There's nothing stopping a criminal charge from being filed in the crowns justice system for the charge the RIU decided to drop. It'd only take a phone call from Nathan to the police. To me that's the most serious breach of any rule/law unveiled in the investigation. If a settlement was offered in lieu of a criminal court trial proceeding, it surely would help out a battling trainer much more than a drug assisted win on any track.3 points -

Also, maybe the Association could ring the main media outlets tomorrow and suggest another contacts details for comment on these matters.....asking aaron cross to comment is absolutely no different to them doing a story on anti whaling then crossing over to the Japanese government for their opinion!3 points -

TRACKSIDE CLOCK
Los Lobos and 2 others reacted to Peter Jenkins for a topic
Actually I am convinced the TAB website clock runs about 1 minute late. Never bothered to check and find out. I have watched it click over to a start time only to find when I switch over on the telly that the race is half run and yet when you watch TV live, NZ races seem to inevitably start a minute or two over time. It is most likely done deliberately in some plot to increase turnover but would have the opposite effect causing many to miss out on placing bets. Being a watcher of NZ TAB coverage from the western side of the ditch I can never understand why starters in NZ are so tardy at getting races underway. The thing is that if they run a minute or two late, Sky TV here in Oz just switch to whatever is coming up next and the NZ race is replayed later (most times). This is a dis-incentive for Oz-based punters to bet on NZ races thru' Super TAB and ultimately costs the NZ industry turnover and dollars. For God's sake just start loading 90 seconds earlier and it would fix the problem.3 points -

You need to get up to Breeders Stakes day at Te Aroha. You can BYO. Out the back under the trees near the stabling area, you can also see the horses walk through to the birdcage, we have a second large screen (the main one which bigger is out the front). Music is played throughout the day in that area and there are areas set out for those wanting to entertain guests etc as well. Totes are out there, six permanent and another two mobile caravan windows. The area is a buzz all day in a tree covered setting and those totes each year do the most turnover of any other area on-course with the owners/trainers bar totes second best performers. There are areas throughout the course that enable great viewing of the races. Incidentally the cost of hiring a big screen for the day is around $7,000. It is our biggest day of the year, incredibly our only Saturday date and we work bloody hard to make it a success. We welcome feedback and any ideas how to improve the day further will certainly be looked at. When people leave at the end of the day we want to hear them say "had a great day, we will be back." BarryB, some more port-a-loos are being brought in next year. We don't want you to have to go behind any trees.2 points

So a greyhound board member suggests they use a substance that hes aware is not being tested for by the riu. Call me cynical, but come on,this is what vets do every day. The riu make a big deal of how closely they work with the veterinary association. In other words, keep them informed when testing for the latest performance enhancer will start, thus avoiding unwantedpublicity, such as in this case. That's the real world. Only when the RIU introduce retrospective testing on "every" sample held in storage for any trainer found with a positive, will this change. And we all know that's the last thing the RIU would want to do.2 points -

Bit embarrassed by the build-up - had a bit of beginner's luck in the Autumn Comp but that's about it. Up against a hardened and very successful campaigner - have myself as a 2:1 underdog but will be trying my best. ps. already missing the Auckland scene - life not the same without the chai soy lattes, the inorganic collections, and the ath-leisure wear!2 points -
True. I wonder though, how many other trainers have had "stand-over" tactics used? Good on you Nathan2 points

So, we have two names (Gonasyn & Fertagyl) of permanently banned drugs, the question has to be asked, how many "B" samples are still kicking around from the last year or so's big races? Maybe it's time to have another look at those samples. It's also well documented that Nathan wasn't the only trainer of dogs, during the same time period, owned either completely or partially David Scott. Those would be the "B" sample I'd be looking at first if I were calling the shots at the RIU lab.2 points

This family goes back to the 'blue hen' mare Malva, and what an amazing mare she was. Only 15 hands high, but the dam of derby winners Blenheim and King Salmon, and also of His Grace. Blenheim of course is the sire of Mumtaz Begum, the dam of Nasrullah. Breeders in New Zealand will also be familiar with this family, as Malva is the 3rd dam of champion sire Summertime, the fourth dam of NZ half brother sires Crest of the Wave and Palm Beach, and now the 9th dam of both Jakkalberry and Power. This family has been extremely successful 'down under' and it would be no surprize if both Jakkalberry and Power continued this success with this great thoroughbred line.2 points

It's an interesting (albeit frustrating) application of statistics. If you did four draws in a row, the chance of a dog getting box 1 would be tiny - a fraction of 1%. However, each draw is a discrete random event so the change of a dog drawing box 1 the NEXT draw is still the same - 12.5% regardless of what has happened in the past. It's literally the luck of the draw.1 point

It's been a couple of months since this topic was last visited. Ascot greyhounds are an hour & a bit from the first race today. Will the 390m races be electronically started? Hand started? Some form of #8 wire combination of the two as in the past? The last post on the RIU's twitter feed was about harness racing from two days ago. https://twitter.com/riuorgnz?ref_src=twsrc^tfw GRNZ website - no help. https://www.thedogs.co.nz/Home.aspx The newest posting on the Club's websites news section was 20 months ago. http://southlandgreyhounds.co.nz/news/ However, the TAB is more than willing to accept uninformed punts. https://www.tab.co.nz/racing/#2016-04-19-m3-r11 point

