    Jacinda Ardern

About time the "soft" interviews with this Labour flake stopped (see NZHerald "at home" today with the boyfriend following the 4-person dinner party) and the hard questions were asked. Noticeable that it is entirely female, left-wing reporters driving the agenda to give her a cosy ride. Can not have male journalists "bullying" the emerging petal. Australia facing the same fate with biased journalism so I guess it had to come here after US and Oz.

    Our Second Broodmare

Quite right Shad. There are so many B.S'ers it's actually refreshing to hear someone say they don't know it all but they're gonna have a go and they're willing to learn. Had some dealings recently with a fairly esteemed owner / breeder - has a bank balance that makes mine look like petty change from a 5 year old's lemonade stall - but declared he isn't any expert in type or the other finer points of things equine - but nevertheless is loving every minute and soaking it all up. So all the best to you nathanleslie. Hope you breed a lil champion - you just never know

  6. Title says it all really folks - just had to sigh a little when the latest pamphlet and email arrived today inviting me to stallion parades I'd love to attend but can't for the same reasons a lot of you probably can't either (too far away, too busy working to earn $ to pay stallion fees etc). There are also other reasons too of course - like disabled breeders who find it really hard to get to the parades let alone around the place once they are there .... I reckon it would be an awesome service if someone videoed these then made them available for viewing after? I think it would provide authentic, raw information to breeders - which can be valuable alongside the edited/selective marketing material in which the studs naturally want to show their stallions in the best possible light (even if the final (marketing) "cut" of the video was the first time ever that they managed to get the beast to walk on 4 legs not 2 in the parade ring!! ) I see there was a sponsor on one of my pamphlets - any takers to sponsor this initiative? Or maybe NZTB could step up (just got your account fellas - and we're nearly up to $200 per annum .... ) Just a bit of FOMO I guess and a thought on what could be done so peops like me would not feel we were missing out quite so much .... Trump written off

Trump ignited a political firestorm yesterday during an impromptu press conference in which he said there was "blame on both sides" for the tragic events that occurred in Charlottesville over the weekend. Now, the discovery of a craigslist ad posted last Monday, almost a full week before the Charlottesville protests, is raising new questions over whether paid protesters were sourced by a Los Angeles based "public relations firm specializing in innovative events" to serve as agitators in counterprotests. The ad was posted by a company called "Crowds on Demand" and offered $25 per hour to "actors and photographers" to participate in events in the "Charlotte, NC area." While the ad didn't explicitly define a role to be filled by its crowd of "actors and photographers" it did ask applicants to comment on whether they were "ok with participating in peaceful protests." Here is the text from the ad:

    Club membership

To be fair here WD the question was related to membership - and I responded that I think the membership aspect of the CJC works well. On the wider question you raise - I think the vast majority of clubs struggle to get much going outside their carnivals. My simplistic view is that Riccarton is no better or worse than most on this point - but I could well be wrong. In the old days when clubs directly benefited from on course turnover I always thought racing clubs should have been bending over backwards to get punters on course. I would've found 40 or 50 local gamblers and had them on a list offering them their own room with cheap or free food & drink served by half naked men and women (I'm an equal opportunities degenerate), with good betting facilities staffed by operators who could work the machine. Richard Bromley in his role at Addington was the only person I ever found who did this. Although there were no half naked people serving drinks...

    Club membership

The trouble is you only see the negative. I am not farking stupid & well aware there are problems in racing as there are in countless other pursuits today that are competing for the discretionary spend. Take Golf, Rugby, Cricket, Fishing all having declining interest & membership as the $ is split far more ways than prior to yr 2000. The problem with silly people like you is they expect Winks quality to be going around at Tauherenikau this weekend.

  21. We're Doomed

    Counties PR Disaster.

I do find it a bit sad when people with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of the industry come on here to contribute and things often degenerate into personal abuse. I have been involved in racing for many years in many capacities and the thing that does become apparent is that Racing attracts people from all walks of life. In the "old" days the street sweeper and the business CEO would stand side by side in TAB's and discuss the relative merits of certain horses without any animosity at all. With the rise of social media there are people who would previously have had no platform at all who can suddenly comment on the same level as people who have much more knowledge than them. I think we need to be a bit tolerant if people make comments that we may not agree with. It is a complex industry and we can't expect everyone to have the same depth of knowledge. I think there are people on here with more knowledge than most of the people getting paid big money to run Racing. So lets try to be a bit more tolerant and let people have their say, even if we may not agree with them.

  30. Thanks for the feedback Woodbine. I really don't think it need be too expensive to implement - obviously would require the cooperation/consent of the studmasters & someone fairly proficient to film (including whatever commentary was provided on the day) and then post it (warts and all) somewhere on the net that breeders could access it. I do think though because it is going to be a relatively "raw" product - it has to be done with fairness and integrity - if someone's horse is naughty - they don't get to "retake" or edit the footage because they're best mates with whoever's doing the filming or putting the package together. It's a video of the parade as it happens. It needs to be a level playing field that everyone signs up for (hope that doesn't sound harsh but the studs have every opportunity to post their own carefully choreographed footage on their own sites for marketing their horses and what I'm proposing is nothing different than what people would've seen if they could have attended ...). Cheers, J

  31. This is a very good idea. Steve Davis would do a very good job as a narrator for such a film. It would be an opportunity to introduce a wide range of stallions to potential breeders. The Waikato and Auckland branches of NZTBA should take up this initiative
