Well it appears I do know a little bit, good to see the stipes get this one right. HOMEBUSH LUCIFER was very slow to begin losing four lengths but he ran on well to finish in 3rd place. AZURE DREAMS shifted in abruptly from the start and checked DEATHSTAR which was briefly unbalanced but recovered to win the race. OPAWA LACHLAN shifted in going into the bend and checked MAGIC DANDY which lost four lengths. TELL THE BOYS led going to the first corner but appeared uncomfortable in his galloping action and drifted to finish in 5th place and was referred to the Vet for assessment. TELL THE BOYS was cleared of injury but under the provisions of Rule 80.1 is required to complete a satisfactory trial before being eligible to compete in a totalisator race.

Dear me Nerula, I suppose it comes down to: do a person's shortcomings and dishonest dealings outweigh the good he/she may have done? In my opinion, they do. If you are going to move your goal posts of honesty how far do you move them? It's o.k. to lie in relation to the Horse Of The Year? O.k. to lie about cheating on your wife/husband?? O.k. to lie about cheating at golf?? O.k. to lie about running over the neighbour's dog?? Where is the line drawn??? Once you have moved the goal posts, the distance is irrelevant. Besides, he may be 'a nice bloke' but I have difficulty equating a 'nice bloke' with a liar. Before any of you ask, I can stand with hand on heart, without fear of God striking me down, and say I have never lied about anything or to anybody. That doesn't mean I am 'holier than thou' but my conscience is very clear on honesty and principle. Be good if Simple Simon's was. Besides Nerula, 'being a Secretary in a Corporate sense' does not give you the right to disregard perceived standards of honesty.

Nerula... I was not a "functionary"...I was the manager of the Manawatu Greyhound Racing Club and take full responsibility for what happened on the management side of the MGRC's activities. I stand behind what I did but the current situation is pretty much as you have described it. However, to say that I should have sympathy for a devious, dishonest liar and cheat is manifestly incorrect. Further, I find it almost farcical that you seem to think an involvement in the Thoroughbred Owners Association is something you can be proud of. The vast majority of thoroughbred owners are being, effectively, rorted by the stakes structure and costs charged while the said Association has no material influence of any kind. You should be ashamed but, instead, you parade your impotency as a badge of honour. Your, previous, sycophantic support for those who are lying to us daily and cheating us on a daily basis is something I have found sickening, especially given that you are an intelligent and passionate racing person who, in my opinion, should clearly know better. It is said that for evil to triumph, it requires only for good men to do nothing. Evil triumphs even more easily when good men delude themselves and then attempt to delude others. We are well rid of Mr Cooper. There are many others in similar positions in the racing industry who need to go as well before there will be any realistic chance of change in the way that our racing industry is managed. All the best. Ashoka

The view I expressed above does not represent my overall view of the Thoroughbred Owners Association. I am a member of this Association and value my membership. I enjoy reading the publications that I receive and know that the Association does what it can. I fully appreciate the efforts that those involved in the racing industry make to improve things for all participants and my attempted putdown of Nerula was ill-judged, incorrect and in very bad taste indeed. The sad fact is that we are all impotent, at this time, when it comes to making material changes for the better in the racing industry, me more than most. I have nothing but admiration for those who keep fighting against the current in the interests of us all. I am now going to retire to the Main Street Café and listen to some of the great music in a thread on that Forum. The posters in that thread are all good people so I will stand at the back and try to hide in the corner. Thank you. Ashoka

  6. Thanks for your contribution. Have you ever watched a bad movie? In the middle of all the shit races was the 50k Renshaw Cup from Penrith and Greg Eurell having two horses going around at Pakenham that I'd been given the word on. Must not have been in my right mind to have punted them and watched both win. Easy for some to slid out from under their rock and throw predictable passive aggressive fluff but have you got anything of value to contribute on the topic of irresponsible programming targeting compulsive gamblers? No? then feel free to return to your embroidery. I gamble responsibly just like I drink responsibly. There are however many punters out there who have issues with their gambling and it's always their families who pay the real price. I really enjoy racing on TV but the format structure is very obviously targeting compulsive gamblers. I believe that is irresponsible in exactly the same way it would be to sell discount liquor outside of AA meetings.

You my friend are in la la land 1st you think you can pick the right dog in the race then change your mind when you see it is strapped, if you look at the form guide you would no it was always going to be strapped and most of the dogs have been strapped in previous starts. Secondly you can tell if a dog is chasing or injured from your armchair and can tell the stewards how to do there job. Then you follow up by saying the trainer should check there dogs better have them fit to races as in your eyes they are not. But hey don't stop there you become a vet to and judge there job to. Bugger me mate just give up the punt clearly you are a poor judge.

