CHARLES ROAD ON VERGE OF CUP RUN

CHARLES ROAD ON VERGE OF CUP RUN

Lance O’Sullivan’s Charles Road is one defection away from gaining a start in next Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup.

He is 25th  in the line of entry, one behind Murray Baker’s Zacada

A total of 47 remain in the race for the 24 places.

Fifteen are internationally-trained gallopers including Caulfield Cup  winner Best Solution, Melbourne Cup favourite Yucatan Ire and his Aidan O’Brien-trained stablemate The Cliffsofmoher and Magic Circle.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Thinkin’ Big remains the only Australian three-year-old still in the race  and victory in Saturday’s Victoria Derby   would ensure his place in the field.

Withdrawals from the Melbourne Cup at the second acceptance stage include Darren Weir’s Humidor and Kings Will Dream and Caulfield Cup runnerup Homesman..
