  1. Not sure he could answer that but I will say we agree to disagree on how race may have panned out had the dogs jumped from the advertised boxes...... You wouldn't want Michael adjudicating on an enquiry for you So what will happen now? My guess (and I was wrong once.......) Club Official will be subject of enquiry by Stipes (who had the power to postpone/stop race and or declare no race) Human error will result in fine to Club Official ($100?????) Sun will come up in the morning Stipe who could have/should have done something will still have a job and punters are out of pocket..... except those that backed the place getters.

  2. While on the subject of racing on sunday. Can anyone tell me why they only run one meeting at auckland per week.?Ive been following the dogs that have run at auckland recently but it seems many of them take a month to get another start. Its not because of injury as many of them appear on the ballot list.Do they not have enough dogs up there for a lower grade midweek meeting?

  3. When business gets tough then in the "real" world, most businesses would look at their costs, particularly, non-productive costs, but more importantly, a good business would look at how to increase or enhance their service to the existing customers and also, provide as an attractive as possible product to retain existing and new customers. Someone please explain to me how raising the minimum bet to $10 and maintaining unsustainable takeout rates is going to achieve that? The TAB is not providing a competitive nor attractive product - that's where it starts and finishes and all the while, this fiddling at the edges is shades of Nero.

    Opo is not racist!

Straight Strike agrees: Maori are stupid. A wholly stupid race. A bunch of thick dumbarses. Maori are absolute muppets. So stupid they can't even add 2+2. But I'm not racist. I'm showing you all the truth

    Opo is not racist!

How is insinuating that Maori are so thick that they cannot grasp simple math equations "close to the truth"? It's straight up racism and only a racist, lowlife fuckwit hiding behind his keyboard would find it funny.

    Opo is not racist!

Wow! So arrogant and delusional to talk about yourself in the third person. That says it all really.

    Opo is not racist!

Geez, and it's not even remotely funny. Only a racist would post some much anti-Maori propaganda. I would like to know what caused Opo to become so racist towards Maori. Something in his childhood must have set him on his path of bitterness and hatred. It's a bit sad really.

  11. "Clubs" can't talk but board members and staff can, so the answer is yes. And Michael Dore confirmed the same and even went "into the office" Sunday arvo when the proverbial hit the fan just to make sure. By a "quirk" of fate the 3rd umpire in the commentary box Johnny Bright may have had a conversation with the stipe just before box rise confirming the stipe knew the advertised boxes were wrong for the reserves........ Poor old punters...........

  12. One thing the TAB know about is numbers. Good with numbers but hopeless with people outside of their own economic class. That is fairly typical of private school educated suits. Seems madness to me and punitive on your bread and butter customers but the TAB will have done their maths. How much do punters wager with telephone betting against what their wages bill is for telephone operators. If I was an investor in TAB stock I would be selling up and moving my investments elsewhere asap. Almost every move the TAB is making screams out the industry is in steady decline. Is this the fault of small telephone punters? Of course not. It's yet another example of a misguided dog biting the hand that feeds it. Clearly the TAB is attempting to change the way people gamble. For $50 punters they want you to put 5 x $10 bets on with your $50 rather than 10 x $5 bets. If you only bet $20 or less then you can go whistle. The arrogance of that move highlights a loathing and misunderstanding of your own customer base. Gambling can be good but invariably not that good. If I was so brutally devalued and disrespected by an organisation I would say "fark you" and do what the TAB would prefer you did and bet online. Biggest problems with that for our local TAB are as follows. Betting on-line a huge leap for many punters. Having said that if said punters are computer literate enough to open a betting account with the NZ TAB it's only a very small leap to open off shore betting accounts. Unfortunately for the NZ TAB many of those same off shore betting organisations also offer betting on NZ races and more often than not you will get much better value for your money and better service with them. Me thinks this move from the NZ TAB if correct is tantamount to them aiming their Smith and Wesson at their own Metatarsals and emptying it into said anatomy

  13. Fine, but maximising profits from a diminished customer base. Trump is right, the big players go offshore. If you then shutout those at the bottom, there is left a wedge in the middle left to prop it up. Much like our Social Welfare system at the bottom and Retiree,s at the top which as they get bigger have to be propped up by those in the middle. There is a thing called Good Will.and porky alluded to it when he mentioned those that will have be affected . To grow a customer base you have to have return work. That flows on and creates income for the industry, which is the whole point of the exercise Once again Trump was right in calling the NZ Tab a weak betting medium, this will no doubt reinforce that assumption

  14. Geez have I made that many posts on this topic :-( What annoys me about this rumour (I believe it to be rumour has I haven't seen anything official yet) is that it reeks of a knee jerk reaction to what must be some poor results coming on the horizon. They need to protect turnover not cut it by increasing the price of their product (effectively they have doubled the price of a phone bet). Especially when we see no real attempts to lower their fixed costs in fact we are seeing the opposite. They need to remove the key constraints to increasing turnover.

  15. The initial debate was about raising the $5 minimum to $10 - lots of examples there where the profit margin could be the same. On a slightly different tact - in my opinion the TAB have created a rod for their back by creating a plethora of betting options - this has increased variable costs, probably reduced margins and they don't have the tools to properly manage all the pools.

  16. Usually agree with you Reilly but can't here. Rules are rules, just because the TAB stuffs it up and advertises the wrong boxes doesn't mean that the rules get ignored - i.e. the dogs need to start from the boxes as specified by the rules, not the TAB. The TAB may have told you that they acted on incorrect information from the track... but sounds like they're just avoiding responsibility in my opinion. I do, however, agree that this is not good enough from a punter's perspective. Box draws would be one of the most important considerations when deciding which runners to select, and so this being wrong is fundamental. Should it be a no-race? Not sure... how far would you take this... regularly runners from Aussie are listed in formguides with incorrect form or box stats... would you declare these no-racers too because incorrect information was published? How about fastest winning times... these are often wrong too... The answer is that checks and balances should be in place to ensure this doesn't happen. I really have no faith in the TAB after a number of years ago a dog race from Australia was broadcast (Sunday evening from memory) and the field had been redrawn since the runner information was sent through to the TAB. I backed number 5, and number 5 ended up winning, but the dog I thought I was backing actually came out of Box 7... 6 of the 8 dogs in the field as advertised by the TAB started from different boxes, and the other 2 were different dogs altogether! I don't blame the TAB for this having happened, BUT: I fully expected all bets to be refunded... not the case. Paid as passed the post. I emailed Michael Dore at the TAB to ask if losing bets were refunded and he replied telling me to "Go away because he was busy dealing with people who had genuine complaints". Pretty much sums up the arrogance.

  17. hope this is not true... The cook only allows me $50 to punt with a week and 9 times out of ten the bigger I bet the quicker I lose. With the $2 min. bet I can enjoy a day on the punt with an interest in most races. The TAB usually gets my 50 anyway...all this will do is lessen my interest in betting along with thoundands of other armchair punters. WHAT A LUDICROUS CHANGE : whoever the powers that be are driving this...drop it now...it won,t work and neither will you be once the negative financial results and public disgust is realised.

    Body Language

Sometimes you get a feel on the way out with a dog. I have often wondered what it is but sometimes you just know they are going to go a good one even if their form says they are not. I was actually thinking of asking them to put a tote window round at the boxes. Dusty the secret to getting a female to whisper in your ear is to whisper in hers first. I should add here that it depends entirely on the content of your whisper though.
