What's going on here? There may be a shortage of good tracks but there are still plenty of commas, full stops, semi-colons, question marks, etc. for everyone to use. Some of you should try using them sometime. Would make your posts a lot easier to read!

Hardly surprising with the volume of rain forecast this week, Te Awamutu wont go ahead either. Probably a smart move to shift Breeders day to Te Rapa for Saturday. No other track will be able to cope with the rain forecast. Your posts are getting repetitive and depressing, go outside and get some sunshine before it goes for the week.

  4. And I am sure they will?????? They and all the rest of them have their beady eyes on the value of those assets you and your ilk want to close down and sell. It is clear Petone intends to divert that dosh to the big clubs for what might loosely be called 'infrastructure'. If past history is any guide they will piss all that money up against the wall as well and where will they get their funds from then? Attrition of clubs and courses is inevitable but as far as some halfwit in Petone telling me we are shut down well they can go and get stuffed. We will cease in our own good time and I am certain there will be a deluge of small clubs the same soon after.

  6. What happened at palmy on Friday? I heard there was a big ruckus caused by some of the greyhound trainers at the track. Apparently they even needed the police to get involved. and why are the riu not investigating the matter or even mentioned this? They have fined and punished people for a lot less so why would they turn a blind eye to this unacceptable behavior if what I have heard really happened.

  7. Lat night (radio station 1080) was dedicating a couple of hours to speak about horse racing, they just segway into it. The radio presenters were very enthusiastic about horse racing. Got Tony Veitch on the phone to discuss his horse with Te Akau and he did so in his usual exciting way. The radio presenters said they wanted to hear good stories about why people love the game and the enjoyment they get from it etc. Third call in Bill (he said he belongs to some association) rings up and starts a 10 minute moan about how the game does not care about the little punter, how 50 years ago there were crowds of 50,000.....on and on about everything negative about the game. Talked politics etc. The radio presenters could not get rid of him quickly enough. It was embarrassing. We have to understand the good old days were that Bill, because you were not old and you felt good!!! Anyone listening would be thinking I can do without a day at the races if people like Bill are there moaning all day.

The day is etched into my memory - 31 December 2006 - I described it then as Alexandra Park's greatest day of shame. 'Another Creation' was the Purdon runner, victim of the most blatant team-driving I'd ever witnessed in my life. G Small with 3 runners was the guilty party, one of his runners' chances completely sacrificed to pave the way for Changeover. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I imade sure i didn't see anything similar again, I left Alexandra Park and took up supporting the thoroughbreds instead. Never went back. Blatant corruption, not even any pretence at subtlety. Forever etched in my memory.

Hey Mr BigStuff. I bet you are one of these guys who do not even go to the races and if so go once a year and are allowed $2 to bet all day by your wife. Why are you not at Te Aroha with a sponge helping out I forgot you have the brain the size of a pea and would need a weeks training on what to use the sponge for

  10. The point you miss Skelly is that Waipuk probably costs absolutely zero to retain. The Committee there(and I have no idea who any of them are) will be fundraising and getting stuck in themselves at working bees and chasing sponsors. Their two or three days per year probably generate $25 - $30k in extra dosh going into the industry by way of sponsorship and free labour that would,if the days were simply transferred to Awapuni or Trentham or somewhere, simply disappear. Shift those two or three days to Awapuni and no doubt there will have to be another admin person employed plus extra track staff and promotions men - next thing $50+k of industry money is down the toilet and when it comes to the raceday there will be nobody there. My own case is a classic example. The thousand bucks(plus GST) I put up as sponsorship for Reefton returns me not one single cent. It is purely for love of the game and loyalty to the Club that I do it. When the inevitable happens(and it will) there is not a hope in hell of me transferring that sponsorship elsewhere. There is also the personal effort I and the committee put in - for instance I doubt too many ARC committeemen scrub the birdshit off the grandstand seats before raceday. No to mention the continuous piffle on topics of no relevance whatsoever to the advancement of NZ racing that Petone in particular insist on pounding us with relentlessly. If there is one thing I will not miss when this is all over it is the tripe that lot insist on hammering us with.