So in this meeting of board members are there others that own many dogs? like to punt? and did they also hear that there is no testing of testosterone? in my opinion the whole board should resign to maintain integrity! it seems to me that D Scott is the only one who has got caught. You can't tell me that D Scott is the only one who acted in this way upon hearing this 'inside information'. How do we know others with much invested in the code sitting at the same meeting haven't also passed on or acted on this information? impossible to know, can stored samples be retrospectively tested? it stinks and they should all stand down until all tests come back!1 point -
totally agree with you kakama. I trained my only winner at a lowly Tuesday meeting at addington some years ago. I was also the owner. I have the photo, the video of the prerace race discussion and the birdcage after the race. Have owned a few more winners since and still try and get the pre race discussion and any birdcage stuff. Proud moments that I can reflect on. Im never going to own or win a group race but my involvement is about a love of the sport. Its got too expensive to keep going even training my own is a money draining exercise but I can look back on the best feeling, so it wasn't the derby or the NZ cup but it was a win. Most exciting thing in racing,1 point

They need to be casting their net wide, that is the RIU. Testing old samples from any trainer that was a known acquaintance or associate of Scott should be a no brainer. I hope the RIU cut a deal with Scott for the dropping of the charge, that is for other names.1 point -
As i understand it GOM, bitch's are tested, dogs are not. No threshhold levels established for dogs. The authorities have only had about ten years to establish a threshhold, not to mention many overseas study's that would have one in place. They have been able to detect steroids in human athletes, males, since before Ben Johnson. Just more shoddy work from administration.1 point

Saturday was the first time I didn't attend a Hawkes Bay major meeting in years. Simple reason is I'm getting sick of the basic info on course that's available to use . When your punting the instant access to your I pad computer TV etc is so much superior to standing on course looking at an old TV screen and waiting till 3 mins before the race jumps to see the updated FF odds. Why each club doesn't have a members club where you can go along and replicate the advantages of home is beyond me with the advantage of seeing the horses in the flesh .1 point -

Some of them seem to think the start time is the loading time PJ.. Most of the races, particularly better ones, are the worst. Then you get something playing up and you are 2-3+minutes late. The time hardly ever gets made up either, so compounds the problem your end probably.1 point -

Heaven Rocks
LongOwner reacted to Thejanitor for a topic
Yes, she is a very good horse but the winning factor was that the filly was driven like the she was the best horse in the race. Probably the most impressive winners of the day were Nek Time, Heaven Rocks and Costa Del Magnifico. These drives had something in common: they were all driven aggressively and put into the race early and it paid off. These days you cannot sit back in the field admiring the scenery and hope to sprint home from the back to win. Only the very best horses, Have Faith In Me, Lazarus, Christian Cullen etc, can do that, the rest have to be handy or they are only running for place money.1 point -

I personally think that Puha has, in a very timely manner, dropped a clanger on us. Thank you Puha. I missed that these submissions needed to be made and before the 29th May. Do all of you realise that they are considering changing the Racing Act, and that the proposed changes are within the content of the link provided by Puha? The approach is scary at the very least. So I propose the following. 1. I will create an entity known as the Horseman's Group; 2. I would like to receive nominations/ applications for appropriate and/ or interested parties to become part of the Horseman's Group; 3. The acceptance of the Horseman's Group members will be totally transparent but it would be good to get CV's; 4. The members need to be a mix of old and new, availability and cover most of the appropriate bases relating to the horse, the industry, technology and governance; 5. The first thing the Horseman's Group will do is review the current governmental proposition in respect of the proposed changes to the Act. My email address is berrischroder@gmail.com Time something was done properly and with a common voice.1 point

I have a letter on my wall from Brian Murray, who was the then CEO of the TAB in 1994, who wrote this to me in response to Patrick Hogan's, Dave O'Sullivan's and my proposition that we made to the RIB and TAB in 1994... "Thank you very much for your proposition to market and distribute betting on the internet. Although we feel the proposition has some merit, we do not believe that the TAB's customers will embrace the internet for betting purposes as much as you do."1 point

Cassie Fahey
jimmyintheruck reacted to Alphonse-Gabriel for a topic
Cassie Fahey was poor when she started. Would routinely get the race callers in W.A mixed up with the callers in Queensland. I heard her give a pointless cue card preview for the wrong race. Two of the numbers she tipped for the upcoming race were actually scratched. Yes,she has improved since then but certainly needed to. I wish someone would pull her aside and tell her that rolling up her sleeves and flicking her pen does not equate to a woman who really knows her stuff despite what another female presenter believes. If she is a good horse racing and gambling presenter then we have set the bar very low. I don't understand the high praise Elizabeth receives. Yes,she is easy on the eye and does a great job with the dogs which is obviously her passion. The rest is awful in my opinion. She is another who believes non stop monotone monologue where you don't ever come up for air is going to encourage me to listen and or bet. It has the obvious effect and only hurts my ears. I can't believe that on a NZ television channel, horse racing or otherwise it is acceptable to butcher the English language the way she constantly does. Nowhere in the world have I ever heard a presenter so strongly emphasis the second syllable of a word. It's cringe-worthy but apparently now totally acceptable to the point other presenters are actually copying her. Listen to her use the word "today". It is now "to-DAY" First to acknowledge it's not easy to know chapter and verse about every runner in every race you present but surely that is what you're paid for? Stating the obvious that punters would already know anyway helps nobody. I'm also not a big fan of Marc Cookson but he can at least add some info to the picture albeit perfunctory.1 point -
Yes you are probably right Chelseacol. We should not be so judgemental. Hopefully she can adopt her on style. At the end of the day, its the pictures that count.1 point
