  3. Your original post just referred to "Mundy". That was the surname of Ashlee who was tragically killed in a fall. There was no reference to "Lisa" but just so you know, Lisa Allpress' maiden name was "Mumby" - two "m"s.

  4. You could've mentioned any other female jockey. Why refer to someone who tragically lost her life in an accident? You probably are a dickhead or else just a lowlife troll. I guess respect doesn't come easy to your sort. And just for the record, you're not funny, clever or entertaining like the genius you're impersonating is. F... off (in the words of the great Billy)

    Jumpouts

See the authorities want all the results recorded now. That will please the odd punter but not sure what relevance they will have . For example horse A could be ridden by a stable hand carringing 72kg and having first jump out whereas horse B could be ridden by a senior jockey carrying 50 kg and have been a race winner already and given a serious gallop. Jumpouts are not run underage same strict conditions as trials so I don't really see the point.

Isn't it strange how the bigger the administrative beast becomes, the more rules and regulations result. We find this in all walks of life. Health and Safety, the RIU, ACC, spring to mind. What it is, is the swamp trying to justify its existence.

    Sergio fighting for his life

HI "hound fan" Maybe you should know your facts before you post Craig is one of the most generous peespple I know, especially when it comes to greyhounds.Over the years he has been heavily involved in race sponsorship and helping clubs out He and his wife have even held charity events to raise money for greyhounds. And no one cares for CRAIG'S Greyhounds more than Craig. I can even recall when one of our/his dogs didn't make it to races it went to home. While she was there ,strawberry developed an eye injury and required surgery.Craig donated extensively through the give a little page and later to ensure she got the treatment and care she needed. THIS isn't the only time he's gone above and beyond for his dogs. I'm sure you and your business must perfect to be throwing stone

You'd think they'd do something useful and productive ( for punters ) like weighing every horse at plate inspection time pre-race, then publish/announce significant weight changes. That'd be cheap and inexpensive, and it'd be useful and generate punting interest, but then again we don't really do productive or useful things at NZTR.

    Jumpouts

Mr Big Stuff, I am sorry say that you could be mislead. For example I had a horse jump out with three others on Friday at Cambridge at the Cambridge Jump Outs. It was purely for educational purposes. They ran down the back straight and pulled up when they reached the bend. Where it finishes I have no idea. What I do know is that the trainer said, it and the others all did what he wanted them to do. The two year old was there purely educational purposes. Hopefully he will go to the trials in two or three weeks where it will be fully reported. If what I have just explained is now going to cost us more money as part of the educational process, I say that people who thought this up and sanctioned it are plane stupid. Now if you are talking about the Jump Outs that they hold regularly at Levin, that's a different matter as they are as close to the Official Trials as you can get. Maybe the ones in New Plymouth are the same. More clarification is needed.

  11. If you've got the money to outlay in the first place then I guess there's money to be made, Brodie. With a healthy bank balance and an inkling for a bit of a thrill, it could be quite profitable over time. I don't know how often $1.04 shots would go around. But let's use the guy last night as an example. $40k at $1.04 to make $1,600 - on face value, Lazarus was never going to get beaten. He's the best horse in Australasia and was racing horses most people have probably never heard of. So our $40k man makes $1,600. Let's say he does that three times a week - that's $4,800 profit - or $250,000 odd per year. A pretty nice turnaround when you look at it and best of all? You don't have to pay the Tax Man. Personally, if I was in that position. I wouldn't be backing horses to win. I'd be finding three horses each week I was extremely confident would run a Top 3 at those sort of odds and going that way, thus minimizing the risk slightly. Man, it seems easy when you look at it that way doesn't it. With my $40,000 today, I'm going $40,000 FF place on Don Domingo at $1.05 to make $2,000 and then $40,000 FF place on Sheeza GNP at $1.10 to make $4,000. I'll either look like a fool, or I'll prove that with a hefty bank balance behind you, you can potentially earn a living betting the way that you struggle with.

    Breeding Industry - Sales

Apart from the underlying cause (poor domestic racing environment), it's ok to have a "buyers" market now and then. If you think horse sales have had a bad year, what's going to be the effect when the inevitable collapse of the Real Estate "House of Cards" occurs ?

  16. Beats me why this site people smear at anyone who has success or are passionate it's not up to Gary to pay any money towards Sergio or anyone but the current owner, fact. But he has a big heart and so do others chipping in, well done to all involved in helping. Then all of a sudden someone on a keyboard starts throwing crap at Mr Rendle, get a life worry about your own crap I say, oh and before giving me crap I rehome my dogs and only haven't if the dog is not safe to rehome and mostly they are. Let me tell you Crouch is very territorial fact good luck jumping my fence lol. Anyway get well Sergio cheers WB

    Thieving TAB

On the contrary, you're missing the whole point of the why the TAB exists, which is to distribute profits to the sports they support. To be doing anything other than maximising profits and minimising losses would be a dereliction of their responibility to their stakeholders. This whole "sense of entitlement" mentality about fixed odds is ridiculous. As with any other business, they sell a product for which they name a price. You either buy or shop somewhere else. The TAB are under no obligation to offer you greater odds, just because you think you're "entitled" to a greater chance of winning.

