At the end of the day there seems to be no shortage of people to interview on Trackside. I enjoyed Roger James and Stephen McKee yesterday down at Te Rapa. Both excellent trainers and ambassadors for New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing.

This attitude of it being alright not to talk to the media will continue to hurt racing as a viable sport/business. All successful sports recognise the importance of promotion because they are competing for the discretionary dollar. For coaches in rugby league talking to the media is a requirement as it is for players in tennis, motor sport, cricket, rugby, in fact in all professional sport except racing. Ricky Stuart, who receives regular fines for venting his frustration does not have the option of throwing his toys out of the cot and saying "Well stuff the NRL, I won't talk to you anymore". Why industry participants feel sympathy for trainers who deliberately harm their industry is beyond my comprehension. tony

Have others noticed how the TAB's focus has shifted to mainly promoting Sports betting at the expense of NZ Racing? We personally feel this is to the detriment of the NZ Racing industry and it is not in the spirit & intent of why the TAB was set up for. Who has permitted this to happen? And for what purpose? We don't have anything against Sports betting but feel that the TAB have lost the plot & focus on it's real purpose & intent.

You can talk about bad refs decisions till the cows come home torchey,nothing changes....it only takes one bad call to change a result in most clashes,look at the league tonight,bird one on one strip on attack in opposition 20 with 3 min to go in half,very possible 14/12 lead penalty Penrith ,12/8 halftime,playing catch up footy force a pass intercept game over....what can be done? Even the video ref gets it wrong watching 3views in slo mo at times....was an error ridden match and the poms almost caused the boil over

im just pointing out that there is a long list of those horses that yes they do a good job but struggle to make the cut commercially here are they going to make it where it matters for us? I have my doubts. I could be wrong but I wouldn't be getting carried away at this early point in the season.

Last night Victor Espinoza;rider of California Chrome,was a guest on the David Letterman Show..With Letterman acting as a dumb ass .and Espinoza just happy to be there it was full of mirth. I suppose a kiwi version would have Opie Bosson being interviewed by Mike Hosking who is a horse's ass.

Just an update for those interested, Cole has been on a working holiday in Queensland for the last couple of days beginning with a very good trial, followed by a couple of days off and culminating in racing in a heat of the Group 1 Gold Cup tonight at Albion Park. He's drawn the 6 box but has a spare box in 5 which helps. It is a no tv race but Gaylene has informed me a replay will be shown approx half hour later. Cheers James

Is it my one eyed bias, or did a frustrated Steve Walsh just decide that the Hurricanes were not going to win HIS game last Saturday night v The Warratahs.
