  1. I've had Sky Tv for years so was not so worried about the loss of free to air Tv. Since it has become pay to view I have found that the decision to make it pay to view was seriously stupid. Waning interest in racing at my golf club; no races on Tv now. Waning interest in racing at my chartered club; no races on Tv now. No Trackside at the hotel I stayed at last night. No Trackside at the bar I was in yesterday afternoon. No Trackside at the motel I stayed at last Friday night. Like the administrators at the NZ Racing Board I had no idea what immense impact this silly change would make. Go back to the status quo and admit that it was an embarrassing stuff up.

  3. I have decided against going to Scone today as Sarah (firefly) is too crook to go and needs someone to make her endless coffees. So I will be doing updates for all matches. Next week when I will be at Surfers Paradise for the massive mixed bloodstock sale I will definitely be unable to provide ongoing updates.

  4. Glad you like it Biff. He was a real 'Gent' all right! Kind as they come. You'd sure be happy if that shoe turned up! I also took my kids and went back to TJ's old place at Takanini one day, and got some lovely shots of Sunline too just after she retired. Figure I've got the best of both codes covered there!

  5. exactly right Nerula . The NZTAB have managed to halve their regular customers in the last 10 years , in addition the interest in the industry is diminishing quickly with the general public. Thus the industry, currently at least , needs to attract every single person it can . People evolve with their interest hopefully into betting in increasing amounts to ownership maybe breeding. The last thing this industry needs is idiotic barriers put in the way of new participants entering the industry by cost accountants/bankers who have no understanding of the industry. Goodness knows what damage has been done by turning off the grandpas and grandmas off their 1 each way bets which they used to watch with the grandkids

  6. Rosina Finds this election....undignified, undemocratic, unobserved by the UN, underhand, unofficial and unexpected. Accepts the position with the utmost humility, which in itself is unbearable to those near and dear. The cofirmation of this position has come at a great expense....having to truck a Kauri stump from a swamp in the far North to Feilding with a short message..."Sharpen Up" Betty and I like to post early so other team members know the explosive areas of each minefield....a mixture of favourites and some selections from the mounting yard that look more than a little ruff, but keep the wolf from the door. Seeks advice from Pam, Sharne and dear old Tom [Graeme] on how to conduct her duties throughout this comp. GOOD LUCK TEAM

    World class trotting

So much of it on at the moment, with the ranks of elite trotters being arguably as strong as its ever been - and yet what coverage are we getting from our race broadcaster. The Arthur Cutler Memorial at Meadowlands, where we often get coverage, could herald a world record tomorrow - what coverage will there be - none. Next weekend is the Elitloppet, while last weekend was the Copenhagen Cup - a super race over 2000m which has been won by some of the greatest trotters in the history of the game. They are being shown in Aussie, where trotters are very poor cousins to pacers. Here where they make up to 30% of the races and getting bigger,we get absolutely no coverage of the great races. You can get them online I know, but it would be great if we could also get decent coverage here.

  10. They bet FF$21 Blitzing Mayhem to win the final last week before the heats - could not see him being that price if he made the final so took some of it then Turns out I could have waited and nearly got the same - he has great box speed and a mad railer drawn in the 5 so thought he was a $7 or $8 chance at best He's a good boy !!!

  12. Yes we see his ugly dial and this foul mouth Racist on TV again, I speak of Hone Harawira. Yesterday he was on One mouthing off (again) about the Budget ! " There is not one single thing in the Budget for Maori " , was he hoping that Maori only would receive anything more than any other NEW ZEALANDER....how racist would that be. Maybe he was somehow thinking that there could be 2 Budgets,,,one for Maori and one for New Zealanders. How this "Joker" manages to have the support of intelligent constituents, I have no idea.

  15. Great to get some mainstream exposure, though would have been nice to talk a little more about ability than money. Most people wouldn't know what the Golden Slipper is, or that many have said that McDonald is arguably the best rider out of here since Brent Thompson in the 70s.

  16. a very gifted and pleasant young man - what a future this young man has - intelligent, articulate and highly presentable - the very successful "nice kid next door" and a world class jockey wonderful to see BUT what the hell is NZ Racing doing to promote these young guys and girls to the young brigade to generate interest? ZIPPO We have Dexter, Sam Ottley and a host of young male and female jockeys - but they don't exist - amazing

  18. Here's one for you Biff. Taken years ago out at Puketutu Stud, when Cardigan Bay was about 30 years old. A friend I knew at the time worked out there and he took this shot of me giving the old boy a pat. So glad I went out and got it before he died. I was too young to see him racing in NZ and we moved to Aussie in 1968. First horse from the Southern Hemisphere to win a $1m. Legend.

