I was lucky enough to see him win the St George Stakes at Caulfield back in 2004. Magnificent looking horse, very compact. Being black possibly helped. Did he stamp his progeny with that compact look?
R8 Blue Sky At Night was one I have been following since the spring. Was $18 on Wednesday but someones slammed it all the way down to $8.50 this morning.
Also dont mind Imprevu in R1 although interesting to note after Wiremu jumped off her on KM night when running 4th, he said she would be better left-handed and up to 1400m. But shes found herself back at Ellerslie in a 1200m. Perhaps he didnt relay that feedback back to trainer 🙃
Puketiro looks like crazy overs if you consider the way she won last time. The $3.30 fave may have been running 3rd to Hawaii Five Oh last year but its coming off a 10 month spell and looks short of its best distance so may be a hit out.
Might end up being a positive that the rain has been consistently coming down for the last 12 hours or so. Eliminates the excuse of surface moisture from light drizzle. Rail in true position so cant use the excuse of the running on a new part of the track either.
Suspect there may be more eyeballs on Race 1 than the Easter Handicap..
For the sake of the industry I wish them well
Problem there Gruff is, will there be any horses working on the track prior to 11o'clock to get any sort of accurate assessment? I doubt it. They can walk, look and prod all they like but as long as it keeps raining, running a few races is the only way they'll see if it's successful or further disaster.
Big race day , 3 black type races , if there's any issues with the track will they just continue ? OR , abandon and look completely stupid .
I hope the track holds up but it's bloody sad that everyone is sitting wondering what is going to happen , after $55mil has been spent making it state of the art .
Hey Pure Steel …always look at your picks and often take inspiration from them

AUCKLAND
R2 RUSSIAN SATIRE, fitter for trial win, distance idea, more rain is a help.. E/W
R4 WIND OF CHANGE, good second on G4, very capable on S6, nice draw, can win..
RICCARTON
R4 ON SONG, shooting for 3, stepping up, Robert Dennis horse's often underrated, his horses are firing and this one has some x factor.
R5 HELLY BELLY, another Robert Dennis runner, goes super 2nd up, can step up to this company. Good at jump outs in South before first up run.
R7 TURF WAR, stiff when 6th , with no rain today he step up to 1600m really suits.. E/W
