  1. Gotta drag the jacket and tie out on a Sunday ...been summoned to Corporate Towers, Blues HQ, Downtown Auckland to a hastily-called alleged crisis meeting to explain what has been termed in the email as a "flagrant and appalling captaincy mismanagement and waste of the precious joker two strides out of the starting gates in the 2014 PJ Spring Super Comp." Oh dear, don't know how I allowed "LastTime I'll ListenTo Him of 40" talk me in to this mess ...I'd had an inkling this would be a bad idea ...now I'm facing the earliest ever captaincy impeachment in PJ Super Comp history, and possible banishment to one of the far-flung pioneer outposts of the empire, destined maybe to tragedy with the Kauri Kats or worse still, to Hamilton to languish with the Chiefs ! Oh the pain. So these are the options I'll be presenting today to explain the administrative oversight :- - Over-exuberant team-mates pushed me (never take the rap when there are others you can throw under the bus) - When I said we'd be playing the Joker, PJ inadvertently took me to be meaning this round ! (when all else fails, blame the ref) - When they said he was the Top Sprinter in the World, we took that to mean he was the Top Sprinter in Australia, too. (sour grapes ) Just hoping and praying that we mighty Blues have been assigned the Hurricanes as a matchup this coming Saturday, we need a confidence-boosting softer target than those feisty Mainlanders so that we can get the good ship Auckland back on keel and back in this race ! You ain't heard the last of the MIGHTY BLUES !

  3. You will have to excuse my ignorance on starting gates, but why is manual starting gates as against non manual starting gates a disgrace? Sure, NZ racing is on the slide but what the hell has that do with manual starting gates. Race 2 was a ragged start but I have seen many starts like that with non manual gates, since then the starts have been as good as you would see on any raceday. I'm sure some just whinge for the sake of whinging.

    Latest Scandal

Bit like this garbage anti smacking law brought in by that foul mouthed spitting Bradford. We now have a society that views things entirely different. I'v read the JCA decision, and have some sympathy for Marcie. Off course i don't condone beating the crap out of any animal, just as i don't with children. Knowing Marcie, i would say she absolutely loves her dogs, and was clearly frustrated on this occassion. A warning would off sufficed. Agree entirely with Mcmissile.

Anyone who knows Marcie knows how much she loves her dogs, was just one of those things that I'm sure she regrets but no need to make a huge deal about it, there are plenty worse things to worry about.

    Wanganui Not Whanganui

Whanganui is Maori place name and as far as I'm aware Maori were here well before NZ Post, Wises , weather sites and Dad was, so the tradition, history and correct pronunciation goes back a lot further than your reasons to pronounce it incorrectly. Just because it's been said wrong for so long does not make it now the right pronunciation. What arrogance. Pull your heads out of your narrow minded behinds.

  19. It needs to be established what does xyz role consist of? What does as an example the Talent person do all day? All the jobs at NZRB must be scrutinized & those there should have to be made accountable in 15 minute blocks & provide a full & complete record of what they do, just like other firms do to ensure best value for money & good time management. All jobs should be scrutinized & questions must be asked if they realistically should even exist & if applicable terminations should happen asap.

  20. Who was the bunny that made the stuff up in this contract with Andrew Brown? Were they ever made accountable in any shape or form? It's a known fact from information online about Ceo's in Europe that the amount of Euro's he was paid was way in excess of other Ceo's in Europe. It is understood €500,000 is in the top band for Ceo's of a worldwide company based in Europe these days. Naturally a " Kiwi" based & operated firm would pay considerably less. Some Ceo's have put a cap on there own & those of senior staff in the finance / insurance sector to 20%. Why did Andrew Brown not question at the time if the sum on offer was incorrect? An honest & reputable Ceo would have. Shame on him & grossly negligent of those that allowed it to happen in the first place.

  22. I read an article about this a couple of months ago. The article was a bit longer an makes the point that although all breeding is really an experiment. PW is currently in a position, due to being (Im assuming) in a good financial position and also breeding 30+ litters a year, where he can take greater risks with his experiments. If out of the 6 or so litters he breeds only a couple of pups make the track with some success it's no major loss to him compared to the normal breeder who breeds 1-2 litters a year an relies on them to be his future income over the next couple of years. In saying that, 1 dog that has reasonable success in Victoria would mean the litter breaks even at least...

    Freeview Gone

Ain't been much. "spark" from Spark today Sounds like malware has been spread through there systems. Off this topic a little, but still related, the fact that those reliant on watching the races via there Spark ( aka Telecom) provided " Watch & Bet" today would have had no access to watching & betting on the internet today if they don't have Sky TV. No doubt it will have made an impact on betting turnover & viewing numbers. Just another valid reason to bring back Trackside racing on Free to Air Freeview tv in NZ. Let's hope other countries that broadcast racing on mainstream free to air Tv learn from NZ racings situation & never allow it to be taken from the traditional public broadcasting tv channels. It's not to late to like the Keep Trackside on Freeview Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Keep-Trackside-on-Freeview/611059238959459

    Wanganui Not Whanganui

I don't think you are quite correct Tipsmit. Without starting another Maori/European war I think you will find that the local Maoris lived at Putiki. There was a coastal tribe near the river mouth who about 1820 attacked the Kapiti tribe of Te Rauparaha.Te R retaliated and wiped out the Putiki people. Some of my family are direct descendants of Te R. In 1930 Europeans settled on the northern side of the river and called the town Petre which they later renamed Wanganui about1854 The river was called Whanganui by the Maori and when referred to by them sounded with a wh or guttral w.Maori had no written or English spelling language. A few years ago the spelling was raised by what I call shit stirrers and now either spelling is correct or can be used. I have in the past searched many Lands and Survey files on Moari history and NZ settlement.

  39. Rambling_Kidd has aptly named himself but I detect no malice of any kind inherent in his posts, given that when he oversteps, he apologises and corrects himself. I, too, can occasionally be guilty of emotion over rationale as, I believe, we all can be. I, personally, find it easier to forgive Rambling Kidd because of the connection to the late Reg Weatherley (thank you, Camici), as Western Ridge was one of the first horses I ever started following. All the best. Ashoka PS RK is enthusiastic and that's a good thing, right?

    Best Wishes To Louise Cole

Great to read Lou's condition is improving. The full article is in here. Cole out of ICU as condition improves Fri, 18 Jul 2014 Dennis Ryan http://www.theinformant.co.nz/racing/SK25765/Cole-out-of-ICU-as-condition-improves The condition of injured horsewoman Louise Cole has improved to the point that she has been transferred from intensive care to the high dependency unit at Waikato Hospital. Cole, the wife of Te Kauwhata trainer Tony Cole, was airlifted to hospital last Saturday morning after suffering serious chest injuries when falling from a horse on the couple’s property. She was knocked unconscious but her most serious injuries were several broken ribs and collapsed lungs, one of which was punctured.
