  1. And what about Tavistock... VRC Derby, HK Derby and now ATC Derby with three different horses in one season. Great result for the industry!

He is in fact being stopped from earning a living in his chosen field and in many industries this is not allowed. If this is the worst they can find to challenge it makes for very poor judgement especially when the industry is in such disarray. The energy that was put into this investigation would have been better served explaining how other enquiry decisions were made. Just adds fuel to an already burning lack of confidence.

My view is that it was a sledge hammer to kill an ant. For f...s sake there are better ways to solve a little problem. A man still has to earn a living and support his family doesn't he? When society decrees that you have done wrong [and he did] there are not too many opportunities left other than friends, and even then it can turn to custard as it so obviously did. I am glad that I wasn't policeman, judge and jury, as karma never fails, is my experience, all 67 years of it!

who employs these morons, this industry is like the auckland traffic f... up. I spend a lot of time at my club and we have one TV in the games room and I have to forever ask the staff to change the racing channel as one day they have local racing on TS1 and next day they put it on TS2 drives me nuts how stupid this whole industry is run at times.

  11. TOTAL AFTER WEEK 11 = $1312.20 ( $62.40 PER SHARE) chestnut multi $11 Jason quinella $152.60 Jason quinella $13.80 scratching refunds $16.90 ( quinellas & % tris) = $194.30 well not the huge result I expected today but we got off the mark so more money in the kitty. I have decided to just leave the scratching money in the pot instead of reinvesting. Onto next week and Mossey and the lovely Sarah to throw their darts at the board.

  12. Yes, Well done another NZ bred and trained runner takes out the AJC Derby. Congratulations to Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young. Impressive wins by their runners today in both Australia and NZ, Tavago and Mabeel. What a great kick start this will give them when they move to Melbourne in June and of course Trent has already trained the VRC Derby winner with Sangster. Bragging rights now for Trent with a win today over father Paddy. Paddy trained Castletown to run fourth in the race in 1990.

This is my opinion for what its worth. Ray is a successful breeder. He has been breeding animals all his life. Cows, horses, and now dogs. Ray matches his maternal bloodlines to only the best. He only uses his better bitches. His maternal line traces back to Mega Maxi. She won a NZ Oaks whilst in my care on behalf of her owner and trainer Adriane Charters in track record time at Addington. She then added the Canterbury Futurity, and the Auckland Cup. Out of this line came Funny Girl, winner of over $70,000. She left Ninas Girl, conqueror of Swift Fantasy in the Silver Collar. Ninas Girl looks like being brood bitch of the yr judging by the lead she has at present. So in short what i'm trying to point out is, Ray is an astute breeder, and only goe's to the best Sires suited to his bloodlines. In litters of dogs, not all get the same genes, some are strong, some are weak, some are stupid, some are smart, etc. In the scheme of things, nature usually dictates that only the strongest dog becomes the Alpha dog. He will be the one that doe's all the dealing, in this fashion the breed can go forward and not backwards. This Alpha dog will be the prepotent one [ability to throw on right genes] not all have this ability. Its rare to find two dogs in a litter that are equal in the ability to thow on their strength. In the Greyhound world when selecting a Sire, best track performance is usually the guide as to the Alpha dog, the one with the ability to lift the breed. And usually theres only one in the litter. So when the question is put to Ray over DDO as against DV, Rays assessment as breeder is, DDO is the Alpha dog in the litter. But time will tell. I did try going to the brother of a famous dog once, it was a dog by the name of Doughtful Bill, he stood in Queensland and was a brother to the mighty Brother Fox. I got good dogs at the time, but really he just faded away in the breed, and you would be lucky to find him in any pedigrees today, whereas Brother Fox would be everywhere. Brother Fox was the ALPHA dog, and thats why he was so great. Until we see pups on the ground we won't conclusively know who's going to be the best Sire between DDO, and DV, but because DDO has by far the superior record, then he will get the best bitches and in all probability be the better sire and the Alpha in the litter. I hope i havn't ruffled to many feathers, only my opinion. DV has been a great dog in NZ.

