Thoughts? RIU
Ashoka and 6 others reacted to brainstorm for a topic
I detect sheer frustration with Aquaman's posting and I think that the majority of honest greyhound lovers would agree with what he has to say.. Remembering as if yesterday,,,, the day Cameron George interview with Steve Davis boosted 'Morale' within the the Greyhound Industry. What he wasn't going to do,,, !!!!!!.... Exciting times indeed.... ..Blood tests.... Random kennel raids ..A new state of the Ark testing Laboratory that would bring the "Low LIfe" amongst us to their knees.. What a load of shit this man turned out to be and to think his middle name was "Integrity" I"m thinking that this was the biggest disappointment to me in all the years I have been associated in honestly trying so hard to keep clean, in a sport, I genuinely love.....7 points -
Well said iteruka, im heartened that we are discussing the very real issue of cheating, integrity etc in our code. You are so right iteruka, you do get the feeling they don't want to rock the boat of certain trainers because they are big and successful, but a level playing field for all participants is paramount. Im led to believe that some trainer's are about to get a long over due wake up call, but as always we'll believe it when we see it.5 points

I remember the one and only time they blood tested cause my dog was one of them. Have been asking for it to happen again but they say they don't have the right gear. If they had it 8 years ago why do they not have it now? Simple, they don't want to catch the cheats. They are under the misguided belief that we can't function without them3 points

Idiotic examples if that is what you are looking at Joblow. It was evident to a blind man that the riderless Connor John, who is incidentally as stable mate of Ryan Mark, cost Puntinato the win. Moochi Me bled after he gave her a lovely ride, that's why she stopped. Another being no blame of rider. I would have got off In Style if I had the choice also Joblow. Going forward, in my opinion, there is more up side to Ryan Mark and I think that he is a better horse left handed also. A lot of times jockey choices are not just made for the upcoming race but for future races. He only just wrong yesterday but there was nothing wrong with the ride. If you are going to bag a rider, then use something worthwhile to back up your opinion. Do your homework properly, the examples you have used lend no weight to your argument giving no credence to what you espouse.2 points -
So very true Ted. Your examples are realistic and sadly this will happen. Just police the industry with the talent they have. Simple. This "crimewatch" foray is a joke, surely. I like it to the R18 days at my local, Riccarton. Pure nonsense. Just set the rules, police the day and "turf them out" - end of. Simple. Does this industry ever get anything right? This is what happens I guess when you isolate stakeholders and make unilateral decisions without knowledge and real life industry experience. The industry is laughable as it continues down the self destruct path.2 points

They are not trying at all. There f#ken idiots. They go through the motions in NZ, only capable of detecting chocolate, caffien and other simple things school kids could detect in a science lab. Can anybody remember the last time a swab was sent offshore to a real lab. Can anybody remember the last time blood was taken. Can anybody tell me when they are starting to freeze swabs for future testing as it is done in Aust. Mind you i suppose all these tools wouldn't be of much use if the cheap nasty useless f#ken lab is twenty yrs behind. F#k the whole system is pathetic when it comes to testing, and it always has been in NZ.2 points

Sorry but the calibre of your use of the English language is rather amateur.2 points -
I never saw any allegations, just stating facts. If you don't want people stating facts on the site now then it's pretty sad, what Reilly has said is entirely true, you look at the swabbing of dogs in Australia and how many they do and the proceduRes used and it's not even comparable to here. You will never catch the cheats if you never swab them, maybe that's what they want?2 points

Herald on Sunday
THE TORCH reacted to ivanthegreat for a topic
Big " Up's" to the racing section for Sunday this and most weeks. Never any expanded form and this week no fields at all .....O'h except a meeting for Wingatui ( I suppose this will be for Wednesday ). Last time I ever buy this paper on a Sunday. I dont think they had any Australian fields in the racing supplement for the weekend with plenty of interest in Cranbourne ,Sydney or Ascot. You are making yourselves redundant........ are you already getting a commission from The Informant. ?1 point -
Tucked by the TAB
howrude reacted to Slim Shady for a topic
I'm surprised know one has mentioned how the TAB tucked all us punters at Manakau yesterday. Race 8 was originally a full 8 starters and 2 reserves, the 3 dog was scratched at 8.30am Sunday morning making it a LATE scratching, however, the TAB must of used some discretion and withdrew the dog BEFORE the trainer had actually withdrawn the dog therefore making this race payable on only 2 place divy's? Yes there was a mix up of sort's because the dog in question was stood down at Cambridge after it's run Thursday but it was not withdrawn as per the rules and declared a late scratching at 8.30am hence no reserves got a start, that race should of paid 3 place divy's no question about it! It not only affected punters betting on that race alone but also would of had a huge affect on the Place6 option's outcome...1 point -