    Super Comp Captains Thread

Evening fellow Cantabs, Apologies for missing training this week. Congratulations Mardy on your inspired appointment. I detect ripples of apprehension or even fear from opposing teams as they contemplate matching up against the Red 'n Blacks, especially a team that, as has become customary, had a slight hiccup in the opening round. Regards tony

  23. Say if folk bet the same amount on a day and the number of bets are halved then RB saves $0.oo? a bet. What a great way to grow a business. Cost accountants bah! Heres an analogy. Say you want to buy a watermelon but the people who grow and sell them decide they can save a bit of the handling cost by growing one twice as big as the norm. But you the customer don't want a big one you want the regular size. So you dont buy it. You buy a pineapple (lotto) a coconut (betfair) or sumsuch and you know these people with the watermelons are fools!

  24. You can bet on Lisa's farewell being a party BARRY LICHTER Last updated 05:00 14/05/2014 http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/racing/10039995/You-can-bet-on-Lisas-farewell-being-a-party Lisa Chittick loved only one thing more than dressing up and going to the races - the party afterwards. And while her family and friends at Waikato Stud were mourning her passing yesterday, they were already making plans for a party to beat them all in her honour. Chittick lost her 17-month battle with leukemia in a Los Angeles hospital yesterday, surrounded by her husband Mark, three children Charlotte, George and Harry, and a few close friends. In her typical never-give-up style, Chittick, daughter of retired champion trainer Dave O'Sullivan and his wife Marie, flew to the States six weeks ago after being accepted on to a trial programme for a new cancer drug. Father-in-law Garry Chittick said while Lisa was very sick and hardly in any condition to travel, she insisted on making the trip. "In an ideal world she would have been at home but when this opportunity came up she jumped at it. Even though we missed out on being with her, Mark and the kids were there and that was a big thing for them." Garry Chittick said since Lisa was diagnosed with leukemia the day after the 2013 Auckland Cup, she had bravely tried to maintain her extraordinary joie de vivre, and enjoyed two periods of remission. "Lisa didn't have a lazy bone in her body," Chittick said. "She played a big part in Waikato Stud and its marketing, along with Ange (Bridson). She loved the game and was just outstanding with our clients. "She had a good bit of cheek about her, but it worked for her. "She loved nothing better than getting dressed up and going to the races and had a huge amount of fun out of the horses, winning big races with horses like Legs, Glamour Puss and Daffodil. "She named every horse on the place - spent a lot of time doing it - and if I tried to interfere she told me where to go." It was a passion of Lisa's even in the days when she was part of the successful O'Sullivan racing stable when Dave and Paul O'Sullivan and champion jockey Lance O'Sullivan were household names. She once fell in love with a cute filly with four white feet which her brother Paul bought at Karaka and put together a syndicate to race her, including her mother Marie and sister Debra. By the sire with a South African name Volksraad, she named her Zola, after South African-born Olympic runner Zola Budd, and revelled in her big wins which included the 1988 Ellerslie Sires' Produce Stakes. Lisa was involved in all aspects of the running of Waikato Stud, which she and Mark developed into one of the most successful operations in the country since taking over its management in 2012. In January, the stud was leading vendor at the Karaka yearling sales, its 46 yearlings fetching $7.6million to finish clear of 31-time leading vendor Cambridge Stud. "Mark and Lisa were a great match." Garry Chittick said. "They lived on the property and it has been a real family operation, even the kids were involved." Chittick said his son and family were due home at the end of the week and he expected Lisa's body home the following week. He expected her farewell to be a "big go." "I think it will be a bring a plate and bottle party. Lisa loved a party and celebrating the wins. "And if she was lucky enough to win a good race, she always included the staff in the celebrations. "Lisa had a very open house and a huge number of people through it. And she was a wonderful cook. "She will be very sorely missed." - Fairfax Media

    Thanks to all.

Am loving the 3rd person talk Cubes. It kinda sounds like my alter ego 'Crusader Man' who talks in the 3rd person, but only when at a mates place downing a few coldies and wearing the appropriate gear, including face paint.I am only glad that my alter ego comes out every once in a while lol.

    G Lee-

Never saw the races, but always consider it a bit of a cop out to say do it yourself. If that applies, my mate who does trains harness horses has no right to be critical of rugby players when we watch rugby - as he never played at that level; If you put yourself in a position to do something and get paid for it, you have to accept negative comment at times.