    Questions for Mr G Purcell

To expand on your explanation Horace (and thanks for that by the way) plus your opinion re the competancy of GP, don't you think that a responsible CEO would (a) sum up the situation of NZ racing (b) Identify the solutions (c) Present a Plan to the Board of NZTR and obtain approval to implement such Plan? If the Board did not approve it, then the CEO should resign, citing his inability to work with the Board. This would firstly add to his credibility and secondly, it would put the pressure firmly back on the Board of Directors. Let's not kid anyone. Currently, NZ racing is in poor shape for a number of reasons and the NZTR Board should be called to account because they must be satisfied with the direction they are going. The CEO may well fit your description but in the end, he is obviously dancing to the tune of the NZTR Board because it's they who are (or should be) setting the Strategy by which he must work to. As CEO, GP is solely responsible for Operational matters. It's the NZTR Board members who are responsible for the Strategy.

  18. Its not up to me to suggest what could be done, nor did I mean to imply that nobody in the industry has an opinion. I give plenty of kudos to the Individuals that do say something but there's still a long way to go. I'm happy to admit that what I posted was flawed and could've been put across better but at the end of the day I'm only human, it's up to the people that have the collective experience to try and work together and make a bold statement. Picking on certain individuals is not really going have much of an effect at all, let alone picking on other users for mistakes in what they typed and/or how they typed it.

Houndfan, I express my concerns & back it up with evidence, when I notice a GRNZ rule or rules is breached & left unenforced by the RIU. You may think that the rules "make no difference to racing", however I think they make a big difference. Can you please specify exactly which rule you believe is being breached, to quantify your claim "but under our rules it should not be happening"?

Looks like this site is regularly inhabited by wind up merchants and trolls all having a go at each other? Constructive arguments and positive solutions to industry problems and concerns would be better for all concerned, especially the future direction and improvement of the greyhound industry in NZ, that would be a good start? Making unsubstantiated claims is damaging to all concerned and the greyhound industry as a whole. It aint particularly good.

Sorry mate that's it. You can finish this comp and claim whatever "bizarre" prize you may be entitled to, but after that you're not welcome in any comp that I run. I should have followed PJ's lead sooner. No I don't know "damn well" that you have offered to introduce real prize money to this comp. I've never seen this offer - I've asked you on several occasions to put up prize money but you're all talk. We all remember the time you tried to organise your own comp but cried off after a few people sought clarification about your rules (oh the irony in that). I've told you before, and I'll do it again - the people who put the prizes up here are not sponsors of this site - they get nothing for it. I'm happy to do it for the vast majority of people on this Comps forum because they are good people, but people like you questioning the level or type of prize money is beyond comprehension. You should never look a gift horse in the mouth, and unfortunately you did it once too often. So long! Enjoy the moolah on the other channel.

    David Walker

I think that Gloria Kenny's quote of "paid David for Farm Work" should be respected and is outside the jurisdiction of the RIU and JCA. I think the investigators were heavy handed in their approach to the issue and should have contacted Gloria before acting.

Evidently they received a large number of complaints and have had a change of heart and all races at Ellerslie and Awapuni are now on TS1. At least they have listened but never should have scheduled them differently in the first place.

Life is what you make it Canelo. You make your bed - you lay in it. Too many people look outside themselves looking for reasons for their discontent, whereas, the answer lays within. The mirror is a wonderful tool and a great provider of the truth. Looking into it, one can often see both the problem and the solution! Maybe a box of mirrors need to be sent to Petone? A second box could be distributed amongst the major Breeders and Players? Looking into the mirror shoul be compulsory from a young age - especially the above mentioned ! Who sold the TAB? The Industry. Who controls Racing in NZ? The Industry. Who can make the big changes necessary to get it into shape? The Industry. Who benefits if the Industry does this? The Industry. It's time for some serious looks into the mirror. Blaming a non-descript ineffective Racing Minister is not the answer. Don't even send him a mirror - he's probably got plenty but can't find any answers in The Mirror. Send one to the "real" power players. What they do with the mirror is another thought......:(
