Unfortunately for the small trainer, the TAB makes a lot of money from the those top trainers and they turn many a blind eye to their antics, with just the odd exposure of devious practises in the code. I would be a lot happier if everyone was treated the same and a significant increase in drug swabbing with the same regime they have in the UK. Our borders should also be alerted to the frequently travelled owners from Oz with their performance enhancing bounty in tow.

  4. Raced yesterday at Addington. Parading to the 520 boxes my dog did a jobby right on the finish line. There it lay in all its glory throughout the race. At the conclusion of the race when walking back to retrieve our dogs, one had to be careful not to step in it. Miraculously it had survived all 8 dogs going over it 2 times. It got me wondering, now whats going to happen to the jobby, so thought i would watch. The answer was soon forthcoming in the shape of a tractor towing a mat behind it. Yes you guessed it, straight over the top, end of jobby. Now some of you probably do not consider this a big deal. But there are people in the Greyhound code that do wash, and make an attempt at personal hygiene, i being one, and i take offense at this sort of filthy behaviour and culture that is displayed by not actively picking up this offensive matter. Clubs are ramming down our throats" Health and Safety" at every turn, including Drug testing of LP's under the guise of its a "Safety Sensitive" activity. I consider a track that has stools mulched back into the sand a serious health issue, not only for humans, but also the dogs eye's. I am not blaming the Starter or Parade Steward, they are only doing what they are told. The Club have a policy unlike any other Club in Australasia. That is, its beneath their dignity for the Parade Steward or Starter to been seen carrying a bucket and shovel, and they leave stools on the track if they are not near the boxes. Then after the race is run, the person driving the tractor is supposed to stop and pick up the offending matter. Well it didn't happen yesterday, and i suspect a good portion just get mulched into the track. They then apply water, and spread the contamination far and wide. Over a period of time, it can only get worse. This is a serious health hazard to my way of thinking. The track surface is yours and mine workplace.

  8. Agree Pete, the only time "Mute" is disengaged for me is when the race commentary is playing or Steve Davis is the presenter, plus of course the Oz segments. Surely they can find some knowledgable "racing" people rather than these muppets. Someone like "Boots" Sweeney possibly or Mary? (Sunline, breeders secretary?) or more input from trainers such as Graham Richardson, Lance O'Sullivan, Steven McKee on a paid basis. Really sick of the repetitive shyte from Popperwell, Rodley and Sweeney. (But certainly do not want more input from that germ Guerin.)

Don't forget that Sacred Elixir was trained with a Karaka Million prep, then into a Brisbane Winter G1 prep, then a Melbourne Derby prep then a NZ Derby prep all in one year so he was asked for a lot and entitled to be a little tired/flat by the time the NZ Derby come around!

  16. Into the Finals rounds now - every team will be looking to hit the ground running in this week's opening matchups - Mighty Blues have been travelling well and are confident of reversing a recent defeat to the Chiefs in round-robin. My opponent Catalano is arguably the top tipster in the entire competition, so it will be a real coup and confidence-booster for the Blues Brothers if I can fire-up and put us 1-0 up. These are the wins I'm expecting to take me to a precious victory over the briliant Catalano :- R1 : 4x6 R2 : 1x9 R3 : 2x4 BB NZ R4 : 6x8 R5 : 1x7 R6 : 2x7 R7 : 14x15 R8 : 2x4 R9 : 7x14 R10: 2x11 BB Aus Good luck, Cat ! Even better luck Gordy, Geoff, Brian and Pete. Let's bring this home, fellas ! Thanks, PJ.

    Japanese Industry

Japan does everything well and to the highest level of quality, they can. So it is no surprise they have good breeding and set up. The JRA is not some amateur operation. Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan are very interesting racing venues. Singapore and Japanese are very conservative countries and have very little in the way of gambling vice. Neither have casinos (wouldn't really count Singapore's as locals are discouraged) Both are run tightly and are well monied. Hong Kong is a bit different. Casinos are across the water in Macau but the Chinese love a night out of their little apartment at the races to chase their fortune. Actually racing in all 3 is a release from the stress of their society I believe. True, but the exchange rate in the last 2 or 3 years would make it an ideal time to buy in Japan. Never cheaper in this regard.

    General Ignorance

Agree most race horse trainers and those associated with putting in the long hours needed at the track are totally dedicated and hard working types. There are not many "born with a silver spoon in their mouth" types at the race track at 5.30am!

  35. Indeed, dbtab... My account, for months, has had $0.80 in it. Every now and then I get an email saying my account has been 'boosted' by $5 that I have to spend within a few days. Giddy with this newly-acquired wealth, I usually spend it immediately on an even-money sports bet. That my account is back down to $0.80 should tell you I suck at such 'endeavours', ha. But I guess the TAB will be able to claim in its latest glossy report my account is still 'active'...

  37. My good friend Charlie lol. I have a picture of myself and one of his Kiwi Golfer babies. Also a letter from Charlie I will forever keep. I am 39 now. Worked for Charlie at Avondale when I was about 14. Every time I'd call he would say "Racheal Hunter . ..is that you?" Kugal, Sculptured Move, there were so many. He actually poached me from Brad Leity haha who had Mindarie Boy and a few others. Fond memories. As far as I know he is still living in Mt Roskill. One in a million. A character I'll never forget

  38. Another dashing chestnut was Kalgoorlie. He won 25 races from 107 starts. At five he won a remarkable 9 races. His first start was at Awapuni on 8/4/67 and his last at Wanganui on 9/2/74.

  40. Of all the Rosehill Group races held these last few weeks, tell me who didn't deserve their win? She Will Reign was favourite for weeks and won the Slipper from another Group winning filly in Frolic. The NZ Derby winner, who is adept on good or bad ground, won the Rosehill Guineas, the Group placed Jon Snow won last week. Winx kicked the crap out of everything. No rough, wet track hackers won - that I can recall. This weekend the Doncaster and the Derby will be won by very good horses. So I don't think the opening comment of the thread is valid. The C'Ships will be run wet or dry and the cream will come to the top - as it usually does.,

A very good documentary and very well done by Arrowfield Stud, they have been pioneers in the past with the likes of introducing mares in foal to Sunday Silence and enabling Danehill to shuttle. They now have 3 Japanese horses on their stallion roster and have recently sent some of the stud's top mares to be served by Deep Impact
