lowest rating. Today when I was putting in my stable, I found my two wildcards, although not on the original list, were given not rated as the minimum rating. Hence, my email to HRNZ today. I will keep in touch. Robert.

  9. Another curve ball. The Datsuns. A brilliant bunch making it big in England. Saw them live at King St Live in Masterton and it was deafening but brilliant. If you like heavier stuff listen to 'What do I Know.' Have forgotten copy and paste . COME IN HEDLEY

Every time I turn on the computer these days the google home page has a story about Princess Diana. Someone should tell them she's dead. For them it appears breaking news.

Don't know the man but in fairness to him I think it often happens that many trainers have too many shares in too many horses, either by design or inheriting shares from delinquent payers etc. Have long experience in owning, agisting, standing stallion, breeding and most other industry realms and unfortunately the industry is littered with dreamers, bull-shitters,straight-out crooks who default on trainers and agisters and unfortunately after you have fed and/or trained a horse for months and not been paid there is nothing tangible you can recoup except the manure.

  18. No, I am hanging on to the LastOf40 name, gained in 2006 after a less than auspicious competition. A reminder that in this game you can be back to a feather duster in no time at all.

Hi Robert just read that in our local rag over a coffee - thought it was a good read. Nothing wrong with second chances if people learnt from the first one. Col

  23. There is many ways a person can be financing themselves: Lotto Got an massive all up to win. Had Cronulla/Leicester/Chicago Cubs/Ireland to beat ABs/Lions drawn series to come in. Importing some of South America's finest exports An inheritance Mum and Dad bank Married well Got a sugar daddy Selling unlimited quantities of whitebait. As long as you get up once more than you went down you will be alright :-) Racing and this forum is littered with people that have been broke. Myself included, moral building!! I love this racing rule; Rule 303 (f) requires a Class A trainer to be ‘financially sound and of good character', how many people fall this :-)