another junior race canned this week- how do we expect to keep juniors- long hours poor pay and bugger all drives- one told me today he has had enough- great young fella but who can blame him- time to dump junior races bring in junior claims for all races 15k and under - depending on wins how many points they claim- like jockeys- if I have a 53 rated horse and get a 5 point claimer can enter a 48- not hard. retaining juniors and workers is getting harder and harder. give the young fellas a chance. I know most of them up here- great fellas respectful but I am a small stable cant put them all on. they need an advantage and a points claim is the obvious

    Young dogs

It's obviously a bone of contention for lots of people what's the best age to start racing dogs. I'm preparing to leave Oz next week so yesterday we had to have our old racer now family pet inoculated so we could bring him home to NZ with us. After reading this post we decided to ask our vet here in Victoria of his opinion during our appointment. Michael Bell is considered here the doyen of greyhound vets not only in Victoria but Australia wide. His clients include the Daily's Bravo's Britton's & nearly every top kennel in Vic West of the Yarra river. Michael is also the on course vet for the The Meadows He owns & operates the Craigieburn Vet Hospital. He's a master surgeon. When told of this discussion taking place back home he was completely dumbstruck! He was in disbelief trainers were allowed to start dogs at such a young age in the first place. As is written in the post dogs are not permitted to start there careers until they reach sixteen months of age here in Victoria. Michael said there's a petition circulating that the GRV will soon raise the age to eighteen months! The biggest concern for Michael was the skeletal structure of a dog so young running around a corner at full speed. The pressure on there undeveloped bodies he said is a grave concern for there future. He commented tracks in this era are not like those of days gone by. Where the exception could do the impossible & get away with it. Tracks these days are prepared for speed that's the biggest problem for any young pup. Also he couldn't understand why the controlling body hadn't set aside guidelines in this contentious issue. I for one will adhere to his free advice & when the time arises my future racing will commence after eighteen months has surpassed. As for those who disagree that's your prerogative & I wish you well.

  14. What a difference a week makes. The Auckland Club produced the best track on Sunday I have seen for quite some time. The times run shows most dogs running 7 - 10 lengths faster. I see the previous week that from the two qualy trials run, 9 dogs, only 1 in the 1st and 3 in the 2nd qualified. On Sunday 3 of the dogs that failed previously came back and were successful. A dog that ran 19.43 improved to 18.96 and another from 19.63 to 18.85.

  15. From what I have heard, several licensed people attacked another group of people at the track and the police were called which led to people being arrested (how many I do not know). I do not know the full details or who was involved but I am surprised that the RIU have made no comments on this what so ever or charged anyone. Seems like they are using their magic wands again and sweeping the issue under the carpet as they have tried to put people out for alot less recently.

Probably should end that with a question mark, but nice to see some punctuation. If Midget can use big words like "schadenfreude" then the least we mere mortals can do is use a bit of punctuation here and there. Makes posts easier to read if you know where one thought finishes and the next begins.

    junior drivers

What about what they do in southland where certain races have a no penalty clause if driven by a junior. Seems to work well down there. That way you can get reward for supporting them, and not penalize those with lower grade horses who would have to race against higher credentialed horses, possibly driven by very talented juniors. Really is the problem not more about the failure of your fellow trainers to support these races, therefore how about you give a serve to some of the bigger stables who will be the ones who employ these juniors and don't support them race day.

  22. Thanks for asking even though it won't concern you. Oh wait, it didn't concern you that other time either. First rule change: - entrants are not allowed to lay a NZ trained horse named All Razzle Dazzle - it always pays unders and likes to follow other horses across the line, and I don't want to make this competition too easy. Wouldn't expect too many more rule changes (if any) - it's a pretty straight-forward comp.

