  1. I see it's flaw ! The knob on the bottom right only has 9 settings (for 9 races) ! hence rendered useless by race 10 - probably designed in Wellington and assembled in a dodgy sparky's back shed in Hokitika methinks....

    Job Application

Good luck with the application Cubes For the interview, which will be before a panel of 7 General Managers, I suggest you only use banking terminology and jargon and deliver no knowledge on racing whatsoever. In fact, your position would possibly be strengthened by stating you have no interest in racing. You will be a "shoe in" and will be a General Manager before you leave the building. Keep us posted Cubes PS Make sure you have an up to date and current passport as extensive overseas travel is likely to be involved.

    Know Class

Just an update for those interested, Cole has been on a working holiday in Queensland for the last couple of days beginning with a very good trial, followed by a couple of days off and culminating in racing in a heat of the Group 1 Gold Cup tonight at Albion Park. He's drawn the 6 box but has a spare box in 5 which helps. It is a no tv race but Gaylene has informed me a replay will be shown approx half hour later. Cheers James

    Concerns....jockeys

I think one of the biggest concerns for the Thoroughbred Racing Industry in the near to mid term future is going to be number of jockeys around. It is hard to imagine in 5 years time a high percentage of the current senior riders still being around (weight, age, motivation) and there are very few apprentices successfully riding out their apprenticeships and continuing into the senior ranks. Without these people we will not have an industry.................. what steps should we be taking in NZ? * setting up apprentice training courses in foreign countries? * have 1 race meeting in the country on any given day so the same jockeys can fly from racetrack to racetrack.......................... I think something needs to be done now, BE Proactive rather than reactive....before it is too late (like the trades problems in the 80's and again now). I have been involved in this part of the industry in the past and it was a BIG concern then.....and getting worse by the looks of things..............

  12. Lets get one thing straight This is not a "performance audit" As such the Racing Board is breaking the law. This is whitewashed, spin saturated PR rubbish. The functions and functionality of the Racing Board have been published elsewhere. Just because the writers of the report had no knowledge why should everyone else basically read their self educational notes. It makes out that any statement from CEO Chris Bayliss is fact. Almost nowhere is their any serious analysis and if there is criticism it is couched in language such as "Triple trio has not yet returned the expected results" Like its just an obvious fact Triple Trio will very soon deliver. It makes the point the TAB is hampered by an old computer system. Didn't see any mention of the "new state of the art system" brought in and chucked out losing the industry more than $20 million. (don't believe the $14 million) I am disgusted that supposedly intelligent people can write this crap. I just haven't the time but if I had each paragraph can be pulled apart and ridiculed. For a starter what justification is there for calling the TAB a $1.9 billion business. Just imagine if at a casino every time someone spun the poker handle the turnover was added or on every blackjack round the turnover was similarly added. The TAB is a gambilng den no worse or better than the seedy mob run dives in USA history. The reliance on its profits by racing for its survival is unfortunate.

    Job Application

Turny, With that type of advice you should be charging $1000/hr. Offering it free you may do someone out of a job. As an aside its about time the average racing person realised that the huge salaries are a major impediment to racing. Its nothing to do with envy or jealousy. Its straight business logic. The status quo is unsustainable. More so its a major put off to participants and customers. The question asked is "why should we support this nonsense???????????????"

..and so the Stakes recovery pyramid should've had an extra $4 million compounding by that figure, each of the last 5 Years ..or $2million, with the other $10million used to fix up track surfaces! When will the industry heed my mantra!

  17. This is a well deserved award not only for her work with harness racing. Helen and her hsband Mick have done a lot of unheralded work to help and support people in the local community. Either one would have been a worthy recipeint.

    Jack's a Jewel

Yes a dominate win by a nose and I'm glad to see it. Now he'll step up to C4 and actually have a bit of a work out to be within a quarter length of the winner. I figure they should swap his blinkers for mirrors, then he would be very content racing his own image.

