Yes, thanks Chestnut! I see it now.. was a bit confused there...haven't been keeping up with everything that's been happening and was upset to see how PJ had pulled the pin on his comp. That would have been terrible. Glad to see he's 'recanted' - and looking forward to the new comp!3 points -

Congratulations to those involved with both Wheelchair Norm (390m 22.08) and Min Ho (457m 25.65) who both set track records at Southland on Tuesday, massive effort by both dogs especially Wheelchair Norm who at over 4 years old is probably in the best form of his life. Also in a time where tracks seem to get more criticism then positive comments said about them, it must be said that the track looks in superb condition.2 points -

They have a big broodmare band to support the stallion so have the attitude of you can breed to him if you wish - otherwise look elsewhere. Must be a good looking horse to attract 250,000 as a yearling. Question I pose if he didn't win the Group 1 would he be a $7,500 - $10,000 stallion? Guess it's all irrelevant as he is now a G1 winner - How do people rate the quality of the G1 he won. Will be interesting how timeform rated it....Does make Contributor look attractive at his price.1 point

John....team points are the total of three team members....I will be recording everyone's individual points for MVP etc....I have deliberately kept the scoring low to keep matches tight race by race...the BB is an absolute must win. The Target score for Waterlea will be 18 points. Seeya Sunday Brian1 point

Seems ironic that there has been over 450 views of this thread with you yourself contributing 3 seperate times so yourself and others must be interested. And FYI this thread was started BEFORE the odds had even been provided by the betting agencies. I started the thread because of the horse but you keep misinterpreting my point so I'll just let you keep misterpreting my posts as you seem to be extremely good at it.1 point

No Brodie the maidens went 2.55 Major Hippie was a maiden. The run the other day was unbelievable started from the outside of the front line, 4 wide for the first 800, got to the lead then got attacked, then had the lung capacity to fight them all off.1 point

the racing industry should be lobbying both national and labour $1 each way if you will to ensure they realise we are an influential large group . Jacinda may not have a strong background for PM but even if you don't agree with her she is pleasant to see on the TV cf, Little/English. ps a large company I worked for 25 years did the each way thing even large contributions to b oth parties. After each election the MD could alwaysget an appointment with PM.!!1 point -

What I don't get is where is the pattern? I really can't get my mind around the fact that Racing is in two parts. One is the promotion of the breed and the other the promotion of betting/ event/ media. All thoroughbred sales around the World are booming....except for NZ. Our breed is being discounted as a result of our racing's status. Nothing wrong with our horses. Take the Telegraph/ Thorndon mile. Used to be that you had the Railway winner move on to the Telegraph. The Thorndon should have been placed to allow a horse the opportunity to prove they were an outstanding sprinter that could successfully extend to a mile. That's breed making and stallion making. But now this is gone. The pattern has been stuffed. The reason for the NZ Derby placement in December was to identify the most precocious 3yo that was capable of running the classic distance at THAT time of the year. The theory is that there should be two further races after the Derby, one over 2000m( for the those three year olds that didn't quite stay the 2400m) and the other over the 2400m, but both of these races are against the older horses. This is to test the classic crop against the older brigade to ascertain the quality of the classic crop. So if you change the listed and group races to support a couple of restricted races, how is this going to help prove the best horses? This is a stroke against making and shaping the breed. As it is a stallions chances of being a champion stallion (first season or general) is now dictated by the results of a restricted race. That's bullshit as the champion first season sire should really be all about producing group one winners. How many times has the Millions winner gone on with it? Some have but not many so it's not really a good breed making race. Should not the stakes of this race be excluded from the official premierships tally? They are after all restricted races. All that is happening is that breeders are playing games to qualify their horses for the race so this must potentially compromise the integrity of some sales. We all know it happens. One interesting thing to do would be to open the race to all comers but have the stakes bonus(ie the million stake) be distributed to those who were sold through the sales and paid the entry. That way the playing field would be levelled1 point

Brodie, it can happen.. I said to some mates that a galloper would win it's first start at Waikato , which it did and then told them it would win the derby, they laughed.. it won the derby and turned out to be a more than useful horse. but , we all have seen really good horses over the yeas we all thought would go on to be champions.. they get so far and either have the stuffing knocked out of them or are sold because they find something just a little better no matter, I always wish any horse and owner well. it's a hard goal to achieve , but we all have that dream, and dreams are free. i'd like to see several horse starts for this horse before I change my mind...1 point -

New Minister for Racing
Insider reacted to TOM(the other Molloy) for a topic
yes we can only hope he can make a difference. Certainly if the guy takes an active interest, maybe heads out to Matamata or Te Rapa one morning or to the Dargaville races he might actually talk to some of the grass roots and get a feel for the game. Instead of soaking up the hospitality at Karak Million night or Karaka Sales, NZ Cup day or whatever. Those days are great times for NZ racing but not reflective of the everyday grind for stakeholders. In other news I see his predecessor has now got civil defence so if disaster strikes you people you are on your own and in deep poop!1 point -