I take it maths is not a strong suit for both I Know and Sairy, so just for the pair of you i will spell it out. Today a dog named Homebush Baily started its career at age 14 mths. It was whelped February 2015. The bitch which I know is referring to, and trained by Ray Adcock, and is named Hannah Rhiannon, was whelped Nov 2014 and is 17mths old. I think there is a substantial difference in age sex and weight. The dog weighs 29 kg's, the bitch weighs 23 kg's. No double standards here, just stupidity.

    Is it responsible?

Who cares what name he uses , we all use something other than our real name so why not change it regularly. Whatever the name used he/she is a valued contributer IMO. The TAB is driving me #u&%ing mad with the changes they are making , on the whole if they have changed 100 things in the past 3 years then I can only say 4 or 5 have been improvements. I am literaley at my wits end in frustration. The improvements I see are in the website , online info , betting options and SOME meeting coverage. Wall to wall races swaping meetings before the judges call or a small wrap up is beyond a joke AND SOONER OR LATER THE TAB WILL UPSET NZ CLUB SPONSORS WHO don't get a fair deal . An example of this would be an Alex Park meeting with sponsors XXXXZ gets chopped of after the 3rd horse is declared to cross over for an Aussie dog race with a sponsors sign " Willies Funeral Services. " and NZ win pool of $1.8K

The problem with the management of the racing industry is the palpable lack of integrity we all have to put up with. This person proved himself to not only be involved in a blatant rort, but also to have lied about the matter and then be utterly dismissive of this involvement. He showed a marked disdain towards those whom he was employed to serve and represent. Those who are prepared to overlook conduct of this kind deserve what they get. This person would have been sacked in disgrace by any reputable organisation. Not in New Zealand. The problem with liars is that you don't know when they are lying and when they are not. Those of you who are prepared to just overlook what this person did are one of the main the reasons why our industry is in free-fall. This person spat in all our faces. Those of you who are prepared to take this type of conduct and just turn the other cheek are not men, in my opinion. You deserve what we are all getting...the rest of us don't. Well I thought I was quite smart actually, I saw it was strapped to the hilt so decided not to back it, much like Legerdemain later in the night, thought it looked a good bet from box 1 but it was strapped everywhere as well, flew out for 20m then ended up near last after not getting touched. I think Come On Ref is right when saying they should get these dogs right instead of relying on some strapping and tape to get the dogs through the races, maybe the vetting of some of these dogs leaves a lot to be desired as well?

Give me a break Ashoka. He may have lied , hasn't everyone? But in 12 years of work or whatever it is, that's all anyone can remember about his time there? That's being a bit precious I'm afraid. For 12 years he held down the job , if he was as untrustworthy or as ineffective as many are making him out to be then he wouldn't have made the 12 years. The lasting impression you may have of him might be what youre talking about with regards to the Wahid DB saga , but in my dealings with him he has been professional, courteous and competent and unlike others on here I wish him the best in his future endeavours. Seems to depend who you are as to whether or not your contribution to the industry is considered worthwhile, there is a recent incidence on here of a couple bringing racing in to serious disrepute under what can only be described as laughable circumstances, but any adverse opinions on that are not allowed of course but may have been had they worked for NZTR.

I saw John Allen(The person you need to write to) at Ellerslie on Derby Day I said I would like to speak to him about this particular subject which I am hot underr the collar about especially since six weeks prior I had written direct to Supertab to find out what the delay was and they stated it was to do with NZ which was contrary to advice I had received from someone in NZ.I must admit that John Allen sat down with me for 15 minutes and he advised it should be sorted out by the end of june and that there were legal issues?I also said the guaranteed pools were a insult to our intelligence and that the punters who have opened Australian accounts will never come back.Writing on this forum achieves little . If nothing happens at the end of June I will be following this up.I would love to know how much this is costing the racing clubs in lost profits from the TAB and how much the TABs racing turnover is down.I find in NZ no one on racing shows and especially racing journalsits are prepared to ask the hard questions because they are busy protecting their own jobs why has someone not done a indept article and stated what is actually happening. In any other corporate body they would have had a team working on this 24 hours a day till it was sorted my feeling is that they do not want to sort it out

Let's be honest the said trainer is really a dog farmer and just races the dogs as much as they can without real strategies, just by looking at the racing records of the greyhounds I say this without prejudice as the record book certainly indicates this. But I'm not judging just what it seems. NZGRA needs to put rules in place that protect the industry as a whole. Saying that it will protect all, Dogs, Owners, staff, public and trainers in all aspects. Making sure minimum age to start racing, owners paid direct their share, like in NSW, not that I have a problem with my current trainers as I'm more than happy. Maximum amount of starts in 10 days, according to distance of races, this is just a few things needing addressing. Any thuggery at all by trainer or owner or staff public on any track immediate stand down or warned off or law notified if video proof shows this without doubt. It is so cheap to install which protects all parties from false or true altercations, not that I've had any. This is a fantastic sport, industry we all need to protect it, stop spending on products that are just rubbish, just a few thoughts. All the best cheers