    New Stallions for 2014

Berri, the previous owner of this site is correct, you are a fruit. If you are a troll as it's proving, then do your worst, find out through your research, I'm not about to get into a slanging match…….. Trust and honesty is waning, if you can't take what someones says on here, then you are obviously judging like by like. You have missed the whole point, I haven't called you a bull shitter, where did I say that. I say that my experience of Tights stock was not good, and many of my peers said same……they just didn't like them! plus they didn't handle the grind and atmosphere of MEL and city race and stable routines……. I should have just shut up and let you believe what you believe…….many Oz trainers would be at your throat with the insinuation they can't train as your European trainers can…….with the exception perhaps of the mighty Dermott Weld and the French generals such as Mrs C Head, and Alan de Royer Dupre I would give a tinker cuss for the rest…….they don't have to train on tracks like we have to, they have magnificent facilities at Newmarket, at Chantilly etc……..but there horses grow lengths here in Oz, why do you reckon that is?……... I've been polite to Forrest as I was to you…….you don't deserve it……..

  22. Lloydy ... I've checked with Captain 'LastRaceHorrorsAreOverof40' as to my 'modus operandi' for this Saturday and he says I'm poised ready to strike ! (much to my long-suffering team-mates relief ) so watch out my friend Lloydy ... the brakes are coming off and I'm thinking I'll be good for 560 into the team bank . Watch that space ! Only setback is that having lent the Jafa-o-Meter last Saturday to the up-to-that-date winless Captain 'LastWinIHadWas2007of40', he was so impressed at going from 0-3 to 1-3 he 's been very tardy at handing the Jafa-o-Meter back to me, muttering something about "all team assets are vested in the Captaincy' . But no matter, come Saturday I'm confident my native cunning will see me home with those 560 dollars into the team bank. Hope you can stay with the hot pace, Lloydy . GO US MIGHTY JAFAS !

  24. Just noticed that Race 7 at Te Rapa makes the cut this week. A filly I have a small share in (Matagouri) is going round in that race. In the interests of fairness and full disclosure I should let the Kats know that the run on the bottomless track at Trentham has really set her back and her recent trackwork has been awful - wouldn't touch her with a barge-pole.

    Warriors

Scurrah out and Doyle in for 2015. Excellent news. With a champion like Doyle leading the way it bodes well for the Warriors future. Scurrah was a dud and oversaw some dodgy decisions (letting Cleary go and signing the Bluey his worst). His lasting legacy will be introducing 200 different Warriors jerseys for mug punters to purchase.

  27. fitzy... The outcomes within the thoroughbred industry repeatly illustrate that all opinions within the industry should be treated as subjective. Nobody, and I mean nobody, can have first-hand experience of all the variables that go to make up the industry. For a start, Federico Tessio is dead. Henri Jooste simply expresses his opinion. He tells it as he sees it. We are all then able to tackle his opinion in any manner that we see fit to do so in. That is how it should be. If this is a problem, then the problem is yours, not Henri's. I appreciate his forthright manner...I don't have to read between any lines nor do I have to wonder about his allegiances as he is open about any connections. I have made the decision to trust this person and I can't say this about most of the people I have encountered in the equine industries. I realise that you have the right to express your opinion. It is just that I find your comments on Mr Jooste too rough to let stand unchallenged. Thank you. All the best. Ashoka PS Disclosure: I have spoken to Henri Jooste on the telephone but I have never met the man nor do I have any knowledge of his background.

    Karapiro Pet Lodge

Look at the end of the day there has been a cock up , call it what you like .. Sonja and her team at the time were great ( this included fatimina ) I would pick up and take gap dogs at no cost between the south island and north with no problem because of these people they are special people , I think grnz have done the right thing with karapiro these people have huge passion and love for our dogs and it was real sad when they gave up , GAP have done a fantastic job , but now GRNZ need to take over as we need total control ,no ones to blame ,we need to move forward....I for one think Ray and Kay are a major part in our hounds future.....

  30. Its really highlighted, that is the inept, incompetent, rubbish camera work we are subjected to in NZ racing. The producers, and camera operators are more interested in making hollywood epics with close ups then long shots throughout the race, impossible at times to follow your horse. They have absolutely no idea about racing, and whats required. The Grand National Steeple Chase was butchered with close ups of the horses bellys at every jump. I now only bet on Australian Racing where the camera work is first class, along with the horses, jockeys, tracks, judical systems, and most importantly the takeout rate on the dollar is good, unlike NZ's, where its so high to allay the costs of running the 2nd rate trackside.
