Aristia (pictured) is now favourite for the Group 1 Kennedy Victoria Oaks (2500m) following her tough win in Saturday’s Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.

The Oaks market has had a massive reshuffle over the past week. The announcement of Amphitrite heading to the Empire Rose over the mile saw her drift and now former Oaks favourite Verry Elleegant has done likewise after having a tough run, three wide no cover before finishing fifth but trainer Darren Weir has confirmed the intention to press on.

Aristia, who was a maiden heading into the Group 2 feature, had been consistent without dominating the three-year-old fillies’ ranks and her gutsy win brought a sense of relief for winning jockey Damian Lane.

“I’ve had a quiet couple of Saturdays so it is good to bounce back with a winner,” Lane said.

“It’s a big thrill to ride a winner for Matty (Ellerton) and Simon (Zahra) on Derby Day, too. I work closely with the team and it’s a big thrill for me.”
