    Auckland

After having a few days to think about the happenings at Auckland on Sunday I have come up with what I think are the major problems. Firstly why is the track being prepared for racing on the morning of the races? I believe it is a catalyst for concern and critisizim from trainers when they see it in this state. Also there is absolutely no way a track should be prepared for racing that close to a meeting.I understand the curator does not work Saturdays which to me seems rediculous when the club races Sundays. Secondly I noticed when the tractor was going around it was shuddering up and down in places which obviously means the track surface is uneven. If anyone has the dogzone recorded you will see it on there.I believe if the tractor is doing this it means there are hard soft patches all round the track and a slight unevenness.John did say the track gets laser levelled 3 times a year which is a must for all tracks. Thirdly I don't know why I have never noticed this before but looking down the back straight form the sprint boxes the rail disappears into a "corner".In my opinion that is causing a lot of the interference on that bend.I think there is an urgent need for a transitional bend to be put in. The greyhound tracks are the engine room of this sport and should and must be the major focus for this industry to continue to survive and prosper. NZGRA must find some industry money and get to work on providing safer tracks and improve how our tracks are curated. These are just my opinions but would like some constructive feedback. AC

    Purcell's spiel FFS

Yeh Early said " more swerves than a racing car" after talking to Purcell. He comes across as a complete boof head and what a waffler Why do we hire these incompetent Ausies. The only decent thing to come out of Aussie in the last 20 years is "The Castle"

DREAM ABOUT ME What Aussie media say.

Just to whet your appetite for this Sundays racing, how the Aussie media are rating D A Me. And just look at that last 800 unbelievable and a 3 year old. This Dream Princess is the heir apparent 22 February 2016 Our Dream About Me winning the second of the NSW Oaks heats on Saturday night. Photo by Ashlea Brennan. RACE nine at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday night was the final race on a big card and short priced favourite Our Dream About Me won the second heat of the NSW Oaks. While the victory itself was expected, as the filly is yet to taste defeat, the closing sectionals the daughter of Bettors Delight ran were something out of the ‘Twilight Zone’. At the end of 2400 metres, Our Dream About Me reeled off a personal last half of 52.53. For those not accustomed to the Menangle sectionals that is literally ‘low flying’. Only three other horses broke 54 seconds for their final 800 metres on Saturday night. Sophies Ideal ran home in 53.93 when finishing 7th in the Robin Dundee Classic, while Rocknroll Music (53.33) and Gina Grace (53.91) competed against Our Dream About Me and were both brave in defeat. However, comparing the times to the Chariots Of Fire meeting makes for even more compelling reading. The conditions at Menangle for the Chariots program were ideal for fast times. It was still and hot and the times reflected the perfect conditions. The Chariots Of Fire was won by Have Faith In Me in 1:48.8 and here are the closing halves for the three horses that broke 54 seconds. Have Faith In Me 53.36 Lord Zin Zan 53.92 Arms Of An Angel 52.73 Two qualifiers of the Miracle Mile were also run at the meeting. Here is a list of horses that broke 54 seconds. Cordina Sprint Monifieth 52.86 My Hard Copy 53.33 Coca Cola Amatil Sprint Beautide 53.60 Blazin N Cullen 53.26 Easy On The Eye 53.63 Major Crocker 53.94 Our Hi Jinx 53.51 Suave Stuey Lombo 53.91 Cold Major 53.75 Not only is Our Dream About Me giving age away to all of the horses mentioned above but she also had to race over 2400 metres compared to the Chariots, Cordina and Coca Cola Amatil Sprints being contested over the 1609 metres. She is bred to be a star – her older half brother Christen Me has already won the Chariots/Miracle Mile double and Our Dream About Me’s mother Splendid Dreams is a sister to Adore Me and Have Faith In Me. A win in Sunday’s NSW Oaks would see Our Dream About Me’s prizemoney go past $550,000, a remarkable achievement for a filly that will have only raced on twelve occasions. For the sake of the harness racing ‘kingdom’ let’s hope this Princess ascends to the throne and continues to compete for seasons to come.

I should also like to balance my rant out as well. I had one of the best experiences at Ellerslie on Karaka Millions afternoon this year. The event was hosted by the TAB and Ellerslie, supplied I pads for punting, Beer for lubing the joints and prawns to increase girth size. All I'm asking for is a simple reply.

I hope that Castles can do well at Hawkes Bay Puha as the Club deserves it. However, Castles got off to a poor start with his comments when the Group One day was callled off. At least Rutherford took the blame for Waikato the other week. Castles may have been the employee of The ARC but surely as Racing Manager he would have significant input into decisions. After Derby Day was a failure you would not expect him to be declarng the day a success on Weigh In. He liked to knock other clubs on Weigh In whilst his was non performing. He rubbished Otaki for having a 4 horse race saying that the race should have been called off. The next week his club had a 5 horse race for a $40k stake. Of course he was silent on that.