  21. After two days of the Select Sale it's a mess. The aggregate is down from 19.2 million to just over 14.0 million with slightly more catalogued and far less actually sold. Thats over 5 million gone from the industry just like that. It's a 27% drop in income for the participants. The fallout this time will be horrible. Last year everyone got a reprieve with the first rise in five years or thereabouts and now this.! I wish Bill English, Nathan Guy, Glenda Hughes and John Allen had been there for the last two days rather than Monday, then they might finally understand, if that is possible! I say, apply the same percentage drop to the staff of the Racing Board, both income and numbers, then our Industry might just have a chance

    1977 music.

Listened to Graham Hill and Grant Smithies on Radio Live last night review the NZ music charts of 1977. Apart from the Eagles,Stevie Wonder.Al Stewart and a couple of others that year produced some shite music, although it was good to hear NZ band Golden Harvest. Thank god 1977 was one of my heavier drinking years and i missed most of the garbage that was being served up.

    Shit surfaces spreading

I read this review of the Vector performance before we went. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=11795155 This was pretty much a repeat except they played a solid two hours with no real intermission. The only thing resembling one was when the hoped for lively response to Mexico didn't happen and seemingly overzealous Red Badge security personnel started threatening those that were on their feet dancing in the aisles, he waved good-bye and took the band off stage. That got the crowd going and when he came back he noted that and said we WANT you on your feet, why don't you come down the front here. I'm sure it won't be a problem. Security backed off and no-one was seated for the final 20-30 minutes. Perhaps GV should engage him? He can still rock a bit and the voice I swear is as silky as when I first heard it circa 1969. Yes, the backup group were superb, polished and apparently faultless. Lead, bass, trumpet, sax, drums, south american style percussion, grand piano/keyboard and 3 outstanding back up singers. All got a chance for a cameo and none disappointed.

Peter, I know you are a regular at Te Rapa, the food is seriously below par isn't it?. If you have been going for as long as we both have you know that chips and a hot dog are safe to eat, but shit would you eat a reheated pie from there?. In fact i went to Te Teko last Monday and the food was fabulous, why cant a premier venue like Te Rapa get this most basic thing right.

  42. They should move the whole Sales Series to NZ Derby time and dodge Chinese NewYear forever. It make total sense to me. It gives our horses a bit more time too or at least stops them from beginning subjected to a Sales prep so early in their immature life. I see it as a win win for everyone.

    CE report

So plan B1 which you alluded to several times prior to the meeting turned out to be a non-runner and we are left with plan B2. If the NZRB board go with that, I'd be running a mile. That's akin to a public company paying dividends to shareholders based on forecast earnings three years hence. Irresponsible and close to fraudulent. If they do, then Nathan Guy should march in there and sack the whole bloody lot of them on the spot and appoint a new fiscally responsible and wagering industry wise and experienced new board. We all know what happened last time RB distributions and TR stakes were based on a set of RB forecasts. It all came to a bitter end at the end of 2010 after squillions of RB reserves had been squandered and NZTR reserves completely depleted. Free racing was abandoned never to be seen again, and the reality that we had to live within our means set in. I have an equal disregard for the forecasts in Plan A as I did for the evidently non-existent Plan B1. If the forecast 50-60m turns out to be 15-20m I think we will be lucky. We can realistically expect real RB distributions in 2020 similar to this year and NZTR should stick to their knitting instead of making desperate pleas to others to mitigate their incompetence.

    CE report

but what? I still don't see the point in outsourcing the entire business for 30m p.a. gain when the NZRB plan is forecasting double that. Not that I trust for a minute either set of figures.

Too much product.... Supply versus Demand..... As we see from the weekly NZTR numbers blurb sheet , total starts are down 5 % season to date .Some smart 'Cafer can probably post how Total starts have tracked over the last decade...but Cubity only seems to recall red percentage numbers in that category for yonks . China is fickle.....Queenstown tourist numbers falling allegedly recently due to ridiculous prices....Mrs Cubes says don't think these people are stupid . Long and short of it...less thoroughbreds need to be foaled annually

    Breeding Industry - Sales

Karaka is a lot worse than it appears on paper. There are vendors literally withdrawing horses on the day to avoid humiliation, Some vendors are really only moving stock by keeping significant shares in the animals, it's not fair to name those vendors but one in particular is a big player. There's no other way to look at this than as an absolute vote of no confidence in the insouciant attitude of both NZTR and the NZRB, and as the astute judges in the industry have been predicting for some time, the chickens are definitely coming home to roost. What now ? that's the question, these horses that haven't sold have to go somewhere, surely they can't be recycled and pollute the R2R sale again. If you're a small time stud with an average stallion, well your future must be gloomy indeed, and if you're a small time breeder who mates the odd mare, well you may as well cash up and move on because this is only going to get worse and there's no point producing something no one wants. The only blue sky I can see is China, we so need them to start buying a couple of thousand yearlings a year off us or we're absolutely fooked. At least now every sector has been smashed and abused, and hopefully that'll translate into united action if the NZRB meeting in March doesn't deliver an instant 15 million. I guess the other way of looking at this is that it was a necessary correction, a shake out, but you do hate to see the pain that goes with that correction.
