DARSCAPE PRINCESS LIKELY IMPROVER AT HAWERA

By Phillip Quay

Don’t be surprised if regally-bred Darscape Princess, pictured, runs a bold race in the Gr. 3 $80,000 Rich Hill Stud Taranaki Breeders’ Stakes (1400m) at Hawera on Saturday.

She was one of the big improvers in the Central Districts ranks last season.

She kicked off in rating 65 grade last November but won four of her seven started headed by victory in the Listed Wairarapa Breeders’ Stakes on Waitangi Day. She then ran a brave second behind Saint Emilion in the Gr. 1 New Zealand Stakes at Ellerslie in March.

Darscape Princess has had two trails this time round and won the most recent of these at Foxton last week.

Raced by her breeder John Bromley, Darscape Princess in a half-sister to stablemate and Group 2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1400m) winner Sensible Princess, with the pair trained by Fraser Auret at Marton.

Her rider at Hawera will be Jonathan Parkes.
