  1. We would like to confirm that Dream Collector is almost certainly heading to retirement after his injury yesterday. The x-rays still have to be reviewed by another vet. We are still in the process of deciding on his retirement plans but it is highly likely to be in in New Zealand. The team here at Balcairn are gutted as he is a character at our kennels. Thanks to all those who have "advice" for us regarding whether or not he should have raced yesterday, just like any trainer that has had a greyhound receive a career ending injury we have reviewed our decision but unfortunately we can not change the past. I can confirm he was fit enough and did not have any injuries. going into the race. Thanks to all those who have supported us with their kind words. Jean

  4. The most memorable race I ever watched. Was a great field and that breath taking win reminded everyone just how good he was on his day.

  5. That's very sad news. I recall him dominating jumping races. It was often just a case of seeing who Michael Gillies was riding and look no further. Fond memories of all the horses mentioned above. I remember Charger winning the Sydenham hurdles when race caller Reon Murtha near fell out of his chair. Chumson was near unbeatable for a time as was Floodlight. I hope they name a feature jumping race after him. Respects to Michael and his loved ones.

  7. Small price for all the fun I get from your hard work. Besides I'm planning to win both of them anyways. Good start with the Bridgeman 2yo who just helped me pay for these prizes ($2.80 on fixed odds yesterday).

A good run, looked like he was wanting to get off the fence most of the way but got no real room, a big run under the circumstances, just a lack of experience probably cost him 3rd, he has a big future alright. They made the right decision in sending him over there, the track and the racing over the ditch is in a diffrent league to the joke they call NZ racing, looks an amazing night.

He is a nice horse Torch, and won 2 races really well at the National Meeting with the Magic Man on top. His win today was no surprise and had there been more give in the ground last week I think he would have finished closer. A nice horse. Just cannot believe the price today but I guess they lengthen out when NZs premier Jock isn't on top.

  25. Surveillance The inhabitants of Oceania, particularly the Outer Party members, have no real privacy. Many of them live in apartments equipped with two-way telescreens, so that they may be watched or listened to at any time. Similar telescreens are found at workstations and in public places, along with hidden microphones. Written correspondence is routinely opened and read by the government before it is delivered. The Thought Police employ undercover agents, who pose as normal citizens and report any person with subversive tendencies. Children are encouraged to report suspicious persons to the government, and some even denounce their parents. Surveillance controls the citizenry and the smallest sign of rebellion, even something so small as a facial expression, can result in immediate arrest and imprisonment. Thus, citizens (and particularly party members) are compelled to obedience

  26. we are treated like a bunch of juvenile delinquents, one or two people miss behave and they bring out the national guard thinking we all behave in this manner. I see the 7's is struggling to sell tickets due to the change in liquor laws with in the event. Remember the days over Xmas at Auckland races where the infield was packed they bring in the bull shite saying one or two were spoiling it for others and now you have an infield where the numbers have been reduced by I would say 3/4s. I use to attend the races an I never saw anyone been that much of a problem, everyone was having a good time, maybe a little to much to drink but they were still behaving.

  27. Hey Peter, I'd like to put up a couple of prizes: 1. To the winner of this competition - $75 bet on any gallops race that they like in the week following completion of the comp. Bet can be any type the winner likes (win, place, quinella, trifecta, treble, all-up, pick 6....) but just one bet - I don't want to be putting on heaps of small bets. Any collect from the bet will be split 50% to the person who places the bet and 50% to the Grant Laursen Givealittle page (promoted earlier on the other thread). 2. To the first entrant who picks 5 placegetters (dividend paying) in two consecutive weeks - same deal - $75 bet with proceeds split between them and Grant Laursen. If more than one entrant does this in the same two weeks (I'd be very surprised) the $75 bet goes to the entrant with the higher combined collect in those two weeks. If nobody achieves this feat, I'll give the runner up in the overall comp a $50 bet - same deal.

  29. Yep - what a race that was! Marscay 17hh - McGinty 14hh; McGinty cracked a cannon at the 300m and the official margin from memory was 17 lengths to the 3rd horse.... One of the biggest 'what if's' ever.....

  31. I don't condone her drug taking in the past or damaging attempts to avoid consequence for her actions but surely there are worse people in our world than Lisa Cropp? I mean some of the treatment dished out to her is worse than what is dished out to child sex offenders . If she has learned from her mistakes and wants to make a fresh start then he who is without sin cast the first stone. She's clearly an excellent rider who has competed successfully long term against the males all over the world and that takes some doing. I see a rider like Michelle Payne. A gifted rider but seldom wins more than one race at a meeting and she's not known for her vigour especially in tight finishes. Lisa Cropp will have rides in most races, win multiple races at a meeting and shows every bit as much vigour as the top male riders. I wish her well in her comeback.