  32. It duly romped in at it's next start As most of you may be aware I recently returned from a two year stint working in Australia where part of my job was micro-chipping, earbranding and marking up puppies. I mainly looked after the Southern region of NSW which included Paul Wheeler's pups during that period. Micro-chips can migrate and often do however as they are implanted between under the skin betw the skin layers so it's impossible for them to migrate into muscle or joints. In my time I have never seen nor heard of any occurrences of this happening including historical checks. Although I suppose it would be possible if they were implanted incorrectly i.e: intramuscularly or via a severe trauma whereby the skin and muscle was wounded or punctured in some way. The micro-chip manufacturers actually recommend that pups be kept quiet and virtually alone for 72 hours after implantation so as to give the skin time to heal over and around the barb so it attaches properly to avoid this. We all know this is impractical and virtually impossible and pups simply jumping on or bumping against each other can dislodge the chip. It is possible for them to come out and I myself detected or came across around twenty dogs in that time where this had occurred,.usually during kennelling. It actually happened to one of my own Aussie imports here in NZ. They are re-chipped as soon as practically possible and generally that day/night after they have raced, if they were allowed to start or before they leave the course if they were scratched. Before anyone asks why some might be scratched and some not the reason is because there are three forms of identification being Micro-chip, Earbrands and Markings. The rules allow for stewards to allow a greyhound to start if they are satisfied that two of the three are correct. Therefore if a micro-chip is missing and the earbrands and colour and markings are right then the stewards will generally let them go around. Naturally there are sceptics and conspiracy theories out there and there is nothing to stop someone from removing and or changing a micro-chip whether it be for an unscrupulous reason or just for the sake of it or to prove it can be done. However I wouldn't recommend it as they won't get too far and will encounter problems as soon as they try to kennel or race the dog. If the chip is a generic one it will be picked up immediately as it doesn't have the greyhound specific coding. If it is swapped from another greyhound then the earbrand, markings and registration card number will not correspond correctly with the chip allocated to it and the greyhound will be unable to start. Mike I am not doubting you and next time you bring him to Cambridge I would love to see it for myself even if just for my own curiosity. I have one old dog whose chip is located right in the hollow of where he once tore a triceps muscle (often referred to as monkey, egg or pin) but it is between the skin layers and causes him no pain or problems. I did have one trainer claim that the micro-chip in located in his dog's shoulder was causing this dog to ease on corners and it was referred to a vet for examination and was given the all clear. Strangely when we watched it's replays it never eased when it was well clear in front and only ever seemed to ease whenever it was under pressure by another dog or behind runners. Mind you at it's next start, just five days later, it romped in.

  40. Problem is GOM, and i warned them at the time when campaigning against microchipping is, if they thought you could rely solely on the chip as identification then there was nothing stopping crooks swapping chips from a slow dog to a quick one, hence they discovered tattooing was and is still necessary. Bickford in his wisdom thought chipping was great, as he did with his other failure, Rocketship. Just imagine you have a litter of 10, all blacks. You have one dog in the litter that is C5 but is struggling. You have another dog in the litter that can't win a maiden. You remove the chip from the maiden, and put it in the C5 dog, and bobs your uncle. Hence the tattoo. At the time i was working through LP rep Grahem, he will tell you the same. Bickford wouldn't listen. We had a foolproof form of identification that wasn't broke, and had served us faithfully for 60yrs. Now we are saddled with this unnecessary cost.

  41. The commingling agreement between the NZ TAB and Tabcorp came into effect on 30 May 2007 and expired on 30 June 2015. Prior to that expiry date last year, negotiations had started some 18 months prior ie January 2014. NZRB wagering expert Martin Saunders was heavily involved with these negotiations. My understanding after his departure from the NZRB he was brought back as a wagering consultant to deal with the commingling issue. I don't know if he still fills that consultancy position but negotiations to put a new agreement in place have been going on now for almost two and a half years and seemingly no light at the end of the table. The NZRB/TAB have remained virtually silent on the issue. One has to wonder, if they cannot reach agreement after two and a half years, whether there will ever be any agreement reached.

    Strange Dividend

This is a very strange betting pattern. If you look at the betting totals for W/P at Canberra you will see that apart from this race the ratio is never more than 50% place to win and on some races is only 25% place to win, On this race 4 the totals are equal almost to the dollar at about $6000 each. To me this means someone has placed a $3k place bet or more likely has had a successful all up finishing on this race. As you said why place a tote bet when you could get fixed odds of around $6.Some one who took an all up on the earlier races would possibly not have realized how much his success earlier would have changed the divies.

I say that Johnathon because 14/15 mths to be racing a 33 kilo puppy is way to young, and the powers that be need to outlaw this from happening. Obviously you don't seem to get it. And yes i am stirring the pot. When something is clearly wrong, people need to speak up, the animals can't. I suppose because the dog won the non race, we can expect to see it racing every day possible, which is another thing that needs to be addressed.