Yes, a fantastic effort - well done Chris - fully deserved and well earned. Also, congratulations to John Tannahill (aka Mr Rumpole) who has played a major part over the last 7 years as Chris' "jockey agent" - John's involvement with Chris has been significant in many ways. Two tops blokes enjoying wonderful success.1 point

Has the "King" Coleman lost his crown
Lloyd Vivian reacted to beerwithduncan for a topic
I still rate Michael as one of our better riders who has stood the test of time but have always felt embarrassed by the "King" title. "Bustling Bill,The Iceman,The Pumper" etc etc all reflect a relevant style of riding. "The King" has never been a reflection of Michael Coleman in any way so has always been an inappropriate title / nickname.1 point -

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION,AND ONLY ONCE EVER BEEN ASTRIDE A THOROUGHBRED,IBELIEVE COLMAN IS STILL ONE OF OUR BETTER JOCKEYS.RIDING IS JUST ANOTHER PART OF LIFE AND SOMETIMES YOU WIN AND SOMETIMES YOU LOSE.I KNOW THAT IT CAN BE COSTLY WHEN YOU LOSE BECAUSE OF SOMEONE ELSE BUT THEN WHY IS LTTO SO POPULAR. Can i just add that the horse i sat on's trainer praised me by saying that i looked like a sack of spuds on a horse.1 point -

Be afraid, be very afraid..........TERROR COMETH!!!!!!
Ashoka reacted to beerwithduncan for a topic
The last time I watched a finish like that was in 1986. It was also in Victoria. It was the Cox Plate where the first two horses home were both kiwi's. Bonecrusher and Our Waverley Star. The two great champions put distance between them and the others before turning for home. All the way up the home straight it looked like the result could go either way just as it did in 1986 and then the horse on the outside Terror To Love got up just prior to the finish to take a narrow win just as Bonecrusher had done in 1986. It was the harness equivalent of that great race. The Cranbourne Cup is a feature race but not in the same league as a NZ Cup or Interdominion Final but if it had have been, people would still be talking about it in 50 years.1 point -
So what we have now is the opportunity for the mischievious or the malicious to falsely lay complaints or accusations knowing that they have complete anonymity and can't be traced therefore no repercussions. Will this open a can of worms or worse lead to corruption itself? Examples: A punter has a big bet on a horse knowing that there is only one runner that could possibly beat it, the hot favourite or a big multi bet ending on a runner. So 5-10 mins out from the start he rings the hot line and says he saw the favourite being injected/ syringed earlier. or Someone rings stating they were at a trainers place earlier that day and they saw some banned substance there etc etc. ie wasting everyone's time and being totally annoying. There are all sorts of examples, but you get my drift.1 point

Sir Hiko
TOM(the other Molloy) reacted to rdytdy for a topic
Well he comes from Otaki where close by Fasthorse lives. Fasthorse has probably been filling Matthew Hodgkinson's head with wonderous stories how easy it is to win this great stake money that is being put up. Fasthorse probably told him: "Disregard the fact that the two horses you train Matthew are maidens. I mean, why send your horses around in $7k maiden fields. They have both had one start each for you now, the 6yo mare Thora Bob whom you lined up in a R65 1200m race on your home track finishing 22 lengths last behind the winner and the 5yo gelding Sir Hiko lining up the same day finishing 25 lengths last behind the winner over 1200m. Nice quiet blow outs for them I would think." "You think Thora Bob can stay and that Sir Hiko can sprint. Think big Matthew, there is a premier meeting at Trentham this week. Line the mare up in the $30k R85 3200m race and pop the gelding in the $50k Stakes race over 1200m. You might not have to work again and I can get on the net and tell everyone that my mate has two maidens competing for $80k on Saturday. Isn't life wonderful...now where did I put my pills again?"1 point -
They certainly look as promising as thy do in the Northern Hemisphere. Tavistock and Showcasing look the standout new sires but what about Fast and Famous? His stock are firing now that he's been sold to Australia. Stands at a stud in Albury for $4400. Could be a big loss.1 point
