  1. ponder , can see you have never ridden, there are many reason gary says watch the gates , gives the attendant holding a horses head time to be ready to release the horse, time for a jock if the horse is unsettled to yell out,and the most important is that jocks don't have the horses ready to jump when they go into the stalls , you try to get them to relax.

  2. Report from the "HABIBI" camp.....Isaac had too may guinesses, came home and found "Reds under the Bed" too late to inform the team. The Vet has reported that Habibi has succumbed to an allergy similar to Jet-lag, possibly due to recent travellers Heather and Graeme. Pam continues to drive the horse float very carefully, while Brian has been threatened with a visit to the pet food factory. Habibi will quickly recover from minor ailments and is looking forward to her first visit in space to race against the Blunderbirds. Isaac complains that his playing cards are fifty-two cards short and only has a couple of jokers left. Exciting times ahead.

  3. Sad to hear, I buy the only Best Bet that goes to my local garage in fact if I am late they always put it a side for me. I will never get use to not having something so simple to read and I like to write down a few notes and dividends. The Informant I found very hard to read as writing was small and everything was all jammed up not layed out in a nice easy to read format, but will revisit to see if I can adapt. I can print out the fields at home on A4 pages but I end up with lots of pages and not something I want to cart around when I go out. The computer I love as we are spoilt for information but I don't like using the computer for my study. I find I look at one area of a field on screen and then go further down the screen to see the rest of the field and bugger me if I haven't forgotten what is further up the page I lose what the hell is further up the page and I just give up. I wonder why The TAB never advertises outside of Trackside. All they seem to do is advertise to their own customers, bit weird if you ask me. Lotto advertises to everyone, I go online and read a online paper or go to other sites and get lotto popping up with adverts about winning so many million, drive down the motorway and they have a electronic billboard telling you how much 1st division is this week... WHAT DOES THE TAB DO....close down free to view, close down tracks, close or reduce the paper content and then get rid of the Best Bets. I get a feeling some powers that be really don't give a shit about racing an thats the reason it is where it is.

  16. N Rasmussen was questioned regarding the manner she drove her colt throughout this race when after restraining in the early stages to race at the rear of the field allowed the colt to improve on the bend near the 1600 metres to race outside the leading ALTA MAESTRO throughout. Ms Rasmussen explained that she had been forced to drive her horse from the back last week as dictated by the barrier draw and because of this felt her horse had avoided having a tough run unlike her main opposition. She added she considered both ALTA MAESTRO and SPANKEM to be vulnerable tonight after last week's race and so elected to drive in a more aggressive manner which is how she would have preferred to drive the colt last week but was unable to do so. After reviewing the films and considering her explanation her comments were noted. You could pretty much tell the stipes anything as long as you didn't include the word guilty.

    ECHOES OF HEAVEN

I've always agisted my mares for foaling, then walk in services to Linwood Park from Monovale Farm and back. Excellent results and no problems with registrations over the years. Tony Mudgeway an excellent Stallion Manager and Monovale Farms outstanding care of both mares and foals. I believe Linwood have not agisted or foaled at their farm for some years. I'm holding noms for stallions this coming season. I too hope past problems are sorted now. Both Ekraar and Echoes of Heaven excellent value and have produced great results for us. N.B. Countofmontecristo came off the track at Kranji 14 May in the 3 yr old Guineas lame in the near foreleg. Glenn Boss says he nursed him to third and he's a true G1 horse who would have won. Much more ahead for him. Going back this year to EOH.

    Met multiplier

With the new handicapping system meaning connections of horses appear far more likely to start their horses at addington and with the payments starters get nowdays,is it not time the amount the met multiplier pays out be reviewed. Surely some of this money should be directed into stakes for the higher rating races. When you look and see buster brady won only $10,600 for winning the highest rating race on the premier night it really is not enough.

I think i read or heard somewhere that he wasn't going to be totally screwed down for last night's run,but he'll almost be bang on for the Jewels.Bit harsh to kinda bag the horse after he's put in one average run,in an otherwise solid start to his career.

  43. DAVID WALSH TO JOIN NZTR STAFF Former champion jockey David Walsh is to take up a full time role with New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing. Walsh, who has ridden more winners in New Zealand than any other jockey, will next month begin working as the NZTR training and welfare officer for the South Island. Walsh will be based in Christchurch and will also have responsibility for health and safety and licensing. Part of his role will be to mentor and support apprentice jockeys and the promotion of careers in thoroughbred racing. He will begin his new position in early June and will take over from Will Harnett, who has resigned from NZTR to take up employment outside the racing industry. Walsh announced his retirement from race riding in January, after a stellar career that produced more than 2500 wins, two New Zealand premierships and wins in the Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup, Brisbane Cup and Adelaide Cup. He became the most successful jockey in New Zealand in terms of wins when notching win No. 2360, in the Marlborough Cup, at Blenheim in 2014. His host of Group I victories in New Zealand included a hat-trick of Telegraph wins at Trentham. He also made a mark as a trainer, winning a Group I race with Zirna. “I’m really looking forward to the [NZTR] job,” Walsh said. “I didn’t want to leave the industry and this has come along at the right time “I’ve already been helping the young riders down here [in Canterbury] off and on for the last five or six years.” Walsh is passionate about recruiting people into the racing industry. “We need to go out there, into the schools and pony clubs, to explain what a great industry this is to work in. “They aren’t coming to us at the moment and we need to get out there and find the riders and staff of the future. They need to know that you don’t have to be a Jim Cassidy or an Opie Bosson to do well.” NZTR Racing Operations Manager Tim Aldridge said the organisation was delighted to have secured somebody with Walsh’s background. “He will be the ideal person to follow the good work done by Will Harnett,” Aldridge said.

    Purcell on another Trip

Zero respect for an exiting individual who rides the gravy train of a struggling enterprise - as if trying to drain it of its last remnants of cash or credibility ... Even less respect for the governance of that enterprise who allow the individual to take advantage (aka "take the p###) in this way. But it seems their stakeholders never really manage to call them to account .... Just another slap in the face for struggling owners / breeders. Some people should be ashamed. Would be ashamed ... if they had a conscience or a shred of decency ...

  46. Well, if I was Saundry, I would seek out players from all parts of the Industry and get my own picture of what state the Industry is in. (I would even ask Racecafe to nominate 3 of it's regular contributors to spend a day or two with me and listen to the problems from their pov.) It's no good him coming in and listening to the Board - they are responsible for the current situation. If they knew how to fix it, it would be fixed or on it's way to being fixed. He's got to be his own man. I fear that the "weakness" (for want of another word) is higher than CEO level.

    Wanganui scales

Scales: Inconsistent weights so this is all we get in the stipes report regarding the ongoing saga that is the joke of a racing club called Wanganui and their scales, a 2 word explanation, I could think of 2 other words. I haven't had a single bet at the Wanganui dogs since they have decided to do nothing about the scales, they appear to just not give a single fuck (pardon my language)

I remember when I was very very young and my mother would send me up the road to the shop to buy a best bets.. $0.10 I think it cost in those days.. great reading for a young guy.. taught /helped me with my reading and spelling.. yeah I know.. it shows but that's all I got interested in . racing up the shop getting a best bet and having a look before handing it over to my mum... will be sadly missed.

  50. Don't levy the exported horses at all. They pay the same track fees and relevant expenses as the ones that don't make the grade. Most connections jump straight back in to another horse or two, why discourage them?