Has the Welfare Officer been seen of or even heard from .? I reckon the starting date for our new C.E.O. is critical. Let's keep these bludgers resting on their morals, on the hop and get some constructive results for the betterment of us all concerned...

    Auck cup- thoughts?

To be honest I am sick and tired of Gary and Wassa turning these threads into little 13yo girl bitch fights. Get a life you guys and take it to personal messenger!!! Gets so tedious after 5 years+ of reading you two argue. I see $7.5 was still available for Fantastic Sid after the box draws for the semi's. I expect him to qualify for the final and be awfully tough to beat!

Isn't that still the case in the English Derby? No geldings or fillies allowed? I've always wondered why fillies are allowed to start in the NZ and Australian Derbies but colt can't start in the Oaks. If they are going to allow fillies to start why give them a weight advantage as well. It doesn't make sense

Oh dear, imagine if he won it !!

www.justracing.com.au And Melbourne isn’t the only place that had problems last Saturday. In Sydney the visiting Kiwi galloper Hasselhoof can be seen in live footage clearly hitting his head on the top of the barrier stalls, but he wasn’t removed and vetted and scratched. He was just left in the barriers and the field was dispatched pretty much straight away when he was back on all fours. It is my considered opinion that irrespective of any horse’s price, the horse should mandatorily be scratched, but in the case of Hasselhoof it was inexcusable, as he was the $3.80 favourite and carried a fortune in bets. What is wrong with all these so called “great racing administrators” and “top stewards” that we have in Australia? They attend conferences both in Australia and globally and cannot come up with the fact that nationwide we need to invoke a racing rule that states, “A horse hitting its head on the barrier stalls is to be deemed a late scratching – no exceptions”.

Not as much as one former Chairman Lauchlan Kenneth Scobie Mackinnon whom the LKS Mackinnon Stakes is named after. He owned a very good 2yo colt called Carradale who won the 2yo Easter Stakes and among the beaten brigade in eleventh place was a horse called Phar Lap who was having his third unplaced start. MacKinnon of course had lofty thoughts for his colt as a 3yo especially in the Derbies. However, Phar Lap, a gelding came out and won the 1929 AJC Derby with Carradale finishing second and then Phar Lap won the VRC Derby with Carradale again finishing second. LKS MacKinnon obviously wasn't too pleased and talk quickly moved about geldings being able to take on colts in Derbies. With LKS a leading advocate but commencing in 1931 geldings were banned from racing in the VRC Derby against the colts and this went on until 1956 when geldings were allowed to compete again.

Your knowledge is impeccable Ted. I was there that day and the best horse retained the race. But Willetts was treated a bit unfair with the foul riding bit. I think it may have been because Sir Maurice Nathan, the Chairman, was a bit peed off at not winning his Clubs premier 3yo race.

Don't forget the Melbourne Cup scratching of Kiwi, Jimmy's book out later this year will cover that travisty. The He's Remarkable decision was fraud at best. Decisions like that need to go to a panel in say the UK where country of residence doesn't come in to it. He's Remarkable would be a Group 1 winner and may have stood for more money. Speaking of Saturday's decision, I don't care where interference happens, if it costs then overturn. However if there is no choice, because they slam the brakes on (which I would outlaw for safety reasons by the way), then no protest. If stewards think that in a split second going 40 kms an hour on 530 kgs of animal when you have to take evasion action, going in not out is logical (yeah right), then I would suggest we put stewards on a horse and see how good they are. Another bad decision Saturday.

What a disgrace the 520 boxe's are. They look like they belong at Tokoroa, or Chertsy, no offence Tok and Chert. But really, not even a lick of paint. All plaudits to Yeboahs connections for a correct and principled decision. Shame other trainers/ owners didn't show support by withdrawing their dogs. I'm due back on track with 3 new charges in about 3 mths, and i'm putting on notice any sub standard tracks, they will NOT FEEL MY DOGS FEET IF UNSAFE, and i will be the sole adjudicator of this.

"YEBOAH (4) was a late scratching at 5.39pm by Stewards at the request of Owner Mr A Potts sighting dissatisfaction with the condition of the track." good or on him as well, after reading the full stipes report its obvious track safety isn't a concern or priority when it comes to the NZGRA... Disgraceful on a big afternoon of racing to dish up something like they did. Embarrassing really.

I know it was nearly 30 years ago, 1987 to be precise but the alleged interference was on the turn and he won by a length from Marwong with NGH easing Poetic Prince down. The relegation was an out and out rort by the Aussies stipes and a total injustice.

Our Poetic Prince, eased down to win Caulfield Guineas by 4 lengths (could have been 10 if Harry rode him out to the line) but lost on protest to Marwong for interference about 1000m from the WP. Then there's He's Remarkable in Perth ! The Stipes in the CS Hayes protest had no other option.
