British import Buffalo River will face his toughest Australian assignment to date when he lines up in the $A135,000 Silver Bowl Series Final (1600m) for three-year-olds at Flemington on Saturday.
The improving gelding has won both of his southern-hemisphere starts at Ballarat and Sandown-Lakeside and he will shoulder topweight of 60 kilograms as he bids to complete the hat-trick, with this run potentially paving the way for a spring campaign that could include the inaugural $7.5 million Golden Eagle (1500m) in Sydney.
“This race on Saturday is going to tell us a bit. He’s still a baby and still only three. Really, in another six months’ time he’ll have caught up (in maturity) whereas now he’s a little bit behind the eight ball,” trainer Mike Moroney said.