You really are stupid, do you have no common sense. Stop trying to justify the unjustifiable. You and your kin would race your dogs at 12 months if you could get away with it. 14 months is a disgrace. The dogs that this thread are referring to, whelped Jan 16 and still with their puppy coats should never be racing, it is far to young. It is a bad look. There bones are still developing, not to mention their mental development, especially the dogs. Anyway its pointless pointing this out to a moron that would defend this cruel and barbaric behaviour.

  33. Unfortunately you're as naive as 90% of the population when it comes to this argument. You can't just pull out an isolated comparison between two venues and claim it has some sort of meaning to it. What happens to racing in these communities when you stop racing there? what happens to horse numbers from these areas if you close the venues(they don't just move to a new venue, they are more than likely gone) , can your alternative venues handle the racing ? Why shouldn't the racing happen at these venues as it costs the industry nothing, they are more than likely self funded , why close these venues when there is likely nothing in it for the racing industry in doing so?

  34. I have heard rumours of people using this in the past. I doubt it is in wide use however. Its very dangerous to use on any dog and anyone caught using arsenic should be banned for life. From my understanding, arsenic increases the rate that the dogs body pumps red blood cells but has many drawbacks. Give the dog too much of a dose and it can be really dangerous for the dog. Anyone willing to go that far to win a race shouldn't be in charge of any animals period.

  37. Well done PJ and his Ferdies.Too good for us. Very well done Jason and MoMo.Fabulous efforts. All we needed was one more winner amongst the other three for success. Bit like last week against the Mork Porks. It must feel like winning the first two games of the series and getting thrashed in the last game of the series and going up and getting the trophy PJ. But wait there is more Rees so a final effort needed and we may win the also ran comp like last time.

  38. Compare Waipuk and Avondale recently on turnover on course. Also Waipuk was up 100k off course this year compared to last. What's better having a population of close to 1 million and 200 people turn up or a population of 20 thousand and 800 people turn up?

  39. Not sure its anything to do with protection their own patch Mr BS, its more about your failure to understand how racing currently operates and that it is not owned by one corporate identity. Selling off a few assets or closing down a few facilities would do little or nothing to advance racing at other centres & provide no capital for re-investment. Small centres would just give the bird salute and turn their back on racing full stop, pocket the money and run. The concept for sorting racing's woes are not as simple as shutting a few doors, in fact it would hasten the demise as it currently stands.
    1 point
  40. Love your work turny!! people are just to dumb to look at the bigger picture, I am ready to throw my ownership interests away. Its not viable. Nobody listens and you are all just protecting your own patch. I want to race my horse on good tracks and be able to sit in comfortable facilities rather than birdshit covered open grandstands. Put proper surfaces in at the main tracks so we can race once a week, or twice if we had to. I shake my head I really do

  42. Trump - over here we just don't get it - many times I have advanced reducing tracks - It really is simple - a maximum of 10 - 6 north 4 south - make the game potentially profitable for investors - NZ is in noddy land thinking what we have can survive - I have given up - sadly even those involved don't see it and that is the real worry - there really is no hope here - they have invited the sword and NZRB are reacting - Allen and co have played them and will win

Can't agree about John Oatham, he's not a liar and nor is he an orchestrator of evidence to my knowledge. Bailey is though just an absolute rotter, an awful example of the species even by the very low standards we've come to expect from that crowd over there.

Shouldn't you also thank the RIU for taking a sensible position with their penalty submissions, and the JCA for departing from historical precedents whereby penalties typically start at three months ? There is a pattern of recent times whereby both the RIU and JCA are acting more in line with what might be seen as a "licensee friendly" common sense approach and ignoring the rather draconian habits and penalties of the past. That's a very good thing, worthy of applause, and should be acknowledged don't you think Rumpers ?

Rumpers will defend him and I think the JCA ( who are taking a very sensible approach these days, ditto the RIU ) will see this for what it is. Thank fook he didn't take a Barocca on the way to the races and test positive for cobalt.
