Azuro, winner of Saturday’s Stayer’s Cup (3200m) at Rosehill, will be given another chance to win over the Melbourne Cup distance this preparation by trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace.
Assistant Annabel Neasham said Azuro would now head north for the Listed Queensland Cup (3200m) at Eagle Farm on July 20 after proving the toughest stayer at Rosehill on Saturday and will be given the chance to add to his record at the distance.
“You don’t get many opportunities to run over two miles and he ran it strongly,” Neasham said.
“He was very tough and he sustained it all the way to the line. The Melbourne Cup is a long way off but any horse who run two miles; you’ve go to think about it.”
