BALLARAT CEO DEFENDS SYNTHETIC TRACK

Ballarat Turf Club chief executive Lachlan McKenzie has defended the performance of the club’s new synthetic racecourse, which began racing last month, but admitted the organisation was working to improve the surface.

“Obviously the firmer the track is, the less kick-back but then the tracks can get too hard for training and for racing and so we need to find that happy balance and medium between having it with enough give in so it’s suitable for racing and training and also trying to minimise as much kick-back as possible,” McKenzie said.

The synthetic track has already hosted six meetings and barrier trials were also conducted on the surface yesterday.