  34. Dress to impress at mass Time Warp Dance to mark city's 150-year anniversary In the run up to a mass performance of the iconic Time Warp dance, reporter Mike Mather meets Rocky Horror Show creator Richard O'Brien and gets a free lesson. Peter DruryRichard O'Brien, creator of the Rocky Horror Picture show, demonstrates how the Time Warp is done. Hamilton City CouncilANOTHER PLANET: Sandra Jensen and Adiran Holroyd model the look that will be on show at Saturday night's Time Warp dance in central Hamilton.Relevant offersFor some it might be, as the lyrics suggest, "in another dimension, with voyeuristic intention", but dressing for this weekend's mass Time Warp performance is a serious business for many people wanting to look the part. The signature dance number from the popular musical The Rocky Horror Show and its cinematic adaptation The Rocky Horror Picture Show will take place in Hamilton's Victoria St at 10pm on Saturday night, led by none other than Rocky Horror creator and former Hamiltonian Richard O'Brien. The Time Warp dance - in which anyone can participate - will be a highlight of an evening-long celebration to mark the city's 150-year anniversary. Read More: Let's do The Time Warp again But for those keen to emulate the look of Janet, Rocky or Dr Frank N Furter there are plenty of options - not least the city's five fancy dress hire businesses: Abracadabra Costume Hire in the Dinsdale shopping centre, That's a Wrap on Grey St, Absolutely Awesome Costume Hire in Norton Rd, Costumes R Us on Sunshine Ave, and Tops N Tales in Brookfield St. Riff Raff Public Arts Trust founder Mark Servian said as well as the fancy dress shops, the costume department at the Hamilton Operatic Society could also be a good source for outfits. It was a suggestion heartily endorsed by society business manager Jason Wade. "We have got oodles of stuff there. The society staged Rocky Horror in 2005, and most of the costumes are still sitting in the department, waiting for people to hire them." The society's costume hire department is open on Thursday and Friday afternoons and from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, he said. "There are degrees you can go to," Servian said. "If you want to go the full tilt and dress up like one of the main characters or go for a tranny costume that's great, but you can get away with a colourful shirt and a party hat from the $2 shop if you have to. "Think of it as dressing for a wedding on another planet. There's a formal element involved." mike.mather@fairfaxmedia.co.nz

  38. Tony TG Williams August 25 · I'm overwhelmed at the price that my saddle bought at Thomas Russell's Fundraiser evening last night of $3,500 & also my whip at $500 as I know that I'm not a Champion Jockey as on Race Cafe once many years ago a person on there said that I was only just a Journey Man! how ever what ever that I was related to whilst I was riding I'm still very proud of what I achieved during that time! I would like to Sincerely thank Tony Pike for buying my saddle & also Chris Wood for being the under bidder & my friend Vianney Jones for buying my whip. I'm so very proud of the out come of these two items of $4,000 for Thomas & although I don't know him personally I'm positive that he will be too & one can only imagine if these two items did belong to a Champion Jockey just how much money that they may have gone for at the auction then? Once again Many Thanks to anybody that bid I my two sentimental items of mine for Thomas last night as I sincerely appreciate it!

this is very sad news..and quite sudden too., i thought he was in a good fettle recently..although facebook conversations don't reflect a lot of health's reality., none th'less..this is shocking news for how sudden it feels. Tony was a great man...tonnes of guts, defiance and determinations, and was once a great contibutor here at RaceCafe' in 'the old days'. a Great rider from a period when NZ racing was full of stars., horses, men'n'women alike. ..he recently donated his favourite Saddle to Thomas Russell's fund for Auction., it made a nice price and was steeped in a marvelous history of his great wins., as this thread unfolds..i expect those historicals to be posted. R.I.P. Tony...we'll meet someday and you may fully rest now fine one

  40. Trakdap, Riccarton on Cup Day is my favourite course. It is too damned far from the Waikato, but still my favourite. And what makes it my favourite are the many polite people in the carparks there for a great time. I must stress the word polite. They are wonderful. I just get the impression that there are only three things they wish for; 1. A winner or two. 2. Quite a few drinks. 3. A stray root.
