  2. As long as the people who use the service have actual proof of the accusations they make and not just ring up because they think they know something it will be beneficial. I can see it becoming a way for people just to cause trouble because they have a grievance or are just jealous of someone's success

I would like to make a request, this being that Main Street be retained as a part of RaceCafe. Personally, I appreciate the posts of crustyngrizzly notifying me of the sad passing of music legends. This gentlemen is clearly an avid news follower and I appreciate being the beneficiary of his diligence. Further, the subject of censorship is vexed in the extreme. Personally, I don't believe that the posts often denigrated as "racist" are so, and that, in itself, gives me much food for thought. Nobody has to visit this part of RaceCafe. Please retain this part of RaceCafe and let those who want to visit it, find it. Leaving things as they are, with Main Street more difficult to find than the racing Forums, seems a reasonable solution to this issue, in my opinion. Thank you. Cheers. Ashoka

I have been a critic of Lisa in the past but perhaps it is time we cut her a bit of slack.Lisa was very close to her sister Vicki a New Zealand show jumper representative.Vicki drowned on a Florida beach in November 2002 aged 39. There is a poignant saying we should remember-there by the Grace of God.. .

Congratulations guys on the site upgrade which looks like an improvement on the previous version. Some new features and a general fresh look. If I can make one slight personal criticism, and I know it's something that in discussion with others is also a bug-bear for them - the red margin at the top which is in effect a "pelmet" is all the rage among website designers these days (why are we slaves to fashion ??) but is generally a turnoff for users as it effectively renders 10% of the screen unusable or static. When you scroll down, the upper part of the page slides under it "early" to little effect. I have found this in a number of sites recently and wherever discussed people find it annoying and pointless but as I say it's no biggie, just an observation. Well done on the improvements, as I said.

Just a suggestion to help improve the reading of a topic is that when you access a topic that the focus goes to the last entry in that topic. At present the focus goes to the top of the page and then you have to scroll down to the last entry. You have already seen the intro page to the website when accessing the list of topics I personally don't think that the intro page should show up all the time and you have to scroll down to get to the meaty issue of a topic. It can be done as I have seen it done on other forums. The fixed navbar can be handy for sites that have navigation up the top, so it's easier for people to jump between pages on the site. However, since navigation is down the side here it might not be as effective. Easy enough fix if Admin wants to get rid of it though. Just need to remove the 'navbar-fixed-top' class from the template.

In states of Australia they have police gaming and racing squads. They investigate matters in conjunction with racing authorities. I really don't know why people are moaning about the intention of the rIu being proactive in gathering information on those that breach the rules of fair play. Whether they deliver on that intention is what should be debated in the future.

    Weigh In

I thought the programme this week was the best so far and it was pleasing to hear the views of the panel on a few issues. The one issue that interested me was when Butch made reference to the incident and subsequent interference that resulted from the inwards movement of Allez Eagle. The first and second horse are both trained by T Pike,so he was in no position to ask for an inquiry to be instigated ,but as rightfully pointed out by Butch, surely the Stewards should have instigated one. They found the interference serious enough to charge R Hutchings of this incident and he pleaded guilty to the charge and got a 4 day suspension. The margin between first and second was 0.3L and after seeing the head on film footage,it is very clear the second horse was buffered and became unbalanced at at time when it had momentum up. C George brought a ruling along the lines that it is up to the connections to lodge a protest, but this is a prime example when the stewards should have done this. I believe it would have been a 50/50 call,to see if the JCA would have changed the placings, but we will never know as there was NO inquiry and you must ask the question,WHY NOT.? Remember that word INTEGRITY,WHERE WAS IN THIS INSTANCE. The other surprising aspect of this was when Paul Shalier didn't know if they could,so i will put him into the Kennel for a week for not knowing the Rules Of Racing. I will also put N Grimstone{spelling in the kennel, for this ludicrous decision to have 0800 Dub A Mate, the perception this will give any potential punters/owners or race followers that our industry is corrupt, this will just add fuel to that misconception,

  20. Heard Ms Dowding on Pete Early's show today mumbling on about this. Apparently they have to pre-sell 60% of these apartments before getting this thing underway....a big gamble I would say. She also gave out a website to see apartment details...which does not exist, or her details were wrong. And...what's with that logo on the Alexandra Park website.... Who came up with that thing..??!! They seem to have forgotten the reason they are there.....

