For me this is a classic case of forgetting who came 2nd or 3rd in some key races. If I had been asked, prior to their announcement, who Hilal was I would not have been able to answer the question.
This video on the GW site gives a summary of Hilal's important races..

Your business premise is sound but how many chances do they get . They have been going backwards for decades whilst TB's and even the Hounds have literally lapped them in terms of all important turnover/profits . How long will/should HRNZ continue to subsidise them at the expense of other profitable clubs?
The thread refers to a 'promising horse'. A second and a win from two races doesn't neccessarily suggest anything more than promising. $1m in the hand speaks volumes.
Keeneland welcomed new sponsors of two stakes that will be run during the Spring Meet: Resolute Racing, which is sponsoring the $600,000 Madison (G1) April 6, and MiddleGround Capital, which is sponsoring the $400,000 Beaumont (G2) April 7. View the full article

Godolphin's homebred Knightsbridge made a dazzling return March 28 at Gulfstream Park, scoring a nine-length victory in his first start since capturing his debut last fall at Churchill Downs. The Pat Day Mile (G2) could be next for the colt.View the full article

This appears to be a photo of the stand in use during the construction *1943* (the old wooden stand it replaced was destroyed by a cyclone)
I'd imagine under today's Health and Safety regime, no patrons would be allowed within 5kms and there would be barriers and 30,000 cones in the picture. But that was in an age that common sense was still allowed.....
The demolition will be with a touch of sadness for me, having attended nearly every meeting of my '15 to 20 year old years' at the Park with mates on this stand, lot's of great memories..........
Alexandra Park loses the last part of it's soul, leaving only an oversized ugly duckling to accommodate it's diminishing pool of attendees .... 😔

Thanks John and Scooby.
Go well Team Horlicks - hopefully we have another solid outing to keep us above the cut line 🏇 👍
Best of luck John and Team Veandercross.
And of course, happy punting all - it looks like a great day of racing ahead.
Cascadian a real favourite of mine but was expecting longer odds than $7.50. Obviously a lot of confidence around.
He's looking as bright as ever this time in and this race does look ideal so hoping for the win to take him over the $10m earnings mark. Then the TAB comments might rate him more than 'handy' 🙄
