English Rose, who is a sister to Group 1 winner Sofia Rosa, landed her second career victory yesterday when taking out the Sunrans Spa Handicap (2100m) at Otaki in the hands of apprentice jockey Chelsea Burdan.
The filly beat The Great Guru by three-quarters of a length with another length and three-quarters back to All In Stitches in third.
“It was a tough effort by the mare and a good ride by Chelsea,” Te Akau principal David Ellis said.
“She’s a young lady that will go to the next level. She’s working hard, looks good on a horse, determined to do well, and she will get a lot more opportunities.
“We’ve got terrific staff around us. From the breaking in process here at the stud to being educated by world-class track work riders, it all helps in getting these wonderful results.”