  24. Yes - an odd turn of phrase now that it seems we know what actually happened. Maybe it would have been more accurate - but not jumping the gun - to have said the test was incomplete or not completed. I seem to remember one other time her putting straw in the vial as a contaminant or some such action? I haven't bagged her throughout all the goings on over the years but she's getting harder to make a case for ... such a shame she couldn't stay clean - or keep out of the game until she was anyway ... I wonder what the rules say for this sort of action? I think using the drink driving analogy, the penalty for a refused test is basically the same as if it was a positive. I guess the thing here is - positive for what?? (I guess we'll never know) Any way you look at it - prompt and eloquent mea culpa or not - I think it's going to rain down on her this time .... and it's difficult to mount a case for it not to ....

  25. Interesting article. It's odd that they kept saying it was not negative or in some cases non negative ... well if it wasn't negative, then it must have shown traces of something (and that would mean that that something would have a name).. or possibly it was really nothing, but they just didn't want to say it was negative because that would close a door to some possible additional charge. Bit of a circus really - and not what you would term transparency Maybe they are waiting for someone to call the 0800 number.

All it does is highlight that they believe that this is needed in the first place.. anyone not interested in racing yet.. will think why should I bother if they have already lost control of who is corrupt or not to the extent that they need a public task force out there to do their work for them. It is basically saying to all those owners/trainers/jockeys/stablehands/Joe Public etc out there in the racing industry, that you must see this going on all the time.. so much so in fact that we have dedicated a phone line just for you... I can see that the Board think this is showing the public that they have their ears open and are willing to uphold the integrity of racing and keep it clean... but no business is clean.. there is fraud everywhere, shortcuts, under the table dealings.. and where people are involved you will always get this, so I think they should have just put better systems in place to test, check, review, and follow up any intell, behind the scenes, and just get on with it like any business does.

    Weigh In

I was waiting for the siren to go also as the chances of Sancerre were affected. A stewards enquiry should have ensued. The 0800 number is ludicrous just adding further expense for the industry and as you say leading to further negativity of the industry. Surely this reflects poorly on the RIU staff themselves, are they seen as unapproachable or untrustworthy of confidence when approached discreetly about an issue? With complete anonymity being given to callers on this hotline it will lead to the disaffected, disenchanted, malicious and mischevious to ring. How much in wastage of time and money will it cause.

I agree, and your spot on about some of the drug cheats in aus that have been caught over the last few years have been tip offs. I really don't see what all the negativity is about. Anything to help 'clean' racing has got to be a good thing. If your doing nothing wrong then you have nothing to be worried about

    0800 dob in a mate

History shows that some of the biggest racing scandals in recent years have been the result of information given to authorities outside of racing here and Australia or as a result of anonymous tips. Why was that? The 0800 number is just one tool in the toolbox but if it helps get the job done properly then it is justified.

Do you ever actually have anything positive to say on here? If you don't like the show then don't watch it and/or come on here and moan, you seem to have a problem with GAP and or anything to do with rehoming dogs going by your previous comments, I love the fact they promote it on their show and I know a few people that aren't dog people that watch it and like to see what happens to dogs once they are finished racing. Yes there are things that can be worked on, but like anything new it will get better and better the longer it continues.

    Tucked by the TAB

I'm surprised know one has mentioned how the TAB tucked all us punters at Manakau yesterday. Race 8 was originally a full 8 starters and 2 reserves, the 3 dog was scratched at 8.30am Sunday morning making it a LATE scratching, however, the TAB must of used some discretion and withdrew the dog BEFORE the trainer had actually withdrawn the dog therefore making this race payable on only 2 place divy's? Yes there was a mix up of sort's because the dog in question was stood down at Cambridge after it's run Thursday but it was not withdrawn as per the rules and declared a late scratching at 8.30am hence no reserves got a start, that race should of paid 3 place divy's no question about it! It not only affected punters betting on that race alone but also would of had a huge affect on the Place6 option's outcome...

    Tucked by the TAB

The definition of a late scratching according to the TAB betting rules is 9am. ® “Late Scratching” in the case of: (i) New Zealand racing means a Scratching made after 9.00am on the day of the Race Meeting; and (ii) Overseas racing means a Scratching made after the official Scratching time of the Race Meeting as determined by the controlling body in the relevant jurisdiction. https://static.tab.co.nz/content/pdf_form/tab_rules.pdf

Huh? Where did I say the dog is drugged? I stated facts about the amount of swabs he had, and another fact the trainer HAS had a positive, and questioned if this rationale testing that the RIU is conducting is of an integrity that others are happy with?
